Just a little topic idea (keep in mind that I am new to this board and this is probably a tired one). For years there has been talk about the Murfreesboro (let's include Nashville in this one) music scene being "on the brink" of being hugely successful. When I packed up my car and moved to the boro (already a field rep for the hit or miss Spongebath records) in 1998, it just seemed like it would explode. In my hanging of fliers and receiving of free discs from the label, I gradually discerned that Self was the only band (at the time) who was even in striking distance. The Fluid Ounces were a great live band, but it didn't seem to translate into "hit songs" on record. The Katies were getting signed to a big label and putting out a record, but I just didn't think they had what it took to have one big hit, much less any staying power. That's when I also learned that being on a big label was no thermometer to measure your success by. Just because some 50 year old A&R guy likes you doesn't mean that the 13-21 year-old music-buying public will. The Features are better now than any of those bands were at the time and are probably our best shot at someone breaking big (and actually being good...imagine that)..., but there are a bunch of other bands around here. I am in a band around here so I will refrain from making a list that includes my own band or excludes my own band, so I will leave it up to the educated masses: who are the area's top 5 (or more) best shots at making Murfreesville larger than a spec on the musical map?
