Sadie's current member title started me wondering: Do other people hate MM? I pretty much love him. I used to think it was tongue-in-cheek, and then I started leaving his songs on when they came on the radio, and then I left a party early to go see him play for free in Nashville a few years back. How can you hate such a sincere and furry old man?

Back in April, I ventured out to my local batting cage to take some BP in case the Mets were to call. Who is in the cage beside me taking some softball cuts? Mr. Michael McDonald. I asked him if he was indeed Michael McDonald and he confirmed it. We chatted ball and shoved tokens into the cages. Pretty cool.

The whole time I was taking cuts I kept running the Christopher Cross song, "Ride Like the Wind" thru my head. Bizarre.

Was that free show you went to the one with Kenny Loggins? That show was soooo freakin' fun!
Michael McDonald's voice is amazing.

YES- while there was all that construction for the roundabout! I couldn't believe how gay Kenny Loggins was (literally, not the slang usage) and how I never knew that. Loggins sucked, McDonald RULED!

I have to admit I was a little serenaded by his voice on those MCI commercials

You must choose. It is like that movie "Sofie's Choice" only it is Nathan's choice. Do you know that movie, "Sofie's Choice"? It is like that. Only it is this.

I would call him slightly underrated. He had some great songs with the Doobies, ESPECIALLY "It Keeps You Runnin'" which is straightup dope.

Concerning his newest "Motown" project: it's irrelevant. I do agree with him that Motown is awesome, but I don't think that the world today needs an aging white man singing all of those old songs. I mean, was he trying to "reinterpret" those songs? The arrangements, etc don't sound very different from the originals. Did he think he was going to improve upon the songs?

The bottom line is that his voice (The Husky Baritone) is one that gets on alot of people's nerves. File it right between Geddy Lee and Stevie Nicks.

"It Keeps You Runnin" is good, but the Doobie Bros. were less cool with him in control. To be fair, though, I have to give "Skunk" Baxter some of that blame, too. I guess they'd been hanging around Becker/Fagan too much.
We'll miss you Mr. Hooper.

I know. I try to sneak them in during my radio show every now and again. I played "My Old School" a few weeks ago.
We'll miss you Mr. Hooper.

I have a soft spot in my heart for Steely Dan. I really want to listen to "Kid Charlemagne" all of a sudden.

i'll confess that other than the MCI commercial, the name michael mcdonald
doesn't mean a thing to me. i have no idea who he is/was, so i voted that i "hated him & wanted him to die" based solely on his appearance on said commercial...only because there was no category "don't know who the hell this man is and don't care" or "hey grandad, get off the stage!"

I hate him, and I want him to die.

Well, I don't really want him to die, but I do hate him.
But what will happen to the boy when the circus comes to town?

the best thing that mr. mcdonald did was his work with steely dan (and that's only because of my extreme fondness for steely dan, not for mr. mcdonald himself). i hate the doobie brothers as well as mcdonald's solo career.

Goddamn JC that is so funny. First of all that is a very obscure nuance of my personality. If there was any doubt that we are best friends it is erased now. :-). I mean I don't know how you remembered that I say that cos I haven't said it in awhile......

Until today! I was telling someone how fucking stoned I got at a party on Saturday and I think i used that line somewhere in the midst of the story as a comedic device. And it occured to me that I haven't used it in a long time. And I remembered how much I liked it--my favorite Steely Dan line even though i'm not a big fan.

It just reminds me of how I'd be at some party every night during my senior year of high school (yes, even weeknights) and wherever the dope smoking was going down, (back porch, garage, bathroom, upstairs bedroom....) i'd be in the middle of it. Probably the instigator. But it was really the girls at the party and all the drama of being in love that was really on my mind. Man those were great times.
