Posted  Sunday, March 30, 2003 at 3:08 PM
Post 1 of 19
Monday night at 9:30, the Belcourt and GRIMEY are hosting a listening party for the White Stripes new "Elephant" album and a viewing of the Wilco documentary. After the show, the Elephant album and the Wilco DVD will be for sale. After we eat at Meditteranean Cuisine (mmm...shawarma pocket), Brother Love, PFMO, and I will be going to the Belcourt with some special friends. Will you be there? I do know one thing, GRIMEY will be there (if you got the e-mail, then you know what I'm talking about).

no. they lock the doors behind you. and there will be a pack of hungry dogs waiting below each window, so i wouldn't try that either.

I meant to see that when they showed it last year at the Belcourt, but never had the time. I am really looking forward to this event.

I wanted to go, but school-related events will prevent me from doing so.
But what will happen to the boy when the circus comes to town?

Just to let everybody know, "maybe" in Ray Davies-lingo translates to "no" in the regular English language. But, anyway, I have to meet with some fellow classmates at 6:00, so I guess everybody will be there but me. sad.gif

Yeah, he tends to whore the word "maybe." He uses it in many occasions but never actually goes from "maybe" to "yes, i will." Silly boy.

Hmm... I originally thought that I would go when I first heard about this. Now I think that I don't want to drive all that way. Yeah, I'm lazy and too cheap to spend the gas money. I will probably buy the DVD from Best Buy on Tuesday instead.

Sorry to anyone who was counting on me for a ride. unsure.gif

wish i could make this. "iattbyh" is a very good movie (if you are a wilco fan). i think my favorite part is the interview with david fricke (sp?). that man has the best teeth in rock journalism. the new white stripes is very good as well. i never really got into the other ones, but i gues i finally get it. s
You know you have problems, with both money and alcohol, when you find yourself shoving beers down your pants outside a Features show.

I too couldn't take my eyes off of the man's teeth during the whole interview. I found it surreal and unsettling.

That dude's teeth were surreal and unsettling, Wiyum. His voice, too.

Yeah, LW, I think why you "get" the White Stripes now is because they have bass on their record, like every decent band should.

actually, now i am convinced they do not have bass on their new album and that i was decieved upon first listen. i've read some reviews that say "yes, there is bass" and some that say "no, there's no bass, it's just a guitar effect". the more credible sources tend to state the latter.

so, those of you who got "elephant," what do you think?

i like it alot. i've only listened to it about four times, and that's not enough for me to form an in depth opinion. so i'll keep mostly quiet for now. but so far my favorite tracks are "seven nation army" and "there's no home for you here."

I believe the "guitar as bass" thing also because there is no bass credit on the album. The album is great and surpasses "White Blood Cells." The album just sounds so good. I guess it's because of the guitar/bass and the wall of guitars used on some tracks. The fact that it was recorded on equipment older than what the Beatles used is amazing.

So far my picks would have to be "Black Math," "The Hardest Button to Button," "LIttle Acorns," "Hypnotize," and "Well It's True That We Love One Another." Actually all the songs are very, very good. I really hope that all that talk about this being the Stripes' last album was just Jack saying weird things. They are too great to stop making music. But if this is the last album, then it is a fitting closer and they have left behind an awesome body of music.

And a darn good video about legos.
