I know this is for an older album, but this is one of the funniest reviews I've ever read.
Relevant: Prince, PT Anderson, Punk, Post-Punk, Purple, Party of Five, Peter Swanson, Peter Gabriel-led Genesis, "Peter Panic", Paul's Boutique, Potential Energy, Every Features MB member but me.

Ha-ha! The only thing is, it's hard to be an anonymous Beatleholic.
That's so NA.

What a bunch of pretentious bullshit. To say a band is ripping off the Beatles is a complete waste of time. Sloan is badass-- especially this album. I'm very, very pleased with the new one (which is saying a lot when you consider the utter disappointment of Pretty Together).

Carl, Carl.......

I agree with you. Its a great f'n record and I listened to it everday for months when it came out.

I didn't pick up any mean spirit in that review. They were just poking fun, just like some poke fun at Yorke's affected jibberish. Doesn't make it any less great, in my opinion.

After living with w.t. and neuboy, I quickly realized I can't let someone's biting opinion ruin my taste/musical self esteem.

Okay, you're right. I went back and read it, trying hard not to read into the sarcasm. In fact, I think this sums it up quite nicely:

"Be content with what you are," Karl agrees. "A band from Canada that sounds a lot like the Beatles; a band from Canada that turns out some wonderful Beatlesque songs and makes enjoyable, listenable albums. And if only a small group of people like you, and buy your records, and go to your shows, then so be it. Rejoice in making that group happy, and revel in the fact that the rest of the world brushes you off as Lennon/ McCartney wannabes. It's their loss, after all."

I would also like to point out that "Pretty Together" is an example of what happens when a band tries hard to depart from their original sound. Luckily, "Action Pact" is an example of what happens when a band realizes that they've totally fucked up by doing so.
