TOPIC: REM Perfect Square DVD

For any hardcore REM fans like me you need to rush right out and buy the Perfect Square DVD, NOW! The DVD has 23 songs including a rarity that I think I have heard but I don't believe it is on any of their cds (Permanent Vacation), forgive me if I'm wrong. James Riot and I believe this DVD has the greatest sound from any live concert and the audience is hilarious. I believe we spotted the twins from The Proclaimers at the show. And Peter Buck does this great move towards the end (I believe it is before So Fast, So Numb) but he is on the floor and somehow jumps up so quickly he looks like a blur. And it was funny to see Stipe run out close to the audience and basically get molested by countless hands. So stop whatever you're doing and get this DVD!

"Hi. We're REM and this is what we do. Tonight, it's you and me and him and him. Enjoy."
"Look at that lip. Gonna bite it."

I had no idea this was coming out, but I don't exactly follow REM anymore. I still consider myself a fan. I'll schedule a movie night sometime soon and watch it with TF.

i bought the dvd & skimmed through it once--i think it looks & sounds great, but i am disappointed in the set list. too many of those "eh" songs and not enough of my favorites. if only they had made a dvd of the atlanta show....

What is the setlist?
What changes would you make to it??

The reviews on murmurs.com were less than stellar so I was planning to skp this one. However, after reading your opinions (and because of my renewed interest in R.E.M.), I'll reconsider my decision.

Begin the Begin (awesome)
What's the Frequency, Kenneth? (ok)
Maps and Legends (awesome)
Drive (eh)
Animal (eh)
Daysleeper (ok)
Great Beyond (ok)
Bad Day (ok)
The One I Love (ok)
All the Way to Reno (no way)
Orange Crush (pretty good)
Losing My Religion (don't really need to hear this song again)
At My Most Beautiful (good)
Electrolite (awesome)
She Just Wants to be (ok)
Walk Unafraid (pretty good)
Man on the Moon (pretty good)
Everybody Hurts (ok)
So Fast, So Numb (pretty good)
Country Feedback (awesome)
Permanent Vacation (pretty good)
Imitation Of Life (pretty good)
It's The End of the World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine) (pretty good)

i would take away the "eh" "ok" and "losing my religion" and add any of the following:
fall on me, nightswimming, find the river, sitting still, wolves lower, sweetness follows, you are the everything...

this was the set list to the show i saw in atlanta in october 2003: it would've made for a much better dvd.

Finest Worksong
Begin the Begin
So Fast, So Numb
Drive
Animal
Fall on Me
You Are the Everything
Bad Day
The One I Love
Electrolite
E-Bow the Letter
(Don't Go Back To) Rockville
Find the River
Losing My Religion
At My Most Beautiful
She Just Wants to Be
Walk Unafraid
Man on the Moon
Encore:
Life and How to Live It
Nightswimming
Final Straw
Gardening at Night
Wolves, Lower
Sitting Still
Radio Free Europe
Permanent Vacation
Imitation of Life
It's the End of the World As We Know It (and I Feel Fine)

I agree that this set list from Atlanta would have been better on a DVD, that was one hell of a show! Adding Wolves Lower, Fall on Me, You are the everything, Turn you inside out and many countless others would have "made me smile" more so than I already was but I guess if you are the true REM fan, you will smile no matter what they play. I hope that if you were once a fan that you will get this DVD and it will rekindle your love for this fantastic band!

I guess that's the thing about me and REM. I don't feel like I need a millionth live copy, video or otherwise, of Man on the Moon or Losing My Religion or several others. That's why I'm glad for stuff like Maps & Legends on there.

And smee, I get the impression that Reveal wasn't your favorite album.
