TOPIC: IBL vs. DND
Posted  Tuesday, April 20, 2004 at 2:37 PM
Post 1 of 30
The one thing that sucks about having so many amazing local bands is that sometimes some of the best play different shows on the same night. Friday is no exception:

Blue Sky Court: Imaginary Baseball League, Aireline, and The Whole Fantastic World

Exit/In: De Novo Dahl, International Orange, Hot Pipes, and January Taxi

Which one will you be attending?

I've said before, I'm debating. I love DND, and would like to see the Hot Pipes. IBL is just a dollar, but I really don't care that much for Aireline. A lot of people I know will be at IBL, though. Someone please tell me what to do!
That's so NA.

I'm sure avalanche and ghostflower can fill you in on that one...

Hot Pipes are great. I think the most frquent comparison has been to Guided By Voices and associated Ohio-based rock bands. I think their strongest point is their very charismatic lead singer.

Nice moderating. BrianW is my hero. Again, unfortunately I'll be out of town so I won't have to choose. Hey PeaceFrog- in which direction did Hot Pipes tip the scale smile.gif ?

**edit** my bad. As usual, I give BrianW too much credit. I thought he put in a filter that would make some word get replaced by "Carl Sucks." Apparently SuperElk did it on purpose and it wasn't the work of our beloved moderator.

I TOTALLY AGREE!

Keith, you are destined to rock. Never forget this.

I'm going to IBL...haven't seen them in a while. I don't want to see DND again for at least a few more months. Plus, I'd like to see The Whole Fantastic World...very promising band from what I've heard. Hear Them.

I would definitely be going to the De Novo Dahl show if I were going to be in town. I like IBL well enough, but it's not really Friday night music, is it? I can't wait to see the Dahl again. But me and my grandpa will be gone away, busy looking for good creeks to fish in, reading every single roadside historical marker that we see and eating lots of country ham all weekend long. So my Saturday night will probably be spent smoking Swisher Sweets and watching the Braves game, unless there are some catfish to be caught this early in the year.

so the only place where you can buy mutliple "Carl In Make-up" tickets in advance is the Box Office. i think i might go ahead and do that but i have a question.
How does one go about buying tickets at the box office? do you have to do it the night of the show?

For the record, I'll be going to the IBL show. Not because it's only $1, but because I've been waiting for that full-length for so damn long. I've heard two of the songs already and I'm really stoked about hearing the rest of it. As much as I love DND (as a band and as individuals), I've missed a lot of opportunities to see the League and I've been planning on seeing this one for weeks now. I have every intention of seeing them together in a few weeks, too.

In my opinion, you can't lose with either show.

I would more than likely take that weekend over both shows. Hopefully I can pick your brain if you find any good spots.

Even with technical difficulties, IBL played an amazing set last night. The ones I'd enjoyed in the past were just as good as ever and the songs that were new to me were fucking amazing. Especially the one with the guest drummer and guest backup singer. I really enjoyed the sound at Blue Sky Court, though it was pretty damn crowded. However, they opened up the doors to an outside area which opened up the standing room a bit more. I can't decide if Blue Sky Court is a venue that I enjoy or if it's just a weird place. I think it would be better suited as just a place to go hang out and drink as opposed to a music venue, but then, they probably know better.

I've always felt the samy way. The sound is great there, but something always feels left of right at that venue, and I can't say why.

You also raised an interesting question. If all the places I frequent for music were only places for hanging out, I don't know which would be my favorite. The more restaurant parts of Wall Street and 12th & Porter are really cool. I still love the Boro, and I would go there just to hang out. Ditto for Exit/In. I can't say that so much for Blue Sky.

Staying true to form as of late, we missed both shows. O summer, when will you get here?

See, I can hang out at Wall Street or 12th & Porter, no problem. But if I were to have a 'Cheers' it'd be more like The Boro. I can't say I'd hang out at Exit/In. I'd honestly have to see Blue Sky Court on a night when there were no live music to make a true decision.

I have to say that my favourite place to drink is Campus Pub.

Blue Sky Court has awesome sound! That sound guy really knows what he's doing, unlike most other sound guys. That was probably the best sounding show i've been to in nashville/murfreesboro.
