DND's version of pop music is not "dangerously destabilising" enough! Spread the word!

DND EP Review

I've read the thing like 10 times, and I still don't understand what the heck this guy is trying to say....but he likes Serai's fruit picture I guess.

It sounds like he's saying they're too good to be any good.
That's so NA.

Maybe it has something to do with how sales and reviews in 'pop' music has very little to do with actual musical talent, but relies heavily on themes, image, or gimics. DND lacking in all.

Interesting. I guess since I've seen them live so many times, maybe it's hard for me to separate De Novo Dahl on record from De Novo Dahl live. I think if you've seen them perform live, the last adjectives you'd use to describe them would be ones like "reserved," "conservative," or "inhibited." And I surely don't think that their music is sans sexual, emotional, or intellectual thrill. Quite the opposite is true! But maybe these things don't come across just listening to them on record. Like I said, I don't think I could make an objective judgement.

In any event, hip hip hooray for DND getting some international publicity!
Relevant: Prince, PT Anderson, Punk, Post-Punk, Purple, Party of Five, Peter Swanson, Peter Gabriel-led Genesis, "Peter Panic", Paul's Boutique, Potential Energy, Every Features MB member but me.

I wouldn't necessarily say they are lacking in the theme/image/gimic department. What about the pink outfits and the spaghetti western show? What about Joel & Carney's ever-changing entertaining hairstyles? Maybe they can be convinced to wear socks only. Do you think that would help?

Yes

I guess I was speaking more about gimics and original hooks within the actual music. (image can be portrayed through sound)
I too dont understand much of what that article really means.

I think it's pretty obvious. This guy thinks pop music should be dangerous because that's apparently the trend in his little pretentious world. From what he's heard, this does not describe DND. Instead, he sees them as attractive, wholesome, polished, talented, and subvertly Christian. They don't fit his mold for what a pop band should be, so he doesn't like it.

That, and he's a douchebag.

Maybe it's a good thing that he hasn't seen them...or the skirt.

Compared to the reviews of the Features that I've read, this one doesn't sound that bad at all. There are definitely some good comments in this review, particularly considering that the band hasn't been around for very long. This could be a lot a worse.

Maybe if they didn't suck so badly. All DND is is one big gimic.

And the sock thing wouldn't work; the drummer's a hermapholite.

how is that different from a hermaphrodite? tongue.gif

I obviously meant for the band to wear the socks on their FEET. I mean, how else would Serai wear them?
