I've just heard the new album by the white stripes, there's a lot more er....percussion? A lot less rock but still a decent album to listen to.

The single didn't really blow me away, but I'm excited about seeing them for the first show after their release (and the only US show scheduled so far) at Music Midtown.

My fave song right now is either Instinct Blues or Red Rain.

Pretty disappointing. My theory is that Jack and Meg got sick of being popular, so they released this album. This is the kind of album that only a band as huge as the White Stripes could even imagine releasing. Not to say it's terrible, it just isn't anything all that interesting. I'm sure everyone is talking about how they're exploring different avenues and all that bullshit, but I'm just not into it. I thought their underhyped approach was just a cute gimmick, but it fits well with the record. I hope they play a good amount of the old stuff on friday. If not, I might consider seeing Counting Crows instead...

At least the new Coldplay album is amazing.

i guess after elephant it was bound to be dissappointing, but I still expected more. there are only a few songs i bother listening to, and most of them i skip over half way into because they are so repetitive. every song is just one hook over and over. im a little annoyed by the whole thing, but i guess that's the way the cookie crumbles.
thank you for being a friend.

The Counting Crows are an amazing live band. Well, at least they were...I haven't seen them in a few years.

I'm looking forward to hearing the new Coldplay, although I'd imagine it too will be a letdown after their brilliant last record.

Has anyone heard the new DMB album? TERRIBLE! Ten times worse than anything else they've put out. The single is by far the best song, and it's not even very good.

I don't know, I saw them play with The Wallflowers and that dog. many years ago at Starwood. They fucked around with their arrangements so much that they were unrecognizable. In fact, their best response came when they played Angels of the Silences the second time-- the right way. I always knew that Mr. Jones was that way, but it was the whole frigging set that night. I'm still a little annoyed.

Of course, I'm also still annoyed at the White Stripes for never rescheduling the Ryman show that Sina, BrianW and I had floor seats for.

Me too. I was waaaaay more excited to see them then (was it two summers ago?) than I am to see them Friday.

That's not to say I'm not excited to see them Friday; I of course am.

I bought the new album yesterday and have listened to it about twice through. I think the new material is pleasant enough, but it does not even hold a candle to the material on White Blood Cells, De Stijl, or even Elephant. My favorite tracks right now are The Nurse and Denial Twist. That one Meg sings about listening to mothers or brothers or whatever is kind of cute too...she just can't really sing very well.

I actually like "Get Behind Me Satan" more than "X&Y" as of now. I listened to "X&Y" for a second time today and I think it'll be a grower. It's just weird listening to Coldplay where every song is 5 minutes long after growing accustomed to the 2 minute blasts of most current songs.

I like almost all the songs on "Get Behind Me Satan" and I like that they are exploring new areas huh.gif . I just don't know how they'll play any of these songs live without help. Most of them feature drums, guitar, piano, shakers, tambourines, bells, Meg doesn't have that many arms. My favorite songs so far are "My Doorbell," "Little Ghost," and "Denial Twist."

Of course, both of these albums don't even compare to "Don't Believe The Truth," Oasis' best album since "Morning Glory," and this coming from someone who really loves "SOTSOG."

Those are strong words, D. I had sworn off the Gallaghers after that last steaming pile of shit they released. Should I really take a chance on them again? Don't lead me astray, Digsy. How many of the songs did Liam write?

Everyting that Oasis have said in interviews is just cocky crap. They are unbelievably overrated.

The Female singer had a towel to spit on but she kept missing and hit all of us at the barrier.....you have no idea how degrading that feels.

The stuff from Get Behind Me, Satan sounds much better live. Meg's song still sounded like shit when she sang it, but Jack's reprise was rockin'.

He wrote three ("Love Like A Bomb," "Meaning Of Soul" and "Guess God Thinks I'm Abel"). They are all a million times better than their laughable titles.

The album as a whole is more melodic and acoustic while still being rock and roll. It sounds like Oasis ripping off the Kinks instead of the Beatles, which is okay by me. The album sounds like it was made by a band and flows incredibly well. It's a solid listen throughout. "Heathen Chemistry" sounded like Oasis trying to write the songs they thought they should be writing instead of making a new album. While "Don't Believe The Truth" doesn't do anything spectacular in terms of exploration (since it doesn't), it is a more satisfying listen.

If you want, I can burn you a copy and give it to you on Sunday. I don't want anyone's money spending depending on my word.
