I don't know how many of you have been touched by Sam Beam's absolutely magnificent songwriting in the same way that I have, but if you have yet to hear The Creek Drank the Cradle, The Sea and the Rhythm ep, of Our Endless Numbered Days, you should definitely give this a listen.

and while I am at it, check out some Norfolk and Western, who I have only recently discovered, there are some tracks on the music page. "Terrified" is one helluva song.

Sometime's I'm thinking that I love you, but I know it's only lust.

i keep hearing about it...i caught one song on wrvu, but it didn't impress me enough to go out and buy it. it was possibly religiously-themed (?), but i can't remember what it was called. everybody says nick drake this and elliott smith that when talking about it, and those are pretty big shoes for anyone to fill...but i'm convinced it must be incredibly good for people to make those type of comparisons. i tried to find some of it to listen to online, but i couldn't find anything...

My pal plays drums for them & I really like their music. It's very quiet & unassuming & atmospheric, but there is something powerful about its simplicity. The lyrics are also pretty good. I liked them more after seeing them live, but I know some people that were bored at their show. No one making music today compares to Elliott Smith, but I'll grant you the Nick Drake comparison- Sam's songs make me feel that same way.

I agree with everything that Lauren has said. I saw them in Atlanta after only hearing The Sea and The Rhythm Ep and was very impressed. The whole audience is so quiet and the hardcore fans shush you if you get too loud. It was a different concert experiece.

he looks like he just got discharged from the confederate army or something, from the pictures i've seen...usually i like shows to be pretty rocking, but i have enjoyed low when i've seen them and that elliott smith show at the now-defunct 328 with the power out was extraordinary. i would have to hear more of the stuff before seeing it live or i would probably be the one either getting shushed or falling asleep. anyone else not like the name iron & wine?
