Isn't he in A Perfect Circle now? That seems like a radically differection than the stuff he wrote, which I never ever liked.
That's so NA.

Do you mean the stuff he wrote for the pumpkins, or his solo stuff?

I liked his songs. The solo album was a bit cheesy, but I still liked it.

The Pumpkins stuff was so unbearable, I didn't go near the album. Way too....I don't know, I think you nailed it with cheesy.

I liked his pumpkins songs. He didn't write that many that made it onto albums though. The solo album isn't that scary though. I like the pumpkins way too much though to ever really find anything unbearable. The only thing I thought was bad, was D'arcy's singing voice. Jesus she couldn't sing at all.

Word. I mean, Billy is obviously not a great singer, but at least he didn't pretend to be. I haven't listened to a Smashing Pumpkins album in forever...I need to bust out some Siamese Dream.

Yeah, of course Billy can't sing that great, but his voice went along well with the songs. If that makes sense?

I still listen to them quite often. Siamese Dream is an album I'll never get tired of.

Iha's a mixed bag for me. Actually, within a single recording session. His song on Twilight to Starlight, Take Me Down, if I remember correctly, is my least favorite Pumpkins song.

His material on The Aeroplane Flies High, culled from the same sessions, especially ...Said Sadly, The Boy, and Believe, are perhaps my favorite songs on the box set.

His solo album never really spoke to me somehow.

True that. They got me through middle and high school. Fitting that I was in Chicago for my freshman year of college when they broke up and I got to go to the last United Center show. Bliss it was.

Bands should always break up in an orderly fashion, with a "last tour" tour and a round of "last shows" shows. The Pumpkins went out with setlists that really provided closure for the fans, which was nice.

I thought it was great that they did a farewell tour and the last shows at the united center and the metro. It really sucked that I never got to go to any of the last shows though. I saw them about 2 weeks before they announced the breakup though, and also saw them at the opry in 98. I guess I'm lucky for that.

I really do miss the music that they made. I don't think anyone else is ever going to make music that means that much to me ever again. However, if they got back together, it wouldn't be the same. It's just kinda like Zwan... of course it was Billy, but I just didn't like it a whole lot.

i dont think a reunion would alter the music that much. in fact, i think a lot of Zwan's music was just Smashing Pumpkin Lite. "Desire" was melancholy and "Ride The Black Swan" was Machina. "Jesus I" was also very pumpkins-esque.
and dont forget Jimmy was part of Zwan too. His presence in the band was a huge part to their greatness.

I guess, but it would have been nicer if they had rocked out just a little bit. That's the only time I saw them. I caught on right after they came to Vandy in 93 or 94.

No, it wouldn't alter the music much, but I'd have to question the motives behind a reunion.

I did like Zwan, and there were songs on there that caught my attention like a few of the pumpkins songs. It still didn't really do it for me though. Their live show was great though. I'd almost have to say it was better than the pumpkins, but I dunno about that.

Yes, I didn't forget that Jimmy had a part in Zwan. But come on, it's Billy that wrote the songs.

if the Zwan record was a smashing pumpkins record, everyone would have been extremely upset. if that was the direction billy was going musically, then it was fitting for the pumpkins to break up and a new band form out of its ashes.

I saw them twice. The last United Center show, and my first concert ever: Mellon Collie tour, November 20, 1996: Municipal Auditorium.

I wasn't too excited about Zwan.. at first I was but then after I heard most of the songs I just would rather listen to old Pumpkin CD's..

I agree, but only because it was just too good to top. I still think the next two (three?) were great and Machina was alright.
