TOPIC: Verde & Slack @ The Red Rose 6-07-03
Posted  Thursday, June 5, 2003 at 9:27 AM
Post 1 of 106
This Saturday is the Slack/Verde show at the Red Rose. Since I really enjoy Verde, I have been looking forward to this long overdue 18+ show . I have also been wanting to see Slack since Carl has mentioned them quite a few times. Unfortunately, I did not make the connection between this show and the De Novo Dahl show in Memphis for the same night, which I AM going to attend. I guess I'll just have to wait a few days to see Verde again. Anyway, I was just wondering who all is going to the Red Rose on Saturday.

There's a cool thing going on at the Verde/Slack show, but I'll let Carl tell you since he told me.

It's not a secret, Carl. Slack and Verde made a split EP on cassette of all cover songs. I think it is going to be $3 and all proceeds go towards beer and fireworks. I think the show is only going to be $3 too, but I can't promise that.

I'm not looking forward to my obligatory speeding ticket when travelling through Rutherford County.
I TOTALLY AGREE!

If it's not a secret, then why don't you put it on your stinkin' website?

Is it a secret that Slack is covering a Verde song and vice versa?

Like I said last night at the Dressy Bessy show, I think I've been spoiled by Verde. DB just didn't add up to what I can get here locally. But, unfortunately I'll be in Memphis, too. RD, if you want to go to his thing SSSOOO bad, just stay here. More Memphis ladies for me. You're no competition, anyways. I think Slack is the best at the Red Rose and of course, Verde is the best anywhere, so this is going to be a great show.

don't forget door prizes, a VERY special giveaway, and the fireworks display following the show.. nineteen forty-five is a great band from birmingham that's playing also. check out the pix from the "tape dubbing party" at carligula.com. we really know how to mass produce.

Ahem, too bad somebody can't seem to undo the staples on their lips. Couldn't even get the gumption to speak with the babely afro chick... dry.gif . Anyway, there should be more than a lion's share of booty at the show in Memphis. I mean, it's a deli. Hot chicks go to deli's. They have to stay fit and go to posh places, y'know? But, in reality, it's not me that you have to worry about. You'll have to keep your eyes on Mitch. He's a sly one.

Given the atmosphere, I'm always up for some african-american babes. Plus, I should adapt well to Memphis. We both like it dirrty.

i must say that verde most assuredly could kick that bessy girl's butt any day of the week. i also must say that i am quite bummed that i will not be able to attend this wonderful show. i have to go keep score between fold's fan and dawson to see who gets the most digits. folds might have an advantage, but only because he gets to be a rock n roll drummer that night.

by the way, remember safety first when dealing with fireworks

I liked Dressy Bessy, but I didn't love them. The singer is super cool. She can't sing, but she looks awesome on stage and she is a very nice lady. I thought the band rocked, they just need to have choruses and bridges and stuff in their songs.

Then prepare to get your ass kicked by me on the apeman's tally sheet. Honestly though, it should be based on a points system in which more attractive girls are worth more points to myself or foldsfan. These girls should be judged on many qualities, all of which will be discussed and concluded on the way to Memphis.

By the way, that girl's lips were very nice. Damn...

after much thought (not really) i have decided to go to the slack/verde show for two reasons. 1. the melt banana show is $10 fucking dollars. 2. candice's band is opening. she sucks and her band sucks.

first of all fold's, don't blame me for the cat that got your tongue. my wife was asleep so i wasn't in any hurry. i think dawson and i saw you quaking in your boots. and by the way sharing one's feelings usually involves speaking. and oh yeah meaningful relationships involve more than gawking at them from across the club with drool dripping from your cake hole. i can give you a couple icebreaker tips this weekend so you never have to go home wondering "what if" again

I used to watch Sifl and Olly everynite when it came on about 4 years ago. I have one episode taped and I downloaded one off of Kazaa.

I think the guy who did Sifl and Olly is responsible for the new Fandango ad I saw right before Finding Nemo. It features paper bag puppets and the same style of writing and even the same voice as Sifl and Olly. Overall, I'd rather see it everytime I go to the movies than that idiotic pudgy redhead...ugh I hate that ad...

When Sifl and Olly came on, I watched it in the summer between seventh and eigth grade. I've downloaded a lot from Kazaa, but I'm getting the whole first and second season in the next couple of days. I'm excited.

And Matt Crocco did Sifl and Olly, too. Matt was Sifl and Liam was Olly. United States of Whatever came from Sifl and Olly. It was an Almost the End of the Show song.

I knew who quite a few of the board members were before I was introduced. Some because I had seen them in a picture or knew what they were wearing (Nicole, Carl, etc.) and some you could just tell (Brett, Sina, etc.). I'm pretty sure its usually fairly obvious who I am because of my age.

When I was introduced to the board members I met, they all knew who I was before I knew them.
Man, I'm going incognito to the next show...I'm too easy to spot...

This also brings up my hope that there is some sort of show on Halloween...
Ha, good idea. I can't belive you didnt add a ninja smiley to that. Note: incognito is one of my top ten favorite words

A Halloween show would be the that one (did I just say that?). I am so excited about Halloween already.. mine sucked pretty hard last year. I think I might be Miss Scarlett O'Hara.. hoop dress, green contacts and all.

I'm sure that it's a sad fact, but I have been pondering this year's costume for a little while now. I have to do better than last year's Charles Nelson Reilly and my all time best of Nightcrawler. I would like to do something as a group...ah geez I'm just racking my brain and the keyboard, I'm going to stop...

I want to be "Transformer"-era Lou Reed, but not necessarily for Halloween, just for no particular reason. Sideponytails has already agreed to help me do this sometime (preferably when I'm drunk so I can use "being drunk" as an excuse for wearing white and black face paint). It would be cool.

Spongebath (or more specifically, Self) used to do a Halloween show every year at Main Street in Murfreesboro. Those were fun, because all of the bands dressed up. One year, the Katies were ZZ Top, Self were pro wrestlers, and the Features were supposed to be dead musicians, but alas, they were not. I know Matt was going to be Buddy Holly and Parrish was going to be Liberace, but I forgot who Roger and Rollum were going to be.

I hadn't heard that story, JC. I figured they were supposed to dress up. Brian Carter did a very nice intro for them. I have tried and tried to see if someone (anyone) recorded that set, but it has still turned up nada. All I have from the show are pictures and memories.

It would be neat if the Features did another Halloween show this year (w/DND and Verde). Verde could dress up like the cast of the Wizard of Oz.

It's funny you should mention that, YDDD, because Verde was involved in a Halloween show this past year, and their "costume" was one of the most relevant ever. They dressed up as Margot, Chas, and Richie Tennenbaum. It was brilliant. Keith, post the photo, please.

I'm not sure who De Novo Dahl should be for Halloween. I'll have to think about that.

That was 100% my idea. If anyone wants to see the pics, they're under the "stuff to read" section on my website. It's called "Halloween Costume Contest".

It was merely my cleverly disguised way of getting Andrea to wear that really hott one-piece dress that Margot wore. Unfortunately, she left that darn fur coat on all night. Curses!

Brian's full-on beard was rulin', too, but the chump had to go shave it the next day.

DND could be the cast of Married With Children.

Bud = Mark

Al = Joel

That's a good idea, Richard. But I think that it would be pretty difficult to identify who they were dressing up as.

What about the cast of Scooby Doo?

Joey - Shaggy
Serai - Daphne
Joel - Fred
Mark - Velma
Dave - Scooby
Derek - ??a monster or villain??

I had so much fun at the show the other night, even if I missed quite a bit. I think I was having too much fun, b/c I was the blushing slightly drunk girl who knocked over a beer bottle and broke it when there was dead silence in between songs. Everyone pointed at me and yelled and I was embarrassed...yeah, that was me! Other than that I had so much fun that night. For the record though....I didn't see any fireworks?
