Well hell. The US lost to Germany with a score of 0-1. But, this has been a GREAT showing by the Americans in the World Cup. Just thought I would let you all know..
she speaks the truth...
this had been a memorable cup, in that a number of underdogs managed to fight their ways out from the scrum of usual contenders. The US, South Korea, Senegal-- put out an amazing effort, and with a little luck, managed to get to the quarter finals.
Sadly, our own US squad was put down by a good German team. In our defense, the Germans benefitted from a few sketchy calls, including a handball on the goal line, which helped lift them to shady victory.
The biggest surprise of the tournament has been team from co-host South Korea, who was previously winless in World Cup play. This time around, they have managed to beat such quality sides as Italy, Portugal, Spain, the US- possibly the hardest road of any team in the semifinals. Many experts attribute their stunning success to their excellent fitness. It probably doesn't hurt that they are at home, and the calls seem to go their way.
in my opinion, this world cup has been bittersweet, as many of the traditional powers have been ousted. As nice as it has been seeing new faces in the mix, I had hopes for such teams as England and Sweden to go farther than they did...
We'll miss you Mr. Hooper.
