I've found it to be sickly addicting, yet probably better than watching techtv religiously.

You must choose. It is like that movie "Sofie's Choice" only it is Nathan's choice. Do you know that movie, "Sofie's Choice"? It is like that. Only it is this.

happily, i don't know how to play poker...so watching people play it is exceedingly tiresome to me. there seems to be a newfound appreciation for it lately in our fair country, but i am nonplussed by it.

I, along with apparently the rest of America, got hooked on last year's WSoP with Chris Moneymaker. Well apparently the ratings were just outrageous, because since then, every other fucking channel has some sort of poker programming. It's been spread waaaaay to thin. Having said that, I will probably still get hooked on this year's Series.

You can expect roadie's take in 5...4...3...2...1...

So first tourney of the night i'm in 4th out 5, i get pocket 10's on the Big Blind. This is good cause it's gonna be heads up b/t me and the Small Blind who is on a big stack. But wait....the Small Blind never acts!!! Oh shit i lost my connection. No!!!! I'm on cable so if i lose my connection it is really gone, I have to reboot my computer for some reason. So I figure I'm screwed, the blinds are going to eat away at my stack cause it was getting late in the tourney. So it takes me b/t 5 and 10 minutes to get back to the table and holy shit!! by doing nothing but folding (which is what you do when you are disconnected) i came in 3rd (and therefore won $$ because top 3 pays!!). This is a miracle to say the least.

But now, 4 hours later, i lost 4 tourney's in a row and i've had it. Awful Awful cards. Friday i was unbeatable but tonight sucks ass. Anyway the more people that watch the WSOP the better, they'll come play for $$ on partypoker.com, and they'll try and play like the pro's on the WSOP and they'll lose all their $$. The reason they lose is that the strategies that the pros use only work on other pros. You can't make big raises against morons in low stakes games because some idiot will always call you and beat you on the river. you gotta play tight as hell in a low stakes game.

I play poker for absolutely no other reason than to make extra cash. And the swings are so crazy i'm thinkin about quitting. There is so much i'd rather be doing. I don't really like the game all that much, i don't really like the culture of people that surround the game, it is nothing more than a moneymaking scam to me.

With that said, most of the guys in the WSOP are really really good. I haven't seen any of the tapes this year, but i followed it every day when it was happening back in may. Greg Raymer, who won this year, posts a lot on a poker message board i'm on and everybody on the board was ecstatic to see him win. But Dan Harrington year in year out is one of the best. And he plays SUPER tight. (tight meaning conservative) And that's the way that i like to play. Phil "the brat" Hellmuth, Men "the master" Nguyen and Johnny Chan (who graces my avatar) play maniacally agressive. And they're good too.

Anyway, if anybody needs poker advice or wants to learn, I may not be the best person to ask, but i'm better than the majority.

Damn, I'm hooked. All I think about these days is Texas Hold'em. We only play with dimes, but they can add up once you've cleaned out a table of 5 or 6 players. Now all I need is a coin sorting device...and $10000 to buy in on some WSP action. I wouldn't hesitate.
We'll miss you Mr. Hooper.

I tried to float the idea of FMB Poker Night once, but no one seem interested. Anyone have a change of heart? If so, let me know because I'll have to start practicing on-line.

I would love to have a Poker Night... I was even thinking like $30-40 buy in with a tourney of like 20-30 people... the top 5 could win some decent coin at the end of the night. Count me in, plus I could probably bring some extra people to the table.

I might be able to swing $30 or less, being a po' college student. For $25 to $30 I would almost definitely be in. I might be able to find a couple of people to play as well. This should happen. Would we be playing Hold'em? I hope so. unsure.gif

I would only be interested if this proposed poker night was on a weeknight (or possibly sunday after Arrested Development). Everyone I know who plays does so on the weekend. In fact, I would be willing to offer up my house as a venue.

Of course, no girls would be allowed tongue.gif

Why only on a weeknight? Not that I'm opposed to that.

And everybody knows that girls can't play cards. ohmy.gif

Oh man. You guys are all going to get fucking taken by Roadie. You'd better use some self discipline and leave the car title in the glovebox if you don't want to be walking home.

I recently played my first game of poker and I really sucked. I love the lingo though so I would be up for it.

This is music to my ears.

NO j/k. i'd love to play. I'm not a jerk, I play with friends all the time and it's not like i'm out to rob my friends' money. So ya i'm down with any holdem game lim or nl, any buy in.

this could be fun. i think no limit could end up being a joke, depending on how varied the skill levels are.

I had to search this topic out. Work has been terribly slow this week, leaving me with ample time for internet poker. If this money weren't fake, I honestly believe I'd have lost my soul over a would-be flush.

I'm down, be it holdem, stud or omaha. however, no draw for me, please.
