TOPIC: Slack, De Novo Dahl, and The Privates
Posted  Wednesday, October 1, 2003 at 12:46 AM
Post 1 of 63
The Privates, De Novo Dahl, Slack @ The Exit/In: Sunday, Oct. 5, 9:30 or so

Apparantly there will be free spaghetti available to the earliest people who show up to this concert, as well as a raffle with prizes. This is also a fundraiser for the upcoming Slack tour. I wasn't going to come, but free spaghetti? Come on, honestly, I'm there. FYI: If you've yet to see the Privates, do yourself a favor and go to this show. It should already be apparent that DND and Slack alone are worth it.

Okay, I take it back, I'm NOT a fan of the VegetableMan.

I've never really considered Slack to be that highly rated, so I'm not sure if they could be considered "overrated". But I'll just asume you and I are from different eras or locations. Either way, I say the exact opposite. Too many people are unaware of the awesomeness that is Slack. Plus, they're not pretensious (sp?) assholes, which goes a long way in my book.

VegetableMan, welcome. It's nice to have someone new stirring up shit. I do disagree with most everything you have said though.

Slack- If anything, I think they are underrated. They are one of the tightest, catchiest bands I've seen and I respect them even more considering how long they have been doing it and how nice of guys they are. I think they deserve all the attention they are finally getting.

Sina- I can remember at least two incidents of being punched, and one of being burned with a cigarette. I wouldn't bade her on. Also, why would you insult someone on their race/nationality?

Whoa, people across the country are digging on Slack? That's awesome! I had no idea. Must have been the Banger Sisters soundtrack. (hahaha)

For the record, I have no beef with someone saying they don't like a band. I do, however, have a beef with someone saying that a very talented, underappreciated (merely my humble opinion), hardworking, modest, and super-nice band is overrated.

A band must have a sufficient level of appreciation to be considered "overrated". Overrated doesn't necessarily mean a band sucks, it means a band isn't worth the hype. I don't really see Slack getting that much hype (anywhere but here or possibly on my website).

Now do you see the difference?

It's a good thing that you champed it out and did make to part of the show. I can't say a bad thing about any of the three bands tonight. The Privates are really good and I love their post-punk music. De Novo Dahl played one of the more flawless sets that I've ever seen them play. It was really great that they played their full set. Very good show. And, even though it was only my second Slack show, I still enjoyed it like I had been listening to them for years. I'm about to listen to my old-school Slack cassette. Excellent, excellent show and I'm shocked that there weren't more people there.

Goes to show you how overrated they are.

The amount of peole at Slack shows is always directly proportional to the amount of promotion the boys do. They didn't promote this one too heavily, so it was a smaller crowd. Of course, it doesn't help that it was a sunday night.
