Could Joe Jackson's "Steppin' Out" be the best use of the bells ever in a rock song? Discuss.

i really like the use of bells in Fountains Of Wayne's "Valley Winter Song." they give it a somber feel. But who am i to argue against Joe Jackson?
Eh.

Me too! And I thought "Big Balls" was the obvious choice, but then there's always the classic "The Trapper Song" from Cannibal the Musical.

But what about Smashing Pumpkins "Disarm." ha ha.

Liontamer, your avatar rules. King Hippo would be a great band name.

Ha,
My uncle whom likes Joe Jackson alot, bought me Mike Oldfield's tubular bells a couple years ago. I must say, its interesting, but not an everyday listening sort of cd.

The award for Most Random But Still Funny and a Tad Endearing Thread goes to Mr. Frog! I did love me some Joe Jackson, but that could have been more due to the fact I was raised for several years of my life entirely on a diet of MTV (when it first came out, thank you. Rock on astronaut plantin' a flag on the moon guy!) and the three bands that were played on there. Thus I loved Duran Duran, Joe Jackson and Aha (don't ask).

I was just happy to be nominated... I never dreampt in a million years I'd win this...

Joe Jackson hit me smack between the eyes when I was in fith grade. He was on SNL and I thought he was the coolest thing that I had ever seen (not to tough growing up in small town Iowa, I think before that, it was the token punk chick in town with the green mohawk).

The best part about Steppin' Out, is if you have the album version, there's this little funky reggae, steel drum lead in into the bass riff. It doesn't get played on the radio version.

And to almost discredit myself. Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds has a nice touch of bells. But I still hold firm on Steppin' Out because if you remove the bells from it, it doesn't happen. The bells in Lucy are more for accents. I don't think they would be missed if they weren't there.
