A certain midwesterner and I had this coversation once, though I won't say who because he now denies that it ever occurred.

I'm not all about Mellencamp's music. But hey, he is friends with Willie Nelson, right? He's not America. Neither is Springsteen. They just represent some of America - the "common man" (because they are so working class) and people that like bad rocknroll.

I saw Lee Greenwood once, when he sang "God Bless the USA" (surprise, surprise) at the Nashville Superspeedway's NASCAR Busch Race in 2001. He sure has pigeonholed himself. He was all decked-out in American flag garb, which I find to be incomparable in tackiness.

It definitely sounds like something he would say.

Oh, and there are few people that I hate more than The Coog.

I TOTALLY AGREE!

Keith, you are destined to rock. Never forget this.

John Mellencamp is cool, and a part of American music for sure...But I the Boss could kick his ass...

Life Is a Highway
that song was by Tom Cochrane, not John Mellencamp

Consider it edited. Thank you for the clarification.

I would consider The Village People as America. They're a salad bowl, not a melting pot!

Or maybe America is America. I love me some "Sister Golden Hair."
That's so NA.

Mellencamp's early stuff is very interesting, and I respect the direction he's gone in with his recent material (more of a blues direction). Can't fault the man on his political opinions either. Who cares that he's made bank on "Jack and Diane" and "Pink Houses."

did you steal that from billy c.? because i remember a certain smog show that you played at in which he said something on the order of, "john mellencamp called... he said 'what's up?'"

i only remember this because on the way to the show john mellencamp was on the radio and we were like "why in hell are we listening to john mellencamp?"
she's just another ho that i met in the hood
i told her i was crunchy black and it was all good

I think he bagged my groceries at Kroger the other day.

I also believe that TF or I have discussed the theory that 9/11 was engineered by Lee Greenwood so that patriotism would be inspired and he could be famous again.

that's hilarious and surprisingly plausible. Someone should make a movie surrounding that premise.

Why do I love John Cougar? Because he hates the Bush administration. See here. God, I am so shallow sometimes
