TOPIC: Your favorite local band - other than The Features

Obviously, everyone here loves the allmighty Features, but who else in town does everyone dig? You can only put ten answers on a poll, so I'm sure there are some folks that aren't on the list...

Hey, that's a pretty good list. I wouldn't have the balls to even attempt such a feat, but you did a fine job. The only band that wasn't on there that I can think of off the top of my head is the Luxury Liners.

My vote was for verde, but forget cassettes and jetpack were close seconds.

My prediction: Character wins by a landslide.

Bands I know I left off for lack of space:

The Bees
The Rugs
The Luxury Liners (duh, thanks Carligula)
Feable Weiner
Hot Pipes
Slack
All the jam bands (because I don't like them..lol)
Joe, Marc's Brother
Bobby Bare Jr.

And Venus H., David M. & Josh R. who don't count because they are signed.

I couldn't even get my vote in because I clicked on the wrong thing and the system thinks I have already voted now. Someone give my vote to De Novo Dahl for me - Derek's outfits take the cake!

Thanks, Ray. Very insightful.

Oh man, how could I forget about Slack!?! They rock it hardcore.

If I'm not mistaken, all the bands on the poll have opened for the Features except verde. Hopefully that will be remedied soon...

I can't wait till someone is jerky enough to make a "worst local bands" category. Oh man, I could fill up that poll in a second.

I voted for De Novo Dahl. As I have previously stated, they are the shit. After that would come:

2. Character
3. Verde
4. Lume
5. Lone Official
6. Jetpack
7. Lucky Guns

But all of these bands are great, they really are. I cannot rightly vote on Aireline or Forget Cassettes, because I've never heard them. Also great: Slack, Feable Weiner, JMB, Bare Jr, the Hot Pipes. Yeah, Venus Hum, David Mead, and Josh Rouse are also awesome. Oh, and there's this band called Lambchop that's pretty good. You guys, we are SO BLESSED to live in a city with so much great music. SO BLESSED.

But seriously, when do we get to vote on "worst band"?
Relevant: Prince, PT Anderson, Punk, Post-Punk, Purple, Party of Five, Peter Swanson, Peter Gabriel-led Genesis, "Peter Panic", Paul's Boutique, Potential Energy, Every Features MB member but me.

Yes, I don't feel like I'm in a real band until I am trashed by The Features Message Board.

Everyone hates Feable Weiner at first, but they eventually win you over. If nothing else, you have to admit they are tight as hell.

Anyway, I can't decide who to vote for. I would vote JMB if they were there. I love Character and Slack. Actually I like almost every band listed.
I TOTALLY AGREE!

Keith, you are destined to rock. Never forget this.

The only thing that I like about Feable Weiner is their ability to market themselves.....their music sucks. It's a shame when a band like that gets signed to a label (although it is a small label) and an amzing and truly deserving band (the features) does not.....

i will say normalcy(red shift). i'm actually not even sure if they're still together, but i think they are. the only band that rivaled them in stage chemistry was lifeboy, who would be my top pick if they were still together. they both have the best musicians and songs. jeff horne and sam smith are two of my favorite drummers.

I have heard of them, and I am curious because of the name... but I have never actually seen them. I know they played New Year's Eve at The End, but I didn't go.

What are they like?

i've been digging the hot pipes disc very much.
You know you have problems, with both money and alcohol, when you find yourself shoving beers down your pants outside a Features show.

I'm with IWantElvis on this one, Bare Jr. rocks the hiz-ouse (after The Features, of course). Great show when he opened for them at 12th & Porter a while back. Tonight he's playing with...guess who....Andrew Bird @ Slow Bar.

"Boo-tay" was a great album, for those of you who asked what he's done that was so great. mad.gif

Uhhhhh... yeah. They opened for Those Legendary Shack*Shakers a few weeks back. They were... interesting. I especially enjoyed the song about jars of monkey semen. "'Cause monkey semen/is the best semen of all"
