Starwood Amphitheatre - Nashville, TN
Opening act: Guster
_______________________

One Sweet World
Don’t Drink the Water
Drive In-Drive Out
Satellite
Rapunzel
Granny
Crush
When the World Ends
Seek Up
Ants Marching
Cry Freedom
Too Much

ENCORE: We beat the traffic.

Did anyone else go? There were more songs they played that I didn't know. I'm not a very hardcore fan; I pretty much just have the albums. Some of the mystery songs were good.

What a great experience. I hadn't seen these boys since probably 1998. During Ants Marching I got this overwhelming sense of nostalgia - I was briefly sent back to a place before I decided to be an indie rock music snob, a place where I attached no social stigma to the bands I liked. That was a good place to be. Actually, I think it all changed when I first got into the Features in 1999. We could probably chalk it up to zeitgeist though.

Highlights:
-Crushing en route to Starwood (when in Rome...)
-Hearing new Self B-sides
-Getting soaked in the rain
-Giving Simone & TF's tickets to Nashville's Finest
-One Sweet World, Drive In-Drive Out, Seek Up, Ants
-Being chatted up (and reciprocating said chatting) by a hot 27 yr old mom (You were wrong B, two kids!)

Would have liked to have heard:
Two Step, Best of What's Around, Warehouse, Stay, Lover Lay Down, Lie in Our Graves, Song That Jane Likes, Jimi Thing, I'll Back You Up

Thanks for the ticket, Ben!
You know you have problems, with both money and alcohol, when you find yourself shoving beers down your pants outside a Features show.

No shit? Two kids?!! I'm losing my skills. I wouldn't have guessed her a day over 24. BTW, you already called her?

Anyway, I love you, Baine.

It was a good time, although I had kind of the opposite experience from tlw's feeling of youthful nostalgia. I felt very much like an old geezer, standing out there on the grass, actually somewhat paying attention to the music. In reality, at 25, I'm probably not that much older than DMB's average fan. But for some reason, I felt very old and out of place.

To pass you on the old man train...

Our first official "I'll pick you up at 7" date (that would be my wife and I) was a DMB concert in August of 1995. Back then they weren't exactly the big jam band that they are now, in fact I don't think they sold out the 2500 seat hall in Davenport, IA.

I don't know if it was the intoxicating tunes of DMB or what, but by January we had moved in together and were married a year and a half later. It'll be 7 years in September. We always swear to go see DMB when they come around but something always comes up. This year's excuse was a pretty lame one. It seems pregnant women don't like "heat" and their "backs hurt". Sheesh. Next they'll give up their 5 o'clock gin and tonics...

That was around about the first time I saw them - summer of 1995 at Riverfront Park. It's weird to think about the Dave Matthews Band being a new and exciting phenomenon, but back then they were. I was 16 and went with a bunch of guys from Brentwood Academy that I had just met. Talk about crushing...I had a fake ID and it was ON in that open-front parking garage at the top of 2nd avenue.

EDIT: In retrospect, I think alot of people were friends with me back then only because of that fake ID. That's pretty sad, actually.

I some how doubt that was only reason... and yes, the buzz about DMB was incredible and it was quite exciting to see him... I can't remember the name of the chick that opened up for him... she had that song that starts with "I dont wanna call your number...."

That was Dionne Farris, formerly of Arrested Development fame. She opened up the Riverfront Park show too, along with the Samples.

i used to have a strange obsession with arrested development. i heard mr. wendel on the radio driving up here the other day and seriously almost crashed into the side of the mountain because i got so excited.

my first dmb show was in '94, i think... i was 8 or so and my sister, who was 21 at the time, thought the concert would make a neat bonding experience for us. i've seen him 24 or so times since then and i'm honestly not ashamed about it. he usually puts on a damn good show and it's always nice to see drunk sorostitutes dancing around.

again, guys, i'm sorry about the tickets.
