TOPIC: Your favorite article of clothing
Posted  Thursday, July 25, 2002 at 9:54 AM
Post 1 of 22
Being the vintage clothes fiend that I am, I was wondering what each board members favorite article of clothing is. This may seem like an extremely stupid topic, but....

My favorite article of clothing would have to be one of the following:

1. The pair of Beatle Boots that I found earlier this month and which I wear every day.
2. My chocolate brown pants
3. My multitude of ties. (i seriously have , like, 30 ties. damon can confirm this)

My favorites when it comes to clothing are:

1. This red dress from the 70's I acquired this summer. It came complete with a jacket to match that comes down past my knees. It is more of a winter dress, so I haven't been able to wear it yet. I can't wait until it gets cold just so I can flaunt it about.

2. A skirt that I got from my grandmother's backroom closet. I was snooping through all of the old clothes she has, and I came across a skirt and jacket (once again from the 70's) that she said I could have. I never wear the jacket, but I wear the skirt at least once every two weeks.

3. Flip flops. ANY kind of flip flops. TF can vouch for this for me.

my favorite article of clothing is whatever is clean. i tend to wear one pair of jeans for many days in a row... maybe even weeks.

and for the record, flip flops are a welcome addition to any ensemble.
We'll miss you Mr. Hooper.

Hmm...my honorable mentions go to my Oasis tour t-shirt and my 1992 Cable (from the X-Men) t-shirt that I found in a flea market and the big three are....

1. My denim jacket. Yes it is from the Gap but it is very cool and the only place where I can showcase multiple, multiple buttons

2. My courderoy jacket with elbow pads. Guaranteed to make me look like a librarian despite whatever is underneath it.

3. My Richard Dawson-esque brown suit with orange pint-stripes. So late 70s. So Game Show host. So cool. Vest/Pants/Jacket all for 25 dollars at Goodwill. Gotta love it.

I also love my converse and my ties (even though I hardly wear them..sigh). I'm ready for winter.

I agree. I'm tempted to list:

(1) My one-sleeved black tank top

(2) My carnation pink J. Crew Capris, and

(3) My glittery ass-crack showing, 2 sizes too tight, flared-bottom jeans

Since brianeno2 is not here, I hereby announce this topic irrelevant.

What is the big deal? What are so many message board members upset about? This topic was posted in the misc. section. That section means that we can talk about anything, including clothing. I thought only the general section was for features related topics. I didnt know that there are certain rules that you have to abide by on a message board. I may be stepping on a few toes, but I dont care. What's the big deal?

No, this topic does not violate any rules (written or unwritten). However, we have high standards here for the quality of conversation. It depresses some of us that the only thing we can find to talk about is our clothing.

Here's a fun excercise for you. First, read the topic called "The Vines." (You can even skip the first twenty posts or so... it's just a conversation between two people.) Notice how many posts have only one or two sentences. Then ask yourself, "Did I really read anything worthwhile in this topic?" Then go read the most recent topic called "Wilco." Even if you're not a Wilco fan, you'll notice how intelligently people express and explain their views on the band and its music. That makes it worthwhile to read.

Do I take all of this way too seriously? Probably so.

This is just a message board. If you deem a topic too "irrelevent" then don't read it. I think getting angry and bashing a topic is itself immature. Any well rounded board (which I think is what we have here) is capable of both stimulating conversations and goofy little chats. Looking at Ray Davies post number, I would assume that he has contributed to both types in the past and people bashing his topic is..well...kinda rude. Lighten up. I am glad to know that there is such a thing as "chocolate colored pants" and a "yellow submarine tie."

As long as no one is posting their top five places to go to the bathroom, then I don't see anything wrong with a harmless little chat. I'm not trying to be rude or anything, just giving my opinion (and all of this is said in an unagitated soothing voice, and not my normal whining one). smile.gif wink.gif laugh.gif

Nope. I'm not bashing anyone or any topics. ray asked why some people are so upset, and I was simply trying to explain my perspective (and I think several others feel the same way).

You're right... this message board does have a lot of diversity in its topics, both serious and light-hearted, and it caters to a diverse group of people at different stages in their lives. So there is certainly room for different opinions and a need for tolerance. I'm have nothing against the "fun" topics. (After all, my name is Tom Foolery.) I think they help keep things interesting.

I think some people are concerned, though, that topics that start out as intelligent quickly degenerate into "fun" topics. Once you stop having relevant discussions, some people will start leaving, and then it's no fun for anyone.

~TF

P.S. My top five favorite places to relieve myself are:

1. My restroom at home
2. A public men's room
3. On a tree
4. On the hood of someone's car
5. In the hot tub

And I only relieve myself at home.

I think that this is a great topic despite what some people are saying... I know that I am new so my humble opinion does not count. Here are my three:
1. Vintage Elvis Costello tour shirt -1983!!!
2. Mary Tyler Moore-esque plaid pants
3. Red velvet jacket, newly acquired form the Goodwill in the ghetto

We should have a fashion show where everyone wears their favorite items

I never post anything on the message board because people are always criticizing one another. I usually just read for my own entertainment, fearing that someone will not find my comments "intellectually stimulating enough" (as says HaveSomeSoma). However, I find this topic quite enjoyable, being the clothing addict that I am.

My Favorite Articles of Clothing:
1. original vintage Jam shirt promoting "Start"
2. black Ziggy Stardust shirt
3. pink vintage 50's heels
4. vintage 50's black pin-up-girl pumps
5. various Beatles shirts
6. vintage button-up western shirt with cacti and armadillos
7. various vintage skirts
8. black and hot pink polka dot shirt with matching tie
9. white tshirt with a bunny and kitty (which is really a little girl's gown)
10. old purple converses
11. various bowling shoes
12. all of my jackets/coats/blazers. I have about 20, and I'm not exaggerating.
13. all of my vintage mod watch bands
- I could go on and on, but I know I've listed too many already.
It is quite clear that I spend way too much money at thrift stores and on eBay.

This was an excellent topic in my opinion, Ray Davies. Despite what some people say, I believe since we all share a somewhat similar taste in music, we should be able to discuss other topics as well, no matter what they are.
But what will happen to the boy when the circus comes to town?
