I was thinking about it and I've gotten to where I look forward to Dahl shows as much as I do anything. They're so fucking fun. I'm glad they play as much as they do. They should have a tip jar at this show though, cause I don't see them getting much out of this Forget Cassettes show, since it's only $5. I could be very wrong though. DND is the only reason I'm going.

i think forget cassettes is one of the best bands in town. if you don't appreciate their style then so be it. but they are both great players (unlike many of the other two pieces across the country (meg white)) beth writes great songs and has great attitude and voice. donny is a force - sometimes he can overplay and draw too much attention to himself, but hopefully he will grow out of that. sina is just jealous that beth can hold her liquor.

Oh... SNAP!

I think I've made it abundantly clear, but Forget Cassettes is one of my nashville favorites. They have a great deal of attitude, style, and originality. Beth is a fantastic songwriter and Donni is an incredibly energetic and dynamic drummer. I can understand why some people don't like them, though. Of course, those people are idiots biggrin.gif

Hmm, I remember the days of elementary school when being called Danny Tanner was painful and not something people referred to with "mmm"s of desire. Mr. Clean was another one they liked to use a lot. But, I didn't look like him.

I read that today. The article sucks. They need a more clued-in writer for the music section. She (writer) likes to use lots of adjectives to cover up the fact that she has little information and experience to fill up the alotted two pages. Forget Cassettes had an almost equally shitty write-up a month or so ago.

it was one of my favorite forget cassettes shows. since it was outside, you could hear other things besides donny's cymbals. i enjoyed all the new sounds donny is making with his electronic toys. i helps keep him from overplaying drums, helping the arrangements become more tasteful.

Forget Cassettes=extremely loud! And the guitar sounded a bit too harsh for my taste. Other than that, they played a great show. I especially enjoyed the part when Beth made guitar feedback for like 5 minutes straight and everyone in the crowd started to feel really uncomfortable, then they suddenly broke into some crazy riffage. That was way sweet.

I really enjoyed this show. As always, I loved the DND set. Their radiation suits are probably thier best outfits to date. I liked the new Forget Cassettes songs and set. I had not seen them in about half a year, so maybe some of the songs aren't that new. Doni seemed a lot less showboaty in this show, right up until the very end. As a result, the set was probably the second best one that I have seen. Did anyone notice that the singer from the first band, Not Before Noon (?), sounded a lot like Mitch Hedberg when he talked in-between songs. Voice, style of talking...maybe it was just me, but I found it very funny, though I'm sure that it wasn't intentional. I didn't like them much, but they aren't the worst band ever.

It was nice to meet weenysmack. It was also nice having JamieCarroll over to the casa de RD, Brother Love, and PaulFreaksMeOut, after the show. JC has a tight SUV. And, the after-party at sideponytails was fun too. It was a good night.

I don't know, this girl was less Samoan; though, she could have been acting on behalf of Sina. She had straight dark hair, medium height, skinny, dressed pretty well, fairly good-looking, giggly, college aged, accompanied by frat-boys...unfortunately, that describes a lot of people at the show, so we may never know.

Yeah, I agree. I'm all about efficiency. And if you knew JC you'd probably be worthy of making a judgement call like that.

Here's another reason to have an SUV: Being a musician who would rather have a vehicle capable of carrying around their gear instead of bumming off someone else or renting a van everytime they had a show.

So you're the guy in the electric car I see all the time.

Kidding aside, I know a lot of people that have SUVs for non-image related reasons (like their vocation and/or avocation). Maybe we shouldn't be so presumptuous in the future.

Yes,
Let me rephrase, Im not making a judgement call on JC or RD, I'm sure they are wonderful great nice people. But it seems that the general american public has been brainwashed to believe that the image of SUVs are the hippest coolest things around. When in fact, they are horrible horrible vehicles. And pop culture has ate it up due to the corporate sponsors that promote them and then eat all the profits up from the emaculate consumption of petrolium, and the very expensive price of purchasing a new vehicle.

Well, you're half-right.

Seriously, like I said, I totally agree with you on the general unncessaryness (did I just invent a word?) of SUVs. Personally, I care much more about efficiency and reliability in automobiles than image. On the other hand, I've always thought my Honda Accord looks totally badass. I attribute that mostly to the neon and spoiler package I got, though. And my sweet rims that keep spinning even after I've parked it at the club.

I just thought it was cool because it looks like what the guys wearing old baseball jerseys and matching caps wear, yet it was JC driving it. That is why I thought it was neat. Other than that, I don't like SUVs. The only people that really need them are people that have to carry large amounts of cargo occasionally, and large families. Other people, like my former employer, have them simply for image reasons. Over the past two years, I saw a large increase in the number of SUV drivers in Gallatin. They were not vans though, they were Suburbans, Yukons, etc. The point being that the people who I knew that owned them had seemingly no reason to have such a large, expensive vehicle. People can buy whatever they want, it doesn't matter to me. I just think it's silly when you see your local lawyer driving down Main Street in his shiny, clean SUV, when all of his children are out of college. It seems rather pointless to me. But, what do I know? I have a truck and the only time I've used the bed of it is to move people to new homes and carry my friends around during high school. Yes, I am part of the problem.

I did notice that once. The time that I saw it, a girl was the one who threw the cigarette. I'm not sure why that was called for, especially considering how nice Serai is.
RD, why didn't you go ahead and bodyslam that girl for throwing things that were on fire at Serai? Or at least you could have told me at the show and I would have gladly done it...

JC has a tight SUV.
No offense JC, or RD,
But SUV's are not tight. I get bitter when i see people riding around in thier SUVs.....usually just one person in it.......joy riding around town..........there's really no reason to have one except for selfish image (i have alot of money) reasons......unless you live in the rocky mountains and have a giant family. Oh.....and then those people that dont see the irony of having a giant american flag hanging off the back of their SUV. Yes....this subject makes me bitter.
Oh God. Spare me, pal. I couldn't possibly care less about image. Would you rather I got a van? Or a big pickup truck? Because those are so much more economical. Do you also get bitter when someone is driving a brand new Porsche? Do they need to drive that?

Aren't there more important things in the world to get "bitter" about than what the guy next to you is driving?

A. I would never physically hurt a girl, though sometimes Carl really begs for it.

B. Since I only saw it once, I wasn't sure if it was an accident or intentional. I figured, at worst, they were trying to hit somebody that deserved it. But, they must have really bad aim, because I wasn't standing anywhere near Serai.

I do feel the need to say that I have to disagree a little. It's a bit wrong to over-generalize our public when it comes to people who choose to have an American flag on their vehicle, SUVs included. I assume that you are implying that these people are jaded. Sure, some of them could be. However, it is possible that some of these people are honest workers, just making a living, and they have pride in the country that they live in. They don't look at America in the same way that you seem to. Is that wrong? Not really, I like those people. They're typically very nice. I would prefer that you not take potshots at them and their intelligence, as you may perceive it. It makes you look jaded yourself. I don't mean to bother you and I'm sorry if I have pissed you off. I just felt the need to defend some people that I know. I think though, that you may not realize how encompassing your comments were. If I am right, I think you're talking about the type of people that I might see in a rap video. If those are the majority of whom you are referring, then I see your point. I just think you're accidentally calling out a lot of other people, JC included.

As for JC, there is no nicer, more down-to-earth person that I have met in my lifetime, only a couple of equals. And, I'm not exaggerating.

Wow,
ok i have alot to respond to here, lets see if I can sum it all up. First off, You have to understand where I come from. My father is an enviromentalist hippy teacher that has been featured in magazines such as Green Peace for building a "solar passive underground home" in the hills of WV. My sister is an environmental engineer that works for a company in wash. DC. I on the other hand am a RIM major. But have been taught many many ideas from my family.

OK, now, in response to the above quote. I think there actually are few things more important to get bitter over than killing our world and environment. This is the home of our children. Pollution is the MOST IMPORTANT problem of this world. Not getting to school or work on time, or looking good for a girl. Yes, there are reasons that people need big vehicles. But I see a vast majority of SUV owners driving it for other reasons than hauling large loads.

And no, I am very tolerant of other people being loyal to the US of A. I think it is ironic that people with large SUVs put huge american flags on thier oil guzzling vehicle. When over 80% of the oil being injected into their vehicle comes from places such as Iraq. We actually do have the resources to produce all the gasoline we need in Alaska. BUT it gets pumped back underground. It is not profitable to the large oil companies. A pipeline is in design but the large corporations are fighting it.

I do not however think that these people are bad people. I do not think they are jaded. I just think that alot of people are unwilling to take responsibility on a large scale for their actions. It has been brainwashed into our heads that its not our problem. Its ok to drive huge vehicles and its ok to not give a shit. But sooner or later someone will have to deal with these problems. It will be our children, or our childrens children. Thats the sad part. That we just accept what the media portrays to us, when the mass media is controlled by a small handful of rich white males.

In short. I am NOT trying to Degrade anyone on the board. I do NOT think that people driving SUVs are bastards or stupid or anything. Its really not their faults. Its a general unawareness of the problems.

I hope i summed it up. You can like what i have to say or not. But I said it.
Sorry.

On a lighter note...

I wish there were seperate parking lots for SUVs, trucks, vans, and the like.. Those of us that drive tiny, economical cars put them (our cars) at risk every time we try to back out of a space with these big vehicles on either side of us... We simply cannot see around their enormous tails.

AND other drivers wouldn't be tricked into thinking there is an empty space when there's really just a short car that's pulled up further than surrounding cars.

It just makes sense.

I don't feel like pulling up multiple quotes--

uglyapeman said beth rocks. After I saw them last, that was all I could say after the show. She rocks.

GSTP--the old Beetle makes you a person after my own heart. I have a quiet obsession with those old cars. I want to ressurrect mine soon...

SUVs--I personally don't care for them, and I esp agree with the spiel about the problems of sharing a parking lot with them (though they don't necessarily need separate lots), and I don't like driving anywhere in Franklin anymore because it is overrun with them. However, I don't have any personal problem with those who drive them, even before I knew JC has one.

Ive really made myself out to be the ass on this topic, but........i dont have any problems with the people, ive been trying to explain this. My best friend has a brand new Jeep Grand Cheroke, that he cant afford and puts over 60% of his earnings into car payments, He's still my best friend. Do I agree with it, no.......will i ever buy one....no........and i truly believe if more people were concerned about it, the world would be a better place.

I got nuthin but love for everyone.

But to tie it all up, I do not think an SUV is a "tight" ride.

And yes, sometimes i just like to argue and act like I know it all.

i dont like suvs, and i think they are unsafe. i hate that suvs have become the necessary family vehicle. but i hate bad drivers more. and, i hate adults. i havent been to one movie this year where a couple of adults didnt annoy me by whispering, talking, being hard of hearing and needing something to be repeated, or laughing at dumb shit. ive moved seats in 3 of the movies that ive seen this year, and it was never on account of annoying kids- it was always adults. too bad they cant hear me mocking them. so, if you are a deaf adult that poorly drives an suv and talks during movies and throws a fit in bread and company in your tennis skirt because they are out of yogurt to sustain your non-fat frozen mocha-a-day addiction because your husband is cheating on you because youre bitchier than his intelligent and successful coworker and your 8-year-old kid is more mature and polite than you: im going to ruin your life.

oh yeah, im still trying to turn nashville into a honking city. i could use some back-up.

and if you have a bumper sticker that says, "try jesus. if you dont like him, dont worry, satan will always take you back" im going to judge you. take that! pray for me, please.

SUVs are tight. If we were to cut down on petroleum use, we would be getting rid of more than you think. And all that bought the Double Outkast cd would have to return theirs or risk the democrats running stupid commercials about how they support terrorists. All while the people who "care" about the enviroment are driving around in limos and charter planes. I'm sure those planes are less efficient than, say, riding with everyone else. I like constistancy, and it sounds like your family is trying to be as consistent as possible, Grunge.

I also agree with drilling in Alaska, but--- I would not blame corporations for stopping that. The Dems have a strong eco vote. They're the ones stopping it in congress, but still complaining about how we're giving money indirectly to terrorists. Just politics.

Environmentalist Attacks Hit Suburbs
Suburbs Become Battle Lines; 'Save-the-Wilderness' Goes Anti-Capitalist
By SETH HETTENA and LAURA WIDES, AP

SAN DIEGO (Oct. 1) - A sabotage campaign by the nation's most radical environmental group has moved from the countryside to the doorstep of the nation's biggest cities.

The Earth Liberation Front, a movement that originated in the forests of the Pacific Northwest, has claimed responsibility for a string of arsons in the suburbs of Los Angeles, Detroit, San Diego and Philadelphia in the past 12 months. No one has been charged in any of the attacks.

The attacks, which included the costliest act of environmental sabotage in U.S. history, have targeted luxury homes and SUVs, the suburban status symbols that some environmentalists regard as despoilers of the Earth.

''Their actions used to be aimed at 'out in the country' industries,'' said Ron Arnold of the Bellevue, Wash.-based Center for the Defense of Free Enterprise, who has written several books criticizing the environmental movement's radical wing. ''Now they're are moving from a save-the-wilderness focus to an anti-capitalist focus.''

This summer, environmentalists in Southern California turned six-figure luxury homes under construction into charred sticks of wood, destroyed an unfinished 206-unit apartment complex and firebombed brand-new Hummers, the mammoth sport-utility vehicles that start at $50,000.

Rod Coronado, a legendary figure in the underground movement who is serving as an ELF spokesman and has drawn scrutiny from the FBI, said the group is being transformed by a new generation of activists...

...He said the young activists are ''doing the only thing they know to do and that is strike a match and draw a whole lot of attention to their dissatisfaction with protecting the environment.''

The ELF is the FBI's No. 1 domestic terrorism priority. The organization has done more than $100 million damage - but caused no deaths - since it split off from the radical environmental group Earth First! and surfaced in the United States five years ago.

The ELF first took aim at urban sprawl in 2000, when it burned luxury homes and condos under construction on New York's Long Island. But Phil Celestini, the agent in charge of the FBI's domestic terrorism operations unit in Washington, noted that the San Diego fires ''are taking places in more densely populated areas than in the past.''

On Aug. 1, a fire destroyed a five-story, 206-unit apartment complex under construction in San Diego's University City neighborhood.

The damage estimate of $50 million made it ''the single largest act of property destruction ever committed by one of these groups in the history of the country,'' Celestini said. ''It's sheer dumb luck and providence that someone has not been killed. You set a fire that big, there's no way of predicting what the ultimate consequences will be.''

In the wake of the attacks, other San Diego developers have installed security cameras and hire guards to keep an eye on properties around the clock, said Russ Valone, of the California Building Industry Association, which has offered a $25,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in the apartment complex arson.

''Let me tell you who the other victims of this are: You and me,'' Valone said. ''Our insurance pays a price. The more claims an insurance company put out, the more they more they have to raise their premiums. So, everybody in the city, everybody in the county, everybody in the country pays in some small way for the damage created by these maniacs.''

Guidelines posted on the ELF's Web site stress the need to take ''all necessary precautions against harming life.'' But the group's message has been mixed.

In a communique issued after a U.S. Forest Service research center in Pennsylvania was attacked last year, the ELF said: ''While innocent life will never be harmed in any action we undertake, where it is necessary, we will no longer hesitate to pick up the gun to implement justice.''

The ELF operates in a series of anonymous cells and uses the Internet to communicate and broadcast its message. But it has little organization, no fees and no membership list, frustrating FBI efforts to penetrate the group.

The recent case of an Oregon college student serving time in prison for a firebombing in 2001 opened a window into the ELF.

Jacob Sherman, a student at Portland State University, said he fell under the spell of Michael J. Scarpitti, known as Tre Arrow, a forest activist who is now the FBI's most-wanted ''eco-terrorist.''

According to court documents, Arrow ''groomed'' Sherman and slowly introduced him to radical protesting. Sherman stopped bathing, refused to wear shoes and began eating a strict vegan diet to imitate Arrow.

Sherman was no James Bond of the forest: His father called the FBI after his son drove home reeking of gasoline the night three logging company trucks were attacked. Sherman, 19 at the time, also blabbed to his girlfriend, who in turn told her father, a deputy state fire marshal, said Sherman's attorney, Andy Bates.

Authorities say Scarpitti, 29, has ties to California, Pennsylvania, Florida, Colorado, Ohio and Oregon. He is a suspect in at least one arson outside Oregon - the fire at the Forest Service research center in Pennsylvania.

In the San Diego attacks, the FBI has focused on Coronado, the ELF's self-described spokesman. Search warrants obtained by The Associated Press show FBI agents raided the homes of two local activists in a search for videotaped copies of a speech Coronado delivered in San Diego on Aug. 1 - the same day of the $50 million apartment arson.

Coronado has said he had nothing to do with the fire.

Mainstream environmental groups have taken pains to distance themselves from the ELF.

''The ELF are not environmentalists. They are arsonists,'' said Carl Pope, head of the Sierra Club.

However, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, whose members stormed a Victoria's Secret runway show last year, donated $1,500 to the ELF in 2001, according to the group's tax returns.

PETA said the money was used to send two people to Washington to testify at a congressional hearing on behalf of an ELF spokesman. PETA said the spokesman was being harassed by the FBI for speaking his mind.
