TOPIC: X2

Since I'm sure that about 2-3 of you actually care, I thought I would post this...

Well, being the uber-geek that I am, I actually got to see X2 this morning at 12:01 a.m. The theater was near-full, which amazes me. I was the only one sporting an authentic Nightcrawler badge from 1991 and Generation X t-shirt (geez, did I just type that?) to show my true fandom. The trailers were all horrible and the only one that vaguely interested me was "the Matrix." Eh...

On to the movie.

I will not lie. I did almost cry tears of joy at the beginning and end. It is amazing. When I seriously think about it, I think this may be the second best movie I have ever seen (right after "Empire Strikes Back"). Whereas the first one was slower moving and built up a steady pace, this one starts off exciting and does not let up until, quite possibly, the most amazing ending to any movie that I have seen in my life. I'm sure that I feel this way because of my 10 year love of these characters, but it is just a great comic movie. The acting is all around superb (Alan Cumming is my new hero). The dialogue is witty (no lines about what happens to toads when they get struck by lightning). The action is more actiony. The characters are all more defined. The movie is just bigger and better and it takes the franchise to the next level.

Genius.

And there will be an X3, and based on how the movie ends, it will be even better. I'm going to see it again in 2 hours. Must prepare...

I am very excited about the possibilities of this movie. I may end up seeing it on saturday. If you're up for it, Digsy, I'll be in town already, maybe we could catch it together. (even though you'll have already seen it twice the day before)

I've heard nothing but rave reviews for it and I'm heavily anticipating this, since I too collect comics.

If it's anything like LOTF:TFR was, then I probably will shed a tear or two at the movie's beauty and portrayal of the characters. Call me an uber-geek if you must, but that's the way I am.

Just a Digsy fact, but I saw "X-Men" 3 times its opening day and then an additional 3 times in the following two days, bringing up the grand total to 6 times in 3 days.

In my opinion there are three possible plots for X3 that will make it the greatest comic book flick ever made.

First off they HAVE to put Gambit in the third one, there's no way around it. The bad part is, the only person I can really see playing him well would be that Viggo dude from LOTR, and well, he's Aragorn.

But now to the plot lines.

1. The Phalanx (sp?) Saga - You could have a field day with special effects, not to mention it's still one of my favorite mini's in X history.

2. Apocolypse and the Four Horsemen - The X-Men and Magneto must combine strength to take on this beast that cannot truely be killed. Not to mention I have this great scene in my head of Gambit facing off one-on-one with Archangel. Archangel sending one of his razor wing shards at Gambit (probably in bullet time with the way things are now). Gambit swiping it out of midair, charging it up, and sending it right back to sender.

3. Legion - Bringing in Prof. X's son, who damn near killed him on numerous occasions.

There. I'm a geek as well.

Not that it is possible for X3, but better than any other miniseries has to be the X-Cutioner's song. Too many characters to make it feasable, though.

I might possibly be a bigger geek than any of you as far as x-men goes (note: i'm not bragging, i said bigger geek, not bigger fan). i still have literally thousands of comics, and i could type enough about x-men to fill up another message board. that said, all i'll add is that i'm really looking forward to seeing this movie, and it's quite possible that i might have an uncontrollable seizure of excitement during the opening credits.

i'm prolly gonna venture out to the slow bar tonight. i noticed that the show starts at 10:30 sharp, which means that it should be over by midnight-ish. are there any "late" showing theaters in nashville i could possibly see X2 at after the features? lemme know. the features and X2 back to back would be too cool for words.

I can't wait to see it! I can remember watching the cartoon all the time on FOX but I wasn't into comic books.

I always end up taking my little brother to movies that he is dying to see because my mama an 'nem just don't make it the movies that often. I bet the last movie they saw in theaters was like "What's Love Got to Do with It" or something like that laugh.gif But, seeing as how I definitly down for watching X2 I'll proabably be there with him a a few of my other little cousins blink.gif

After seeing it a second time, I will not spoil the movie but I can say that what is considered to be one of the greatest comic stories ever told will be tackled by Bryan Singer & Co. in the third film. And. It. Will. Be. Beautiful.

I really want Gambit in the next one. He's always been one of my favorites (after Multiple Mand and Nightcrawler). Actually, if you watch closely in X2, you'll see a nod to both Gambit and Multiple Man. I love Bryan Singer for putting so many inside X-Jokes in the movie. And I agree, Wiyum, that X-Cutioner's song is a great story. I actually dreamed up a situation where X-Force would become a TV series spun-off from the movie, and then X-Cutioner's song could occur as some sort of 10 episode mini-series (like Sci-Fi's "Taken"). I think waaay too much about this stuff.

Overall, I think that the X-movies stand heads and shoulders above every other comic inspired movie ever made. And BoF, when it comes to X-knowledge, you have met your match, bub.

I'm seeing it at 10:30 tonight, but my early prediction for film number 3 is Dark Phoenix... is that in fact what you were thinking Digsy?

Ideally though we'd have some Apocalypse and some Mr. Sinister. Oooh... Day of Future Past would be fun too...

I think the Phoenix Saga may be premature for number 3... if they do a fourth I could see it, but I think they'll have to do something a little less epic in order to introduce gambit and others before they do Phoenix or X-cutioner's Song.

I really liked this movie. Good stuff.

The Empire Strikes Back reference is an interesting. Did you notice that the love thing between Wolf Man and the white Bond Girl parallels that of Empire?? If Leia had ended up in the carbonite, George Lucas could sue that movie for enough to hire a real director for Episode 3. I hope to God that they do not bring back the white bond girl, unless they bring her back as her other identity in the comics, Marvel Girl (complete with the Fluid Ounces song of the same title for the soundtrack).

I also liked Tail Man, with all his jumping around and cloud making and praying.

I was on the edge of my seat for so much of this. I hadn't been to the movies since...oh I can't even remember. I got all into the fighting and stuff, and I always get really giddy when I see some good on-screen violence. The mutant kind helps. My thought on the first one was that it spent so much time with exposition. This one didn't have to deal with that, so I go everything I want
1) Wolf Man cutting people with his claws...a lot
2) Magnet Man killing people with iron from their blood, as well as by taking pins from their grenades
3) Long Nail Lady and Wolf Man slicing each other up
4) Fire Guy burning stuff
5) Wolf Man getting shot

With Jason and Capt Picard, they needed one thing (two words): Cripple Fight!

I'll see that one again soon.

I would like to see X2, but I haven't even seen the first one, and I hate seeing sequels without seeing originals. And I'm sure I'll never get around to acutally seeing the first one since I'm too cheap to rent it.
But what will happen to the boy when the circus comes to town?

You could probably get by without seeing the first one, but it would help. I've seen the first one so many times that it's boring, and it pales in the face of the second.

As an aside, the 2nd Terminator can be seen without seeing the first, and will probably be enhanced without the first.

If you need a crash course on the original, I can run it by ya in about one minute. The second really only enhances the first, and you would only be missing what powers each characters have (but when they use them it becomes obvious).

On IMDB.com, two actors are credited as Dr. Sebastian Shaw and Dr. Hank McCoy. Interestingly enough, another actor (actually, someone with only stuntperson credits) is credited as Remy Lebeux/Gambit. I noticed his name in the movie on the list of prisoners in Magneto's prison, but no actual person.

There actually was a scene that was cut that showed Gambit charging up a card. This might just be a rumour, but I'm pretty sure I read it in a Bryan Singer interview. Also, I think that the Danger Room was edited out and a scene with Warren Worthington/Angel was taken out prior to the film's production.

I have high hopes for Gambit in the third film.

Her real name is Yuriko Oyama (not to be confused with Mariko Yashida, who Wolvie almost married, or Yukio, who inspired Storm to get a mohawk). I am not sure if the romance with Wolvie was just added for the cartoon because I can't recall anything being mentioned of it in the comics. I'm also pretty sure that Deathstrike is not a mutant and definitely doesn't have a healing factor in the comcis. She is a cyborg who was created by the Reavers.

This marks the second time that I have missed HBO's X2 special and I'm sorta ticked off. I also just read that Kelly Hu has a contract for 2 X sequels...and I can't express how much I don't want her in the next film. With all (hopefully) of the main cast returning and all of the Brotherhood (including those in the first movie) contractually obligated to return, there will be no room for Beast, Angel & Gambit (like Bryan Singer has planned). If I had it my way, I would just have the X-Men, the X-Students, the Hellfire Club, Gambit, Mr. Sinister, and some expanded cameos by Beast & Angel...with maybe a lil' Sentinel action.

Well, I sure have rambled. The X2 count is only at four times...I still have to see it three more times to break my record.

My predictions/hopes for X3:

-Gambit, Angel, Beast, and a more fleshed-out Colossus.
-The relationship between Mystique, Rogue, and Nightcrawler at least touched upon (or explained).
-A love triangle created between Gambit, Rogue, and Iceman.
-A "real" fight between Cyclops and Wolverine.
-Budding relationship between Shadowcat and Nightcrawler.
-Double storyline: 1. Phoenix Saga (with outer space action) and some past story of the Professor and the Shiar Empire. 2. Human/mutant war on Earth, with government regulated sentinels of course.

I watched "night of the sentinels" the other day on video, and I was thinking that it generally would make a good story for X3, with the mutant registration act and all. Plus it would be a good way to introduce Jubilee (who I know was already in X2), but they could figure something out.

I'm glad that Bryan Singer is steering the movie series into a direction where the X-Mens' worst enemies are not evil mutants like Magneto, but the general population of people, and prejudice. I honestly believe that I would have loved this movie even if I had not been a fan of the X-Men. It was done very well, and made very believable with situations that everyone can relate to. I will now proceed to be a geek elsewhere.

Let's get serious folks...

X3 needs

more stabbing by Wolfman
white Bond girl's crazy titties
black Bond girl's crazy titties
more knock-down, drag-out fighting
sentinels
capt picard killing people with his mind
magnet man doing more killing
more fights from cloud man

you get the idea

Your posts on this topic are truly priceless, YDDD. I just wanted to let you know they are appreciated.

I agree that X-Men 3 should focus heavy on Gambit, Angel/Archangel, Beast, and Colossus. The Sentinels never did much for me, but Mister Sinister and the Hellfire Club would be rad (and potential for another hott chick or two). I think glimpses of the Phoenix (by that I mean telepathic clues given to Xavier) would be a good lead-in to the 4th movie.

I'm not down with the X-franchise going past #3. Hugh Jackman has already stated that he only wants to do one more, and there is absolutely no one who can replace him. Halle Berry is already throwing tantrums and may not be in the third one, and I would much rather her not be in it than them recast her. I hope that instead of an X4, they can focus on other areas of the X-Verse and make them as interesting as they have with the main X-Team.

So for X3, I'm definitely down with a full on Dark Phoenix Saga.

There shouldn't be an X4.

A Phoenix saga in no way would resolve all the social commentary that they have been discussing since the first film. Yes, it'll be hard to resolve in one film anyway, but the Phoenix saga would not fit the first two. Sentinels, juggernaut, and crazy titties would resolve everything from the first film.

Well, I think that after the way X3 ended, there is no other plotline to do. Of course I trust that Bryan Singer won't do it exactly like the comics (meaning no Shi'ar or Imperial Guard, which is fine by me). I think that the Phoenix Saga would continue developing the characters in a new and interesting way and since the first two X-movies have been pretty heavily character driven, it would fit. Instead of having the Shi'ar and Imperial Guard, I would rather have the Hellfire Club and the Sentinels. Those two villains would provide new angles to show the prejudice (elitist mutants who drink a lot of tea and giant robots who police mutants).

Plus the women in the Hellfire Club wear thongs and bustiers, so that'll be hot.

I've been waiting for somebody to say this. It's even funnier since it was Digsy.
