Best of the year lists are always popular and actually act as candid reviews for other people. I love to get an idea of what someone liked or didn't that I may or may not have heard yet. But what about the classics? You guys/gals may have done this and I have just missed it. If so, ignore me, I won't mind.
You are dropped on an island and have the ability to pick some albums/cds to take with you. You are all alone and no one will know what you have chosen, to listen to for all eternity on an uncharted desert isle...take as many or few as you can, it's your eternity.
My sad, tired old list,
In no particular order:
1. The New York Dolls, self titled 1st LP
2. The Features, Spongebath EP, nothing against Exhibit A, I LOVE IT, but have been back here a lot lately.
3. The Stooges, it's always 1969, o.k., all across the usa
4. Iggy Pop, 'The Idiot'
5. David Bowie, everything I could get but certainly, 'Heroes', 'Diamond Dogs', 'Scary Monsters'. God I love Bowie.
6. The Smiths, 1st album.
7. Morrissey, 'Viva Hate', if you don't know it please give it a listen.
8. Chumbawamba, 'Swinging With Raymond' and many more.
9. Gang of Four, 'Return The Gift', a great collection.
10. The White Stripes, 'White Blood Cells'
11. The Best of Leonard Cohen, any Leonard Cohen
12 + I just now realized I can't do this. Like Lou Reed says on Lou Reed Live, Take No prisoners, 1978, (another album I will need to take) "It's not that I don't want to play your favorites, it's just there are so many favorites to chose from. In Lou's case that is so true. Why did I not include The Velvet Underground featuring Nico produced by the amazing Andy Warhol???? Too many favorites..........
I loved The Kaiser Chiefs 'Employment' this year and wrote to Chumbawamba about them since they are also from Leeds, England. Boff was quite nice about them and gave me some background info on the nane involving football clubs, etc, oh I forgot, I don't care about sports. The Kaiser Chiefs are great and does no one like Louis XIV, from California?
What a long thread starter, maybe it explains why I never started a thread before.
Yes, I'll have the dada 2 go please with a side of anarchism.
mm mm bad
