Are you spying on me? I was just listening to Sixpence None the Richer's cover of "Don't Dream It's Over" when I read your post and saw that signature. Now I'm scared...

Yes, stranely enough that song was just on a commercial, and then I checked the board. It freaked me out.

And it's on right now as I type this.

"How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days" needs to come out and bomb so they'll stop playing that darn commercial.

Yes, JC, I am stalking you. I have been since the first time I saw My Tyger. I need to stalk closer so that I can hear Sixpence play that song.

Furthermore, shut up all y'all, because Crowded House rules.

Who aren't you stalking, SOS? I think that'd be a shorter list.

I heard the new version in the preview for 10 Ways when I was at the movies with Stephanie. However, I didn't realize it was by Sixpence. That sort of makes me sad because I don't want them to be known as a band who only re-makes 80's songs and appears on the soundtracks of romantic comedies.

But their movie hit #1 this week so maybe the exposure will help.

Speaking of 6Pence, their website says that they will play Exit/In on Sunday, one week from tonight. Will anyone be attending?

I heard the new album on the internet, and it's OK. With that in mind, I may go. It depends: Fox will have the Simpsons 1.5 hour special for their 300th episode, and ABC will be showing the Music Man. Decisions, decisions...

And if you like Apples in Stereo, they're also playing next Sunday (at the End)...I believe Character is opening up for them.

I adore the Apples, but I saw them last week in Atlanta & was sorely disappointed. I love their trippy/ layered songs & Robert's production, but live they just play their rrrrock songs and they're kind of sloppy. That style is good for their most recent album, but not for their other stuff. I know this is not very cool to say on a rock message board, but they were also WAY too fucking loud. Seriously maybe the loudest show I've ever heard, and the openers were not loud at all, so it was clearly their choice to destroy my eardrums. Plus Robert was kind of a whiny bitch that night when his Big Muff malfunctioned. And they also didn't invite any of the Elephant 6 glitterati in the audience onstage to play with them. Bah Humbug.

On the positive side, the opening band travelling with them (Oranger) was suprisingly good. And of course it's worth going just to see character.

I saw oranger and the apples last week at the Hi-Tone. they were really good. I tend to like the rock stuff they do live mnore than the stuff on their latest records. but that's just me. it was a good show. i would have my fav. in the elephant six is still neutral milk hotel, though.

They didn't play much old old stuff. Although I can't remember how lucky charm goes. Highlights for me were The Rainbow & Strawberry Fire (yes! sounded great, in spite of my earlier grumblings). They played almost all of the new album.

Gah, I really really want to go see them Sunday! All I've been listening to lately are "Tone Soul Evolution" and "Velocity of Sound." It really sucks that I have to wrestle Dr. Louis Burkhardt Haas Jr.'s midterm the next day... sad.gif

What elephant 6 "glitterati" were in attendance?

I second Stalker on Skate's motion that Neutral Milk Hotel was the best E6 band.

I've never seen the Apples live so I'm looking forward to the show, but yeah, I've always heard they were a shitty live act.

Will Cullen Hart was there (and requested The Rainbow), and Heather who plays the cello in a bunch of bands and 2 other people who looked familiar & later looking online I think they were the singer from Ladybug Transistor (but he's from NY?) & John Fernandes of Olivia Tremor Control/ Circulatory System. There was one other blonde guy with glasses who was really familiar, so either he's from Nashville or he's in the Great Lakes or some other E6 band I've seen.

Circulatory System made my favorite Elephant 6 album ever, but alas that was their one and and only (so far). Apples tie Olivia Tremor Control for my favorite band.

I saw the Apples in Stereo a few months ago open for Clinic and have to say I was also quite disappointed. Granted, the venue was double booked so they didn't go on stage till around 1:15am, they said they'd had no soundcheck, and Clinic definitely upstaged them. But I don't know, they just didn't pull it off somehow. I wasn't a big fan of their new stuff, either. And Lauren, I will also sacrifice any rock cred I have and also say that they were way too loud and I even (gasp) wore earplugs.
They do get my award for most congenial band ever though, almost to a saccharine extent.

Interesting- my friend tried to go to that show (I'm assuming it was in Chicago?) & it was sold out. Guess she didn't miss much in terms of the Apples. Yeah, I definitely am not too proud to wear earplugs, but I forgot mine & didn't have 50 cents to buy some new ones. I do love the Atlanta trend of having gumball machines filled with earplugs, though.

And ditto to the cutesiness too. Even though Robert was whining he was also giggling & smiling so much, and his voice is so high, that I thought he was on helium or something.

Oooh, how I love the Makeup. And anyone who hears Ian's moans and DOESN'T love them is a sucka who probably likes the White Stripes or something sucky like that. But seriously- my honeymoon is the only thing standing in the way of me driving to Atlanta to see the scene creamers. We could've had a night to remember, Sina. Alas, alack.

guess that makes me the tenth.

i've listened to some things from "In Mass Mind" and "Save Yourself" before. it didn't strike me as something i personally would listen to on a regular basis, but also definitely not something i detest. maybe one day i will grow to appreciate them, maybe not. therefore i say that i "don't mind" them. is that okay with you?
