it's possible i could use a bassist--i've already spoken to the lawn wrangler about being involved, but i don't know whether he wanted to play bass or keys...
ok, well, just to clarify, here is what i am looking for:
i would prefer people who can play some sort of reasonably fashionable instrument relatively well. of course, if there is a bernard butler out there, a musical visionary with a wealth of genius and talent, that would be ok, too. some things are, however, more important than ability.
as a songwriter, i suppose i'm most influenced by : jeff tweedy, elliott smith, bob dylan, stuart murdoch...and a great many others. the sound i aspire to is very britpop (think longpigs, the autuers, radiohead) but with a lot of instrumentation--i like the idea of there being guitars, keys, synths, bass, drums, glockenspiel, xylaphone, cello, laptops, whatever...lots of people doing lots of things and singing backups as well...i was thinking 10-12 people (and hopefully some of whom could play more than one instrument, thereby reducing the number of people necessary) oh, yeah, and i'd like some girls in the band.
i'm also very interested in prog, and not in the dirtier sense of the word, but more like the mars volta or muse kind of prog-rock...ideally i'd like to find a real musically-gifted mind to help me create this kind of mish-mash--taking the britpoppy melodies and literary-minded songs, marrying them to the multi-instrumental histrionics, and then channelling all of that into adventurous and ambitious song-structures, chord sequences, and a generally pretentious artsy clatter.
i just want to see what people make of the concept--does anyone else like the sound of that?
