TOPIC: The Thrills

Alright, there's this band you may have heard of called The Thrills. They're a bunch of micks obsessed with California who craft some very sunny, pretty pop. Think a more lush, west-coast Grandaddy. Or just check 'em out at www.thethrills.com. If you don't trust my tatses, know that the mysterious Lauren wouldn't shut up about them the other night.

Anyway, they're playing a free show at Tower on West End sunday at 3pm. (Unfortunately, this conflicts with the AFC championship game.) They'll also be playing 3rd and Lindsley the same night (8ish?). Like I said, its unabashed pop, so if you're into that kind of thing, they're probably worth checking out (especially for free). Considering the press they're getting, I have a feeling they'll be playing a bigger venue next time around. Actually, they'll probably get big enough to be too cool for Nashville next time around.

The Thrills record is my favorite release since the Broken Social Scene record. As such, I will be at the show.

I've been hanging out at the Thrills message board (www.thethrills.com) I've put up a few posts there, same handle. Its actually a pretty cool board, just about all kids from the UK talking about good music. I'm thinking about putting up a post about the Features there after I get some cred with the elder statesmen on that board. You wouldn't beleive how many of them love the fucking Kings of Leon, though. In due time, I'll write a post exposing that boy band for what they are.

Word on the street is that there will be a small resurgence of the FIST. In the meantime, we're politely urged to keep our preaching to a minimum. All in due time, kiddies. All in due time...

Indeed. And The Darkness. Not that I have a problem with that...The Darkness, anyways... unsure.gif
We'll miss you Mr. Hooper.

I'm not afraid to tell the world that your tatses are hott. It was lovely seeing you, too.

It is weird- I was at a Guided by Voices show this week (despite the fact that I'm not a huge fan), and it seemed that everyone around me was talking about KOL- and one was saying it was the BEST record of last year. What is wrong with people??

K.O.L are fucking horrid. When I saw The Strokes in Atlanta late last year, K.O.L opened for them. People were going apeshit for them. I thought they were all on crack (band included).

i would think youd have to be a huge guided by voices fan to be a fan of them at all. guess not though.

and im still wishy-washy on the thrills. the singles are fantastic but there are a few weak points on the album. does anyone know what the age limit for 3rd and lindsley is?
Eh.

Did anyone make it to the show? I was late for the Tower thing, but they were there signing autographs. They looked a little too pretty for me, but who am I to judge?

When it came time for last night's show, I was too lazy to go, so I saved my $8 and watched a rerun of the Celebrity Poker Championship on Bravo and the new episode of the Surreal World (which rules by the way).

I went to the show. It was packed out the ying yang and was sold out by the time Patrick Park went on stage. It was so uncomfortable to be squashed in there like that the whole time, and that may have caused me not to enjoy the music as much as I might have. I thought Patrick Park was very good, but I'm not sure The Thrills really lived up to the hype for me.

It was fun, but I don't know, not the sort of quirky pop-y stuff I sincerely enjoy. The lead singer being hot in that generic skinny singer guy way didn't have the power to make up for it. I DID enjoy the Jet song they played on the house speakers during intermission, and watching Grimey watch the show. He's a crazy little monkey, and was more entertaining.

i thought this show was okay. the thrills seem to fall under the slew of bands that i don't hate, but i don't really mind them either. i probably won't buy their album. i don't like it when singers feel the need to converse with the crowd mid-song during an instrumental break..."how you doing tonight? we're the thrills!" they also dedicated a song to anyone with irish blood. damn irishmen!

My hatred for Notre Dame has manifested itself in a loathing of all things Mc... I'm glad I wasn't there... you dont want to get the Germans all riled up.. next thing you know tanks are rolling into Paris.
