I know Gumption has been more or less a thing of mystery due to their album's plans fizzing out circa The Features' self-titled EP, and their disappearance thereafter. However, I was on allmusic and happened to stumble across their small discography. Apparently, they released a single on Spongebath and went on to release an EP on Serious Records in 2000. Check it out...

It does list Spongebath as the label for the 1996 single, and it fits in in the timeline, so it's safe to assume that these are one and the same with the band that some of you saw on the Spongebath postcard sent out prior to The Features EP's release. Now if only someone could locate either of these recordings...
EDIT: Additionally, as I seemed to have overlooked earlier, they appeared on two compilations in 1998 and 1999, licensing a different song to each. The 1999 one is still available at barnesandnoble.com, and I listened to the crappy-quality 30 second clip. Sounds like they could be decent...
