I won't lie. If I happened across a trio of DC tix, HSS, IWE and myself would all be in attendance.

You know, I might go to it. I like Desitny's Child/Beyonce pretty well, but the main reason I would go is to support Powers Management actually booking a fucking concert in the GEC. I mean, it's like catching a glimpse of Halley's Fucking Comet. Take a look at the calendar on the GEC website. What a joke. Seven events in three months. Meanwhile our city is left with an $11 million operating deficit. Maybe if they see that the people of this city will support a good concert in the arena, they will book more.

If that's the reason, then you should see Green Day and Jimmy Eat World instead. I don't care what everyone says, those bands both put on great fucking shows.

If I could go for free, I'd go to either one of those shows, although Jimmy Eat World can still Jimmy Eat My Ass.
I TOTALLY AGREE!

Keith, you are destined to rock. Never forget this.

I don't think that's irony-- just a coincidence. Then again, what do I know-- I'm just a scientist.

I'm planning on going, as long as I'm in town. I'll only go if I can get very good seats. I don't want to hear a bunch of delayed destinies. The musicians should be amazing. I'm sure they play with a live band, right?

where did NIN come in from? i cant stand them. but i WOULD also enjoy seeing Jimmy Eat World/Green Day. I saw them a couple years with that same line up (along with Blink-182 whom i promptly walked out on) and they tore the place down. I dont see how you could be a Jimmy Eat World hater, Keith. Their pop sensibilities-while mainstream-are impecible.

Keith is just jealous.

It's too bad you left that show early, Blink-182 is also an amazing live band.

Thats really sweet...and a story you can tell her later when she'll understand the hell you went through to get her tickets to see destiny's child. the hell that is "hollah back girl" and nick carter's younger brother.

as far as blink-182 went, i stuck around for the third song and while it was definately fun to watch, the sound was horrible and the vocals were just sloppy. couldnt take it.

I really don't know what's wrong with the GEC and why they can't get more shows than they do. It being the summer though, Starwood is going to get the bulk of the big concerts coming through town. I've been working at the GEC over 2 years now and this last year has really hurt since there hasn't been hockey, but it'll be back this year.

If people in this town would actually pay to go to these shows though, they'd probably book more. They always end up having to give away tons of tickets just to fill the place.

Maybe it's time to 1) stop charging $60 for a ticket or 2) starting getting legitimate big-name acts like U2 or Paul McCartney. Getting Prince and Rolling Stones were definitely steps in the right direction, I think.

Also, knowing that tickets are frequently given away makes a lot of people much less likely to buy tickets to a show they kinda want to see.

everywhere else charges that much for a ticket. Why should the GEC be any cheaper?

From what I understand they did try to get Paul McCartney and U2 but it fell through of course.

I'll tell you why they can't get more shows - it's because Nashville has a reputation in the concert industry of being a bad turnout. Major tours that sell out in other cities are only 2/3 full in Nashville. We're a lazy-ass city who won't get off our asses and support anything. Take the Titans for example. You thought it was bad last year? Wait until we start 1-4 this year - that place will be half full.

I'd like to think it's because our local scene is so amazing that we're not easily impressed by mainstream bands. I'd rather see De Novo Dahl 10 times for $6 that see Green Day once for $60.

Well, this tour is Destiny's Child's swan song. They're splitting afterwards.

Bummer. Predictable. But a bummer.
