These are the actors rumored to be up for the role. Who do you think would be best suited to don the top hat?

i cannot explain how excited i am at the prospect that chris walken will be in the remake of one of my favorite movies. i heard this one was supposed to be even more true to the book, which interests me. who should play grandpa, charlie, and slugsworth, and the other golden ticket winners? heres hoping that unknown great child actors [a bit of an oxy moron] will be the kids, including charlie. if its that kid from spy kids i wont go.

Out of that list, definitely Walken. There may be someone better out there that I'm just not thinking of, though.

I didn't know that they were remaking this movie. Personally, I feel that a remake of this movie would be a huge waste of time and money. I don't think the original could ever be topped. Period. I'm sure the Oompa Loompas and everything else will be computer animated and look really stupid. But even if they got all of the technical aspects right, I think that they would have a hard time recreating that intangible charm that the original had.

So who is directing this?

i think johnny depp would make an interesting willy wonka. christopher walken would make a nice slugworth. walken would do well as wonka as well. i think after pirates of the carribean i just want to see depp in another funny role.

1) Welcome to the board, Mr. Scott! We're still angry that you couldn't get the Features on your soundtrack.

2) I voted "other". While I really dig Chris Walken, my vote goes to Marilyn Manson.

3) I don't appreciate being called a "ho".

I really do think that Johnny would play a better Willy Wonka than Chris Walken. Although I also love Chris Walken, I think he would, as Damon said, make a better Slugsworth. I would tend to agree with Jamiecarroll on this, but since Tim Burton's directing it, I will probably love it. I think Johnny's eccentricity would be great for the role. It will never be as beautiful as the original, either way, of course. But, yeah, I say Johnny all the way.

I'm glad it's not going to be some bad TV movie version. If it was, I'm sure they would cast Martin Short, and it would be terrible. Although Martin Short is hilarious at times, I can do without his TV children's movies...like Alice in Wonderland...what a waste of film.

i thought of this originally too, however, walken is a great singer and dancer, which would almost overqualify him for this role, if it were to be a musical. sadly, i heard that the remake is not supposed to be a musical, therefore, i cant decide. if it was a musical, i think walken or kevin spacey would be great.

johnny depp should definitely be the candy store clerk. or just stand around and look pretty.

i completely agree with jamiecarroll that this could be a disasterous move. i trust tim burton a lot though. cg oompa loompas would be a tragedy. he better get some fuckin midgets.

wacko.gif i agree. that was awful. the best alice in wonderland is the one from 1985, and the second part, Through the Looking Glass. Yeah, no wonder he quit show business. His career in the 1990s featured such highlights as "Beethoven," "Beethoven's 2nd" and "Clifford." Poor dude. And "Clifford" is just a creepy concept. Who thought that movie up?

To be somewhat on topic, I've never even seen the original "Willy Wonka" all the way through. I never cared much for it. I was too busy with Ninja Turtles, GI Joe and the Neverending Story growing up.

You are one of the few people that I've talked to who remembers the best version of Alice in Wonderland. I watched it all the time, which really annoyed my family because it's like fifty-eight hours long. I taped it off TV when it first came on and still have the copy with "ALICE" written on the label in my three-ish year old handwriting. And, yes, if I remember correctly John Stamos was one of the men in the traincar.

I remember the Pods at Howard. That's random. I remember them showing the Neverending Story and Willow, both of which I hated at the time. My lobbies to watch episodes of the Dukes of Hazzard and Superman cartoons alway failed. I do remember getting to watch the Pee Wee movies, as well as some old Halloween movie from the 60's with Dracula, the Mummy, Frankenstein, a werewolf, and some other Halloween characters. That particular Pod movie-watching experience kicked ass. I wish I knew which Halloween movie that was.

i have heard that the willy wonka movie was in the works for 6 years now, so i hope it really is happening. after all, the band i am in was named after its author. whoever said kevin spacey would make a good willy wonka is insane. depp would do well. maybe bruce willis. staying true to the book would be a good idea since the other film was a great "adaptation" of the book. burton is the man for the job. if ever there was a director equivalent of dahl, it would be burton. i mean - he already covered james and the giant peach. and edward scissor hands is like a long lost dahl story. ole jack "the joker" nicholson would make a pretty good willy. i just watched batman for the millionth time. oh yeah, i almost forgot - the 85' version of alice in wonderland was very good. i seem to remember a brittish version on the bbc that was a little better though.

Chris Colombus isn't directing the third Potter film, it's set to be Alfonso Cuarón, director of the amazing and highly sexual Y Tu Mama Tambien. Should be great.

Burton, on the other hand, shouldn't be directing Potter movies... his next project, Big Fish, looks too cool for words. The Wonka remake will be great, and I think Walken or Robin Williams would do the part some crazy justice.

uh, the bruce willis thing was a joke. but i don't think he is over-rated at all, in fact under-rated if you ask me. it is his fault though for picking too many action flicks. he is a great actor in some bad movies. check out breakfast of champions if you don't believe me.

our name is a dangerous secret that few have lived to understand. be careful asking questions you're not ready to know the answer to.

kevin spacey is over rated. he speaks in that same annoyingly smug monotone in every role he has ever played. he is like an intellectual keanu.
an okay actor who has been in some great films.

Ah, Return to Oz...one of my favorite childhood movies. I wore it out, too. I used to rent it all the time, and when the video store I rented it from went out of business, I bought the tape off of them. It always upset me though that Dorothy (Veruza Balk) is like five years younger than Judy Garland was when she played Dorothy, and it's supposed to take place after Dorothy first traveled to Oz.

I always wished there were trees in real life with those cute lunch pails hanging from them. The Wheelers were extremely scary, as was the nurse/witch. I always wanted the goodwitch's dress when she comes out of the mirror.
But what will happen to the boy when the circus comes to town?

Return to Oz completely freaked me out. I don't remember how old I was... around 10 or 11 i guess, but I was wondering what the hell was going on the entire time... I watched like the middle thirty minutes.

chris walken perhaps, but the rest are a stretch, similar tone and mono tone are two different things.

I'll go ahead and assume you meant that in a "you can't even spell her name correctly, dumbass!"-sort of way, but in case you do really want to know who she is...

Apparently her name is correctly spelled Fairuza, which means turquoise in Persian. I mentioned her because I figured people would remember her from that wonderful film The Craft, or even better yet...The Waterboy.

Lori Petty and her should have a catfight for the title of "Biggest Female Semi-Celebrity of the Mid-90s."

i heard that alan cumming (nightcrawler in xmen 2) was considered, and i think he'd be the best. even kinda looks like gene wilder to boot.

OOOh, yes. I voted for Johnny considering his expertise in the area- Benny & Joon, Edward Scissorhands, Fear & Loathing, Pirates, Ed Wood, 21 Jumpstreet. But Alan Cumming has that effeminate & charming attitude that Gene has, plus a really creepy/ compelling sideways glance that Gene also has. This sounded like a bad idea, but if anyone can pull it off, it's Mr. Burton.

I think that Marilyn Manson should play Willy Wonka. I think that Mr. Burton will do a fine job in remaking this film. The original did not go with the true mood of the original book by Dahl, "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory". Honest to God, I remember reading this book in second grade and thinking, "Jesus, Willy Wonka is a very decieving character." He isn't really a goofy candyman, as portrayed in the first movie version. In fact, he comes of as quite the manipulator. He acts as if everything is going to be ok, and then somehow gets his group of tourists into some crazy trouble because of his thoughtless, yet convincing actions. If they are going to go for that darker feeling that is present in the original story by Dahl, then they need someone who can play that dark, but witty character. Marilyn Manson all the way!
