So, ah, the new Strokes single has been released on their website after lots of leaking. As one of the biggest Strokes fans on the board, I have to say I'm a little weirded out. First, no distortion on Julian's vocals. He sounds good and all, but I liked the distortion. Second, Nikolai's bass line is pretty, um, prominent, simple, and heavy. I like old, complex Nikolai bass, the one that makes "Reptilia" awesome. Overall, it's the Strokes and they still know how to create a beautiful melody and some catchiness. Wonder what the rest of the album will be like.

As someone who thinks "Room on Fire" was better than "Is This It," they have a lot to live up to.

It's a good song, it takes a few listens to really like it. I still don't like that bassline at the start, it could sound so much better. I've only heard good stuff about the other tracks - supposedly some of their best songs to date. We'll just have to wait and see I guess.

I might have to blame my slight aversion to it because it's a different producer. That's really the most striking change to me, the production. No distorted vocals, odd bass sound. It doesn't sound like The Strokes.

The more I listen to it the more I like it, but I still find the start of it jarring and not that pleasant. Kinda jokey...but once the song starts it's good.

i think its hairrible.

heres hoping that its a joke to make people think that they are "broadening their sound" or some shit and that the rest of the album is good.

It sounds pretty ridiculous to me. Like if Motley Crue, The B-52's, and Nirvana decided to colaborate. ELT don't like it. It seems like a self conscious attempt to sound weird.

It's slightly less droning than the other stuff. Nice gravelly screams ("Why won't you come over heeeeeeeeeerrrr!?!"). The bass line makes me think of the Munsters. I've never owned a Strokes record and I doubt I'll start now.

I don't really get the sounding weird part of it that everyone keeps talking about. It doesn't sound that different, song wise, than the riff parts in "Last Nite" or the melody parts in "The End Has No End." It's all in the production, I think, and the way Julian delivers the verse.

This song is definitely a grower. I've listened to it 15 times now and I think it's good. The name (Juicebox?) is lame as hell and I still am not down with the bass line but the song is good. I love the "come over here" part, it's good to hear a nice Julian-yell. They don't happen much ("NYC Cops" and "End has No End" being the two off the top of my head) but when they do, me like.

I love this band way too much and I know they won't let me down.
