TOPIC: the Astronaut Pushers

OK, Features Fans, how often do you see Jamie Carroll on this message board plugging a show? Yeah, not very often. So take note, because I am officially plugging a show now. And I'm not even involved involved in the show.

FRIDAY, JULY 9
THE BASEMENT - 1604 8th Ave. S.; Nashville
Show starts at 10:00 pm and costs $5.

There will be a band playing at approximately 10:30 called the Astronaut Pushers. This is a new band. The band is Sam Ashworth, Matt Slocum (Sixpence None the Richer), and Lindsay Jamieson (Departure Lounge). This is their first show, and they're giving a free two song CD to everyone who comes to the show. I happen to have heard the music, and I think it's top notch, really stellar stuff. I think that Sam's voice and Matt's guitar is a really beautiful marriage. Go check this out if you're so inclined.
Relevant: Prince, PT Anderson, Punk, Post-Punk, Purple, Party of Five, Peter Swanson, Peter Gabriel-led Genesis, "Peter Panic", Paul's Boutique, Potential Energy, Every Features MB member but me.

Wow, this was listed as a Sam Ashworth show, so I was thinking about going. Now my interest is even greater. Although, I was hoping we'd have a rockin' bass player like yourself.

I think myself and foldsfan (remember that guy?) will be attending. I noticed another act was listed. Is this a short opener?

jennifer nicely is the opener and she allegedly has a full band backing her up now. the book on her is that she's got some pleasant songs. a good-looking lass. that's lass with an L, mind.
anyhow, i may or may not be there. i'm flipping a coin on it. if i am going to Atl. for the polyphonic spree, i'll be leaving in the morning, so i may forego the pusher experience tonight. any odds out yet on how long it takes sam to break up this band?

I'll give them one more show.
I TOTALLY AGREE!

Keith, you are destined to rock. Never forget this.

i'm sceptical, but then, i'm a sceptic. what the hell is an astronaut pusher anyway? what does an astronaut push? tang? weightlessness? although, between the sneaky eaters, my tyger, and this one, i find this band name the least revolting. that's encouraging, i suppose, in a way.

I really did like My Tyger as a band name.

"Astronaut Pushers" refers to "pushing outward beyond the known parameters of the universe of music."

I wish I could limit mine to just today. But, for a moment I was skeptical about the trophy on your shelf; the one that says "first runner up, National Grammar Rodeo, 1987". keep up the good work smithson.

Huh huh "pushing tang". Nice.

I enjoyed the show for the same reason I've always enjoyed Sam's shows. That dude's voice is in-friggin-crebible.

well, i missed the first show but i caught the second one tonight at the basement...and i must say it was startlingly brilliant. it is the best thing young samuel brinsley has ever done, and incomparably so. highly recommended.

OK, the differing language in these two posts make laugh uproariously for a pretty long time. I want to hear this now since it's diversely recommended.
That's so NA.

yeah, it is, er...unfettered? but i really liked it, so it must be good--because, as it's been well-documented, i don't like anything.
