TOPIC: The Privates
Posted  Sunday, November 16, 2003 at 4:03 PM
Post 1 of 121
The Privates are playing at the End on this Wednesday, November 19th. The Bubblegum Complex is playing with them and there's another act, too. I've been meaning to see the Bubblegum Complex for a year or so now, because they were at Vol State the same time as myself, last year. I don't know if they suck or not. Regardless, I'm going to see the Privates because they kick ass.

Yay for the Bubblegum Complex. They're the band whose album my record label's releasing later this month. (Around the 26th) If you want more details feel free to check out my label's site that I made. heatstrokerecords.com

Yes, the design sucks, I know. I'm going to buy a professional one soon enough though, and then everything shall be squared away. And in all honesty, I do recommend that you check out the BGC these days. They recently got rid of their troublesome drummer and added a far more talented one as well as a second guitarist. From what I hear, it's more of a band whereas previously it was mostly just Caldwell. (Their frontman) Also, from what others have told me, their new material is definitely their best yet, so yeah, check 'em out.

By the way, that other act is Velcro Stars. They're an excellent, talented band and a split album with them and the BGC will probably be HS Records' second release.

I haven't heard BGC, only of them, but I am really interested in seeing a show. While I was out this weekend, several people told me that they were very good...

I had everything in place to record this show and my dumb ass left the recorder on pause the whole time. I hope that they play sometime soon, because I think that I'm addicted. And, they played an Eno cover. It was fucking great.

If they ever decide to tackle another cover, they should play "My Mind Ain't So Open" by Magazine. That song fits their sound so well. Neuboy could play the horn parts with his keyboard, but he'd have play guitar the rest of the time. It would blow my mind.

OMG- I like totally need to go to the tanning bed too, stopforme! I haven't been for like a whole hour and im starting to look all pasty and gross!

But now i dont have anything to wear. i was sooo going to wear my neon pink sequin halter top with my neon green hot pants. I have a killer electric blue eyeshadow that goes perfectly with it. ooo maybe i could get a tan and buy a super cute outfit at the Gap all in the same day. Wouldn't that be super fun!!

sorry- dont know what came over me -- must be the NyQuil

P.S. I'm not a 'vixen' like my name implies. So im not giving any Tom Cruise look-alikes blow jobs but if someone else were to, far be it from me to judge. Hugh Grant on the other hand...

OKAY!  heres the shit.  i got the HOTTEST/CUTEST neon pink sequin halter top from RAVE [the store] and i was thinking about wearing it with my neon green hot pants.  and you know what i thought would be the cutest?  is if you wore your neon green top with your hot pink hot pants!  we would be like the olsen twinkies!  if you dont want to do that though, i say we wear our matching over-all shorts outfits.  god, i really need to get to the tanning bed before friday because im peeling so badly and my skin is all white where the peeling happened.  UGH!  dont you hate that, sina?

p.s.s.  do any of you tom cruise look-alikes like blow jobs?

* DRESSY BESSY. Pure and simple retro bubblegum indie pop from this Denver-based band with ties to the Apples in Stereo and The Minders. While they look like extras from an Austin Powers flick, Dressy Bessy has just as much in common sonically and stylistically with the wave of early-'90s female-fronted indie rock bands like Belly and Velocity Girl. With THE PRIVATES, Nashville's best and brightest new indie band, who take members from Character and the Features to back up one of the most energetic and gifted frontmen we've seen, plus new proto-punk band THE PINK SPIDERS, who try to marry the Ramones with newer more aggro/emo sounds like At The Drive In. 9pm, The End, $6

Actually, the Zombies are still very much alive (and I dont mean just through their music). Rod Argent and Colin Blunstone did a US tour this past summer promoting their very sorry "Out of the Shadows" comeback album. However, they did play many of their old favorites from the Zombies days and pleased a very diverse and interesting crowd. It was a very pleasing experience for me, but I could have done without the flamboyant guitarist in the hawaiian shirt. He was a little over the top!

Thanks. Now it's a matter if anyone else is going, and if I decide to do my paper....right now.

So, um, who else is going?
That's so NA.

I was there. The crowd was alright. I "accidentally" missed the Pink Spiders.

The Privates suffered from a ridiculous amount of technical problems: several spontaneous unpluggings, broken guitar strings, broken bass amp, crappy monitors, dropped picks, flying drumsticks, etc. Despite all this, it was still a pretty good show.

Most of the crowd left before/during Dressy Bessy. It was pretty sad. The band acknowledged the lack of an energetic crowd, but a few in the audience were trying to keep it together. I have to admit, I've actually liked the band less and less the 3 times I've seen them.

Twas a good show and through the miracle of electronic tweakings, the mishappens can go unnoticed on the bootleg.

I felt bad for them, but at the same time, I didn't care. I like them too much for such things to keep me from enjoying the show.
