Hang in there bank account.

Any idea on ticket prices yet? The only info I see so far is the performance date, being Oct. 19.

Looks like I won'te be making this show because I will be returning from New York late that night. I am going to try my hardest to make it to the Atlanta show on the following Friday. It's at the Tabernacle which means general admission and extreme craziness. If anyone wants to make the trip, I am extended an offer.

Someone at the Ryman is doing something right.

I'd really like to go to this. At one point, I was excited about the Pixies, but now with R.E.M. and Moz on the horizon, who are the Pixies?

Morrissey and REM would be cool to see at the Ryman, but The Pixies are more of a Municipal Auditorium act!

i saw him when he came through ATL in 97 or 98...he played The Fox & it was fucking AMAZING. & he played a bunch of Smiths songs & some great little gems like "Last of the Famous International Playboys" & "Shoplifters..."...ahhhh....

so i am going to try to hit The Tabernacle (obviously), The Ryman, & one or both of the NYC shows since since i was planning a trip up to NYC anyway this fall...if i can manage to schedule it around those shows, i am there. & i can explain it all away as a birthday gift to myself. now if work & the bank account will just work with me, i will be set!

i got two tickets this morning via the presale. now i'm kind of wondering what kind of tickets they sell for the presell. i paid out the nose for them and all the ticket said was rsvd...which i assume means reserved...but then when i printed it out, it said section 11, balcony row B, seats 3 & 4. are these somehow really preferable seats or did i get screwed?

Yeah, those look to be pretty fucking prime. They're in the balcony, but I've always said that unless you're at the very front on the main floor, the balcony is the better place to be at the Ryman.

See for yourself.

Man, I really dislike Morrissey.
You should include that you don't have a particularly good reason for disliking him.
We'll miss you Mr. Hooper.

I got a pair of tickets, too. I'm already excited. And this will give me an excuse to buy those Morrissey albums that I've never heard - like everything since Maladjusted, for example.

if i'm not mistaken, the only thing since Maladjusted has been You Are the Quarry...i have Maladjusted, and while it has it's moments (the title track, for one) it's a pretty lacklustre affair. steer well clear of it, unless you find it at a bargain. i confess that the first that i haven't bought is You Are the Quarry...i suppose i should now, but...

I wonder if there's a way that we could all share the front row seats. I would be willing to give up my spot for a song or two if you or you sister would want to sit up front. We'll discuss it, smee.

Well, tonight was my first time to see Morrissey in concert, and I was very impressed. I didn't keep track of the setlist, but the formula was as follows:

OLD SONG
NEW SONG
OLD SONG
NEW SONG
OLD SONG
NEW SONG
etc, etc, etc

I wish he'd played more older material, but hey, he did play some Smiths songs, so I can't really complain. Other thoughts:

-I was embarassed and somewhat surprised to see so many empty seats. Are there really not enough Morrissey/Smiths fans in Nashville to fill the Ryman? I mean, it's not like this is someone who plays here every couple of years. This was the first time (and probably the only time) he will play Nashville, yet the balcony was only 2/3 full. Oh well. I guess it's always been that way.

-What a charismatic showman Morrissey is! And so engaging. I felt like I was seeing Dino or Sinatra.

-It was a great band that Morrissey had. It was nice to see what Boz Boorman looks like.

-Very cool stage design, too.

-The ending of the show was one of the most bizarre things I've ever seen. Towards the end of the show, there were a couple of different guys from the audience who climbed up on stage to try to hug/kiss Morrissey before being dragged off by security. Although it was amusing, I didn't think much of it. Well, in the first song of the encore, another guy did the same, but this time it turned into chaos as no less than a dozen people (all males, as far as I could tell) climbed up onstage to try to touch Morrissey. It was apparently more than security could handle, so they just whisked Morrissey offstage, and that was it. House lights up, show over. Thanks, fanboys. Anyway, my friend told me that this is common at Morrissey shows and that the other show he'd been to in Atlanta ended the same way. In fact, he told me, another of our friends who was there and had been sitting with him knew from experience that as soon as the first person got on stage, it was the beginning of the end, so he went ahead and left! Unbelievable! I've never seen anything like it before.

Great gig indeed. The Mozzer put on a hell of a show that's for sure. And man, what a bad ass lighting rig he had. Giant letters lined with red light reading Morrissey...hilarious.

I'm in no way familiar with Morrissey's solo stuff but the Smith's songs he did play were:

How Soon Is Now? (opener)
Big Mouth Strikes Again
Shoplifters of the World Unite
Last Night I Dreamt that Someone Loved Me
There Is A Light That Never Goes Out

well...at least the first line of the last one. As JC said about 15 people rushed Moz and was escorted off and the lights came up. I kinda expected the huggers but shit...I would have liked to have heard that song. Oh well. If you think the whole hugging thing is a bit odd, be glad that people weren't tossing/giving gladiolas to him. He apparently likes gladiolas so fans bring em to shows and give em up.
Be still Cody! Be still!!!

Why is it I always get notified of concerts too late...I wanted to see this him! Damn it!
What were you thinking when you saw the light?
Were you surprised to find the world outside?
I felt so sorry for your little head
Was it depressing to just lay in bed?

This was definately my favorite show of the year. It was wonderful- the setlist, the lighting, Moz taking off his shirt, and the crazy fans. I was prepared for people to rush the stage and try to hug/tackel him (watch any Morrissey solo video such as Live in Dallas). I was not aware of the fact that he would stop the song. I still left happy despite the abrupt ending. My love of Morrissey is even deeper now.

the setlist is as follows:
How Soon Is Now? / First Of The Gang To Die / November Spawned A Monster / I Like You / Bigmouth Strikes Again / How Can Anybody Possibly Know How I Feel? /I'm Not Sorry /Such A Little Thing Makes Such A Big Difference / Subway Train (into) Everyday Is Like Sunday / Shoplifters Of The World Unite /Irish Blood, English Heart / Let Me Kiss You / The World Is Full Of Crashing Bores / Last Night I Dreamt
That Somebody Loved Me / I Have Forgiven Jesus / The More You Ignore Me, The Closer I Get / You Know I Couldn't Last // There Is A Light That Never Goes Out (encore

Right after "You Know I Couldn't Last" came "I'm Not Sorry." That was the last song of the set.
