I don't consider myself "into" music anymore. I, in fact, have been listening to the same CDs for way too long.....and I'm perfectly content.

But, just to add to the thread,
the Features and Fluid Ounces (anything and everything)
the Beatles (Help! and up)
R.E.M. (anything)
the Minutemen (Double Nickels on the Dime)
Flaming Lips (Soft Bulletin and Yoshimi)
I can't grow a beard, and I don't like to party.

I just re-did my Car CDs and I had to take out The La's since it was starting to dominate (hey, at least my method is working). I'm still learning about the wide world of Talking Heads' albums, but so far the class is very entertaining.

you should definitely get "remain in light", "fear of music", and "more songs about buildings and food". however, my personal favorite is "talking heads 77". basically, everyone needs a little talking heads in their collection.

Sorry. That didn't come out right.

Not long ago, I'd have had a list very long of the things I'd been listening to, and it would've been markedly different from the time I'd made a list before.

All I meantersay is that it's not like that anymore, and I've been listening to the same 10 CDs now for months and months and months. Please don't take it as elitism, it's just a report.

White Blood Cells is, of course, really good but if you don't own De Stijl yet, get it soon. Maybe I'm just a sucker for the blues-groove that the Whites were in on that album, it's really good. Their cover of "Your Southern Can Is Mine" is awesome....must....listen...to it....soon...can't keep up with this...."new" music system....

Its funny, I used to wonder what the big deal was with The Stripes. I really didn't get into Fell in Love with a Girl. But before the attic show they played the whole album and I really dug it and when Fell in Love with a Girl came on I was like "oh, THIS is what the big deal was."

Great stuff. I intend to get it all.

you also like solo peter gabriel? wow, i just might have found a kindred spirit. the third peter gabriel album is perfect. it's a true masterpiece.

The only song by Pavement that I know is "Cut Your Hair" and that's only because it was on the Very Brady Sequel soundtrack (my 2nd fave movie of all time). Any suggestions for downloading?

And as for Peter Gabriel, he did have some cool hair in the 80s before he freakin went all new age and chopped it all off. "In Your Eyes" and "Sledgehammer" were good, but who could not agree with me that "Steam" and "Big Time" freakin' rock! "Steam"....it just makes me chuckle to think of Peter Gabriel in a rollickin' spa with supermodels falling all over him...lol...

well when it comes to pavement just about any song is good

however, he's a nice selection of songs to choose from:

1. Spit on a stranger
2. We Dance
3. Rattled by the rush
4. Shady Lane
5. Cut your hair
6. Range Life
7. Stereo
8. Grounded
9. Serpentine Pad
10. Gold Soundz
11. Major Leagues
12. Embassy Row
13. Shoot the singer
14. Summer Babe

I would make a mix tape of these songs in this order to give my friends as an introduction to pavement. It always gets the job done. they always come back screaming for more.

Excellent mix, Ray! I'm keeping track of this list for making mix tapes of my own...

However, I'll throw in "Starlings of the Slipstream" and "Carrot Rope."

And "Unseen Power of the Picket Fence" and "Harness Your Hopes."

And for good measure, "Jenny and the Ess Dog" by Malkmus.

Yeah. Those 19 songs are it...

I like them. I can't really put my finger on it though. It may have to do with my status as an ex-stoner and my adoration of The Screaming Trees and Failure.
I am a horse with no name.
