so far ive heard that the friday closing bands will be Josh Rouse and the Northern Mississippi Allstars.
Ill defaintely be around for josh Rouse but i dont think ive ever heard of the other guys. Im guessing by the name that they are either a jam band or a blues band or a mix of the both. either way, no thanks.

if this is the best they got...things are definately going downhill for this show. i remember a while ago it was something like phantom planet and black eyed peas. then last year hot action cop. then this year the northern mississippi allstars?

ah well.
Eh.

Yes, Phantom Planet was rad (followed by Guster who bored me to tears). Yes, Hot Action Cop unleashed their suckitude last year, but they were followed by a sweet set by the Nappy Roots.

If Josh Rouse is the headliner for friday night, I have really high hopes for saturday. On the other hand, it could easily be crap like Rooney that the kids seem to love these days.

Either way, I'll be there. I never pass up the opportunity to drink beer in a big open field.

I was close. It's going to be OK Go. Also The Wailers, Talib Kweli, Robert Earl Keen, and The Loft. Ick.

For a full line-up, go here.

i was once on the rites of spring commitee. lemme tell ya how much fun it was to work with a group of white hat frat boys whose music appreciation was built around the "now" compilation of the moment. well, that year, everyone thought it would be funny to get nelly, so we shelled out 70 thou for 45 minutes of country grammar remixes performed by nelly and his 30+ entouragers. this could be a whole story, but i'll move on.

the next year, i do believe, was phantom planet. i had never heard of this band, so i went to guided by voices at exit/in. i learned of phantom planet when i almost floored the rushmore kid and gave him that "hey am i supposed to know you" look. this was the first of two times in my life that i've accidentally almost assaulted a star who i didn't recognize, with the second being elvis costello last month in the airport, but that's also another story...

back to rites of spring. this committee has more money than they know what to do with, more opinions than they know what to do with, and less taste than i know what to do with. this year's lineup is pretty sad, but i do highly recommend the dirty dozen brass band. this is the real deal. take yer ass to church.

Well, the lineup is still pretty crappy, but if you plan on going, you'll need to buddy up with a Vandy student. It's free, but only open to students, faculty, staff, and their guests.

I may or may not go check out OK GO tomorrow at 7:15pm. Anybody seen 'em? Are they worth me taking the 5 minute walk?

while i think most people think i have bad taste on this board, i saw OK GO last year when they played with the Donnas (i left immediately after OK GO left the stage) and i must say OK GO puts on a great show.
The band is energenic and the music was really tight.
I wanna offended no persons!

1. Actually Carl, you would probably really like OK Go's live show. I can name plenty of bands (that you like) that they are better than, but I don't want to offend local lurkers.

2. Rites of Spring has been "for Vandy people only" for (at least) the past couple of years and I've never heard of any outsiders who have had trouble getting in. The people that I know have never had any trouble getting in. It couldn't hurt to be a little sneaky about it.

did anyone go to this??

i did, just for ok go. it was definitely NOT the best of their performances i have seen...but a lot of fun, nonetheless. they did a choreographed (sp?) dance at the end to a recording of one of their songs...and it was freaking hilarious. i had seen it before on a video, but in person...it was by far one of the best closings to any show i've seen in awhile. (#1 would have to go to phantom planet's "all over again" in nashville a few weeks ago)

i was mainly excited about last nite's festivities, however, due to the fact that ok go's roadie was with everclear for a long time and one of my friends. no one else cares about this. nevermind.

right you are, ken!

I saw OK Go. They were a little more than okay. The highlight was during their cover of Violent Femmes' "What do I have to do", when the lead singer climbed on top of the PA (abput 6 feet up), jumped off, rolled on the stage as he picked up the mic, and finished the song. Good stuff.
