Where do you 'Boro-ers do your tune shopping? Do you travel to Nashville? If so, where do you shop? Amazon, i-Tunes, eBay? Inquiring minds want to know.

Sadly, I get most of my CDs from Target or the used pile at Hastings. Mostly I just burn from friends or use iTunes.

I buy everywhere. If I am in a good mood I will got to Digital Planet on Lytle Street and let Jim hassel me (there's also one by the mall which Jim does not work at). Hastings is okay and they have used cds for $5.99. If I am looking for something new Cats Music is the best bet. I have found some really good stuff there and they will order just about anything for you. Hope that helps!

Man that guy cracks me up. I don't think he ever remembers anyone. I've been there tons of times. I always go to the little local section up front, so he always asks me if I'm in a band. Then we always get into a 10 minute conversation about Spongebath, where he shows me all of his old "collectibles". I've always been pretty sure that I could walk out, then walk back in 10 minutes later and repeat everything exactly. He always said Mike came in there a lot to buy/sell Self stuff as well.

The other DP has more selection, but no Local Only section as I recall. However, they do carry local music.

Cats is ok, and Target is always best for mainstream. I usually opt to various places on the internet for the best deals though.

When I lived in Nashville, I would always go to Grimey's or Off 12th. I would always go to Murfreesboro for shows, but I never heard about a good record store down there. I remember the Red Rose having a few records, but it closed down. What's Digital Planet like? Sounds as lame as the Sound Shack.

Digital Planet is like any other used cd store- you can find some really good stuff if you're willing to look through a bunch of crap. I used to love looking through all the old tapes at the one on Lytle St. I found some really rare stuff that has only been issued on cassette. Most people wouldn't give a shit about tapes though but it's a big plus for me.

I heard through the grapevine that Murfreesboro will be getting a new record store on the square. It sounds like it has potential.

hastings is the most reliable place to find good used records. the last time i went i found a used copy of "second edition" by public image limited for only $4.99. however, my main problem is the i find used copies of records that i already have all the time (example: "second edition").

the digital planet that is behind the mall in murfreesboro is better than the one on the square (however, they do not sell cassettes there). i've found many excellent records there (b-52's first and second albums, the walker brothers, randy newman, etc. etc.). also, you dont have to deal with jim.

and there is going to be a record store opening on the square.....

the best place to find records as of late though: the great escape in nashville has had an abundance of really good used records for the past two weeks...

I forgot about Media Rerun (near Murfreesboro's newest Wal-Mart on the MTSU side of town) and the two weeks where they were pure gold. I'll let HaveSomeSoma and IWantElvis elaborate if they wish, but I have to say that that place was amazing until it got picked over.

But if you're down with some Barbra Streisand, that's you're place.

yesterday i got stereolab's "transient random noise bursts with announcements" for $8 at the digital planet behind the mall. i also found some pretty good used cds at cat's. that places is way less expensive than i remembered it. hasting's (which is usually my favorite) was a bust. the one good trip to media rerun was amazing. i got too many good records to mention. now it's all color me barbara.

everything is hidden at that store. the workers suck at doing their job. nothing is in order. it's a big mess. that's the main reason i hardly ever go there.

i'm pretty curious as well. if anything, when's it going to open?

cat's has pretty decent stuff at mostly good prices. media rerun is nice if you want to sell some cds as they'll take ANYTHING in any kind of shape. how much $$ you get back is questionable... you can get store credit out the ass though. (if you can find anything worth spending it on. occasionally there'll be some decent-ish vinyl). cats seems to give the most back, but they're pretty picky.

jim at digital planet makes me laugh... i went to that damn place he always tells you about if you even glance at the records, and figures... didn't have what i needed (a 45 adapter! how hard is that.)

i just got the new sigur ros record at cats, actually, and it is mighty good.

(edit) never mind, found out about the new record store. Look for it around the beginning of October, droog.

yeah, it takes me an entire minute to type 'get a life,' dumbass. ohmygod 28 hours over a 4 year period is so insane!

thanks for being scary and internet stalking me. especially since it's taking time out of your day that you spend sitting around anticipating the opening of a record shop and peeing on yourself over the excitement.

it's not that i'm anticipating a store opening. i was planning on opening one, myself. i live in memphis, so i needed to find out from people in murfreesboro what the competition is like.

as for the "stalking"... i wasn't trying to be mean, and i apologize. i assumed that your "get a life" was a joke, so i was just playing along. if i thought i was being hurtful, then i wouldn't have responded like i did.

you're planning on opening a store in memphis or murfreesboro? cos i wouldn't bother competing against shangri la.

murfreesboro. shangri-la is alright, but is overpriced and they don't carry many new cd's or vinyl. goner is another good store in memphis, but they market to the angry suburban garage punker kid. they have a deal where, if you get a goner tattoo, you get free goner label releases for life. it seems the boro is ripe for the picking, but it looks like i'm not the only one who thinks so.

Yes the Boro is ripe for a good record store....perhaps more than 1. it also is ripe for a good live music venue. (hint...hint)

Anyway, here is the lowdown on the new record store.

Alex Norfleet and Lynn Weaver are opening a small record shop @ 128 1/2 N. Church St.. It is on the corner of Church and College above the Flower Center and Sisco's Beauty Salon. The Building will also be home to Alex's awesome recording studio and Chuck, Monique and Bingham's Silkscreen Studio. We are calling everything Grand Palace. Grand Palace Studios will open when the new super old mixing console arrives. The Studio is analog only at the moment...1" 16 track. Grand Palace Silkscreen is operational and ready to print shirts-posters-and everything else you can imagine. Grand Palace Records will softly open on Oct. 8th.
We are planning a Grand Opening party on Oct. 29th. with music provided by DJ Bawston Shawn Maloney and The Punk Rock Party Band. the Store will be carring CD's and Vinyl (new and used) they will be keeping affordable turntables in stock along with a few musical items like cool pedals and microphones. Alex and Lynn are putting up their vast collections of music up to get the store going. I've been through it and there is a ton of great stuff. I'm not sure what the hours of the store will be yet. A website will be up soon....www.grandpalace.us Also.....the live sound room of the studio will host "in store performances" on occasion.
