TOPIC: Song of the Week
Posted  Monday, October 18, 2004 at 6:08 PM
Post 1 of 78
For this week, my "Song of the Week" choice is "Engine Number 9" by Wilson Pickett. It features some nasty bass playing and a razoring guitar sound that cuts into your mind. Soul + funk + psychedlic rock = an excellent selection for my "Song of the Week". Everyone else, name your song of the week.

My song of the eight weeks is "Footloose."

I'm really enjoying Teenage Wristband by the Twilight Singers. ( I would have put an R.E.M. song, but that's too easy isn't it?) But by the way it's Electron Blue.

Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah

I just recently found this song again, and I remembered why I liked it so much...then I suggested a friend learn it on guitar....then I randomly heard it somewhere else. Its so bittersweet and wonderful!
What were you thinking when you saw the light?
Were you surprised to find the world outside?
I felt so sorry for your little head
Was it depressing to just lay in bed?

I think sir paul produced her first album Postcard as one of the acts Apple Corps signed up. I like The Honeymoon Song off that which, Macca sings on the Beatles Live at the BBC doubler.

Totally unrelated....did you know that when Apple Computers came out they got in a big lawsuit over the name with Apple Corps? They came to an agreement that they could keep the name as long as Apple Computers never had anything to do with music ot making it. Oopsie. Apple Computers have been paying up of late.

Yeah, Paul produced Post Card. I enjoy it much more than Earth Song, Ocean Song(her other album), although I love it too. Those Were the Days (her greatest hits album) is really good. It's probably the best out of all of her releases you can get, in my opinion. Ray Davies told me he heard they're coming out with a new compilation album called "Goodbye" (her big hit that Paul wrote and played on). I'm really looking forward to that. Another reason why I like Mary Hopkin...Twiggy discovered her. Anyway...that's enough about that. And, yeah, "The Puppy Song" is one of my favorite songs ever. I prefer the Harry Nilsson version, though.

I think Jackie Lomax (no idea who he was), Billy Preston and Badfinger (along with the solo stuff) were to follow. Did they ever sign up anyone else? I have this really cool Apple Corps EP (CD) that comes in an apple shaped package and that's all the folks they had on there.
