Go to Slack's myspace page right now to see the new video for "End of the World" (the song featured on the new Split 7" w/ The Features). You can find the link to "videos" directly under their profile picture.

The video was directed by our very own Peace Frog-- the acclaimed director of various Features, Jetpack, and Verde videos.

Pretty cool, but I thought it was going to involve them shooting guns!
I TOTALLY AGREE!

So, once again the curse of Peace Frog reveals itself and he breaks up yet another perfectly awesome band. Thanks a lot, Chad.

But seriously, Slack was definitely one of my favorite local bands ever and I'm pretty bummed they are no more. I could go into more detail and get super mushy, but I'll save that for a non-features message board discussion.

This is the first I've heard of this... really?

According to Ben's blog, Slack is no more, but I'm not entirely convinced this isn't a joke.

In PeaceFrog's defense, his videos have been known to have the opposite effect, too. When he filmed the video for "Mathematics", David and Brian weren't official members of Jetpack yet.

I guess I'm some sort of fission material... busting apart and joining together... even knocking an odd proton out of an atom.

I would argue that this supports my case, if anything.

Actually, when Brian officially joined Jetpack, it set in motion the breakup of another band he was in at the time, so...

I remember Slack always alluding to "big news announcements" and all sorts of cool stuff for their next show, only to be like "haha...it was a joke!" when the time actually came. I highly doubt they've actually broken up...and if so, then this speculation over what might be an honest break-up is just a lovely example of that whole "little boy who cried wolf" thing. I still think it's bull, though...the fact that Chris is already telling people to "find out if it's true" at the Christmas show he's putting together makes it all the more dubious.

If you look closely at the flyer, it says that it will feature members of Slack, Pink Spiders, Privates, etc. Chris will be there (as he put it together), but Ben has stated he will not be there.

Since Ben posted his bulletin/blog, the Slack site has been updated. Ben assured me he was serious.

Huh. Didn't see that blog...interesting.

If Ben's for real (and I have no reason to believe he's not, because if he isn't that's the lamest publicity copout of all time), then I guess Slack could theoretically continue with a new bassist, since Ben really wasn't an original member to begin with (I have an old Slack cassingle that has a guy named "Todd" listed for bass). I think with their last record getting fucked up with label redtape and whatnot, it'd be kind of dumb to recruit a new member and carry on, but it could happen. Definitely seems like the end, though.

I don't think Chris and Nick will be playing together anymore either. From what I've heard, all three of them are going in different directions musically.

Of course, breaking up and reforming might be a good way to get out of contractual obligations...
