TOPIC: weezer to play with the strokes...
Posted  Saturday, May 25, 2002 at 6:33 PM
Post 1 of 94
weezer will be playing 5 shows with the strokes during their summer tour. it should be really interesting, especially since they will be playing across the sea as part of their set this time (my favorite weezer song).

if ray davies is out there, he'd better go to one of these shows to make up for last time. don't mind the preteen emo kids, they won't hurt anyone.
We'll miss you Mr. Hooper.

weezer is coming to nashville again at the end of july, but with crapboard (oops, i mean dashboard) confessional. too bad their stint with the strokes isn't stopping here; i'd consider going. the venue is t.b.a. and i believe the show is july 30.

smee's most hated band of the moment : dashboard confessional. what a whiny fucker.

I can't get into dashboard confessional that much either. My bestfriend just LOVES dashboard confessional, but eh. I guess it's just not for me.

And, I must say that the strokes playing with weezer anywhere even relatively close will probably convince me to buy a ticket and make a drive.

seriously, saves the day is so terrible.  soooo terrible.
i like dashboard allright; i like to listen to him when i myself am feeling whiny and pathetic.  but sometimes, its even too whiny pathetic for me.

anyway, accross the sea was added to their setlist?!  how did you get this information? this excites me greatly.

im going to chicago on july 11th (my birthday!) to see weezer. this is radd. oh so radd. all the same, i'll be in nashville on july 30th.

weezer's website (www.weezer.net) is loaded with info; i assume that's where he found it.  if tired of sex and across the sea got in a fight, tired of sex would win.

I took Archery. it's not that bad. it's supposed to be a 90 minute class, but we just got out after only 40 minutes. Did you hear about David Bowie doing a live by request concert for A&E on the 15th or 16th of June? It should be excellent. How's your summer?

Ray~

My summer is pretty much shit. I work and go hang out with my friends. I really miss being able to go see bands play all the time. Stupid WV.

No, I didn't know that bowie was doing a request thing. That should be great. I would get him to play ziggy over and over. He was on tv a few nights ago for something. I think the song he played was new- something about being afraid of americans. It wasn't bad.

Are you working at goodwill? I remember you said that you might? I was just wondering. If so, I hope you don't come back to school smelling like it.

Damon (the ess-dog or shawn if you wish)

p.s. i got leave it all behind...

'I'm Afraid of Americans' was a single from Bowie's 1997 album, Earthling.  Trent Reznor was in the (quite scary) video for that song.
Relevant: Prince, PT Anderson, Punk, Post-Punk, Purple, Party of Five, Peter Swanson, Peter Gabriel-led Genesis, "Peter Panic", Paul's Boutique, Potential Energy, Every Features MB member but me.

that would explain why i'd never heard it before. can't say that i've listened to any newer bowie... except little wonder... God that song sucked!

well spoken good sir...

my current dilemna is that Will is going back to school in lexington today (summer school- that bastard) and he wants to go with us. Unfortunately, he can only make the Columbus show. Asim, on the other hand, can only make the Cleveland show, as his family is leaving for vacation on the day of the Columbus show... Needless to say, I'm caught in a bit of an intergroup conflict. It sort of sucks. I can't leave either of them behind, so I might end up leaving both of them... better to have both mad at me I guess.

indeed we shall. i'm thinking that the lads from first floor need to go out on the piss when we get back... ENJOY THE SHOW!

Well, I guess you'll just have to go to both shows. That way you can make both of them happy, and enjoy two very awesome shows at the same time.

I'm going to try to get the closest seats possible. I mean they're only $26.50. That's really cheap for such an awesome show. However, I am confused as to who the supporting acts are. Is it just weezer and the strokes? or is it Weezer, the strokes, dashboard confessional, and sparta (formerly known as the two best members of at the drive in)? Which lineup should I expect? I hope it's just Weezer and the strokes. That way I dont have to sit through fucking dashbord.

i wouldn't mind going to both, but i doubt i would have time. i think i'll end up going to cleveland, because i want to stop at a pub before the show. flannery's is a great place to eat, despite the fact that they seem to confuse english and irish folk music. that much i can forgive.

I actually caught most of it. They did a behind the scenes of Space Ghost afterwards and I was disappointed to find out that all (or at least most) of the guests' dialogue is written for them. The interviews are totally scripted. Maybe I'm an idiot for not knowing that in the first place, but it is extremely rare that I watch that show.

yeah, i'm going to cleveland. the plan is to head out early that morning and get there in time to eat lunch at a great irish pub called flannery's. after that we'll probably just walk around for a while. if nothing else, we could always go to the rock and roll hall of fame again (althought nothing can beat the john lennon exhibit they had up last summer). by the time the concert goes down, i'll be ready for some strokes and weezer. dashboard can piss off.

I cant wait to see Dashboard, i will relish every moment I get to point and laugh(and possibly throw things) at the crying emo kids. It pisses me off that theres a movement in music where shitty songwriters become semi-famous because mindless depressed teens can identify with the scrawny dork. Well... we were all scrawny dorks (at least i was(/am)) and I dont remember crying about it. I guess i dont mind if these trendy kids pool their collective sorrow together as long as it doesnt get in the way of say... me enjoying a badass Strokes/Weezer show. "emo". it pisses me off; its so cool to be skinny and depressed and have black framed glasses. (but i still dig the glasses tongue.gif ) indie is hardly even indie anymore, and im (and most of you are) being classified as one of these kids, becasue they don't know what else to call us. it reminds me of when fuckihg nirvana was popular and us kids listened to the "alternative to thje mainstream" bc we hate pop and and wanted to cut ourselves. then it was so cool to be "different" the different kids got pissed off. then it just eventually took over, and spawned things like puddle of mudd.
now the whole things happening again and its so cool to cry and listen to bright eyes.
i mean, boo fuckin hoo chris carrabba got cheated on, its no reason to call up carson daly and start a fucking revolution.

I'm inclined to agree. I'd even settle for El Scorcho after the travesty that was my experience seeing Weezer at the United Center in Chicago. AmSouth should be a bit better, because while I fully expect to be surrounded by high schoolers and youngers with their parents, as well as all the "cool" kids in their SUVs with their backwards visors, I won't be smashed up against them in too-small seats. And it seems that lately they've been playing less Green, more Blue and Mal and some Pinkerton too (at the UC it was all Green, plus Buddy Holly, Jonas, and The Sweater song- they didn't close with Only in Dreams and I was pissed as Hell).

And The Strokes should just kick ass.

I will be attending the Weezer/Strokes concert on the 30th and after seeing the setlist, I'm quite excited. My favorite Maladroit songs are "Burndt Jamb" and "December" and I'm glad to see Pinkerton well-represented. There was hysteria within my group of friends when they played The Good Life back in February.

And hopefully my avatar is on...if it is, it's a picture of Charles Nelson Reilly (one of my heroes, i am obsessed with the Game Show Network). If not, then you should be looking at a tiny red X.

i'm quite chuffed that they're playing falling for you, as it is one of my favourites off of pinkerton. pink triangle would be quite a pleasant surprise, as would across the sea. i too was at the show in february, and i was surprised to hear so many people begging for el scorcho. i'm sure they could think of better songs off of pinkerton if they thought for a second or two...
We'll miss you Mr. Hooper.

I notice that among most of the Weezer fans I know, they all prefer to hear the older songs in concert, and seem to care less about the newer stuff.

it's true. personally, i really like the new stuff, but i'd be lying if i said i enjoyed it more than the first two albums. there are bright spots.

WOW~

i just downloaded one of their new demos called hey domingo from weezer.com, and it's shockingly different from anything i've ever heard them do. i look forward to the rest that i'm downloading.

At the concert in Februrary, Keep Fishin' was about the 4th song they played and by that time the mass of people were all in sync with each other with the head bobbing and singing. Then they played Keep Fishin' (which I have loved for over a year) and I swear I was one of the few who was really into Keep Fishin'. It's a good song and now that I've seen the BRILLIANT new video, it's even more beloved by me.

Muppets and Weezer. It's like mixing chocolate and peanut butter.

i heard that the hives are going to be playing this show. is that true?

yes, older weezer stuff, in my opinion is better than newer stuff. pinkerton is one of the best records of all time in my estimation, as for my love of el scorcho, its an unexplainable thing, but it just rules me. if i hear falling for you though, i'll be one happy bird either way.

and i want to marry the new video. ph34r.gif

for those of you going to the nashville show: have any of you heard anything about the "weezerfest" that is supposed to be held at pinkerton park in nashville before the concert? i read somehting about it in a karl's corner a few weeks ago and wondered if any of you had heard anything more about it or were going to be there.

Not meant to be picky but, isn't Pinkerton Park in Franklin? That's very funny, the whole Pinkerton thing, I've never made the relation before.

If this Weezerfest thing is real, I have to go. Pinkerton Park is literally 1/8 of a mile from the house where I grew up, and lived a good 12 years of my life... I used to walk there everyday.

Sorry, I havent been on in so long. I was on vacation. damon, today is your day to experience one of the greatest concerts ever, I expect to get a full report of how the show went. If the Strokes play any new material, you must tell me. have a good time.

Oh, and by the way, while I was on vacation, I found an oasis pin, and I bought it for you. i hope you like it.

Um...not to be nosy or anything but um what would the pin look like? Oasis pins are just rare and I'm just curious. The two I have I only bust out for special occasions.

thanks jason/ray! that was very nice of you, considering my love of oasis. the no strokes thing really bummed me out at the show. add that to having to listen to dashboard and sparta, as well as the lack of muppets on stage, and it was a little disappointing. overall, i think i prefer weezer inside, rather than in an open venue like blossom music center.

well...

rivers seems to be over his issues with pinkerton, as they played 6 or 7 songs from it. off the top of my head: falling for you, pink triangle (only the second time in about 7 years), getchoo, el scorcho, and no other one. there were others, but they slip my mind at the moment. the also played all the usuals from the blue album, while avoiding the green for the most part (island in the sun is the only one i recall...).

my biggest objection was that they only played 4 from the new album, all of which i heard them play last time in nashville. i was looking forward to possibly hearing slob, slave, and december, but alas, it was not to be.

Well, damon, it sounds like you had an "okay" time. I'm glad to hear that rivers has added more Pinkerton songs. I am getting pumped about the show. I'm glad you're happy about the pin. it's a black pin with your standard oasis logo. (the original logo, unfortunately, and not the one that my friend damon likes, but I'm sure he'll like it all the same.)

I have two, the black pin with the original logo (got that at The Rhythm Section in Gatlinburg, HaveSomeSoma can give me an "amen" on that) and I have another one with Noel, Liam, Bonehead & half of Guigsy on it with a purple rectangle and OASIS written in yellow. My friend bought it for me when she went to London, so it's a prize.

I do enjoy the new logo and would like to acquire some merch with it on it. I'm always on the look out for a new sticker for mi coche.

I went crazy when I saw them in indianapolis. Not only did I get Andy Bell & Gem's autograph, I have videotape of all of them getting off the bus and waving and whatnot (except Noel, Andy was about a foot in front of me the whole time so he blocked Noel). I left just before Noel and Liam came out and signed stuff too....oh well....

But anyway, I got two t-shirts, the program, a jacket (that cost $60 and was too small...I took the oasis logo and sewed it on a toboggan) and a metal keychain (another well-spent 10 dollars).

I also managed to find the Stand By Me, D'You Know What I Mean, Some Might Say, and Don't Look Back In Anger singles while there. It was a beautiful experience.

Well, Ooltewah High School after this horrid relocation to Chattanooga. But my freshman year, as you'd probably guess from the proximilty to Pinkerton Park, was Centennial High School, in its first year of existence.
