Welcome, AWttC!!!

Most of us here are from Nashville (the place where the Features play the most). The Strokes just came through, and you can read our discussion of it in the thread I started the other day called "Dave Grohl looks like Billy Joel."

I like the Strokes but Huey Lewis and the News are better.
I repeat:

You like Huey Lewis and the News?

Their early work was a little too New Wave for my taste. But then Sports came out in 1983, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello but I think Huey has a more bitter, cynical sense of humor. In 1987 Huey released this, Fore!, their most accomplished album. I think I their undisputed masterpiece is "Hip To Be Square," a song so catchy that most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity and the importance of trends. It's a personal statement about the band itself.
That's so NA.

I can't take credit for that....it's from the fantastically terrible movie "American Psycho."

Huey has been popping up in my life a lot lately. It must be some kind of sign.

And thanks, RD. I try to learn from your examples. wink.gif

Well, for starters, look at the Oscar nominations for Best Original Screenplay from 2004, or 2003, or 2002, or 2001, or 2000, or 1999, or 1998, or 1997, or 1996, or 1995, or 1994, or 1993, or 1992, or 1991, or 1990, et cetera

I was mostly kidding. I was going to make some joke about "The Passion," but couldn't think of anything offensive enough. Nice list, though.
