I know a few people on this board live in Johnson City. I am trying to get my band from Richmond, VA to Murfreesboro/Nashville some weekend in the next semester. A stop in Johnson City would split up the driving into two 5-hour days. Are there any places to play there? Is there any sort of scene? Any bands to play with? PM me with any info and thanks in advance!

Joe Baine Colvert (aka thelawnwrangler) would definitely be the one to talk to. He was Johnson City's music scene all by himself for the last two years. But unfortunately, he's overseas for about three more weeks. You can e-mail him at: joebainecolvert@yahoo.com. He may or may not get back to you before he returns, but in any case, I'm sure he'll be glad to help.

Off the top of my head, Johnson City has:

the Hideaway
the Sophisticated Otter
Vito's

If Johnson City doesn't work out, I'm sure you could easily get something in Knoxville or Asheville, which definitely have music scenes with more of a pulse.
Relevant: Prince, PT Anderson, Punk, Post-Punk, Purple, Party of Five, Peter Swanson, Peter Gabriel-led Genesis, "Peter Panic", Paul's Boutique, Potential Energy, Every Features MB member but me.

Funny, that looks a lot like my rules of dating-- except that I ask the opposite for the first one.
