ok, ok i know we've had about 2390 different discussions about the walkmen on here, but i thought i'd share since a lot of you folks seem to be into them now. according to their website, they'll be in nashville at the exit in on thursday may 6. hooray.

*you can already order tickets through ticketmaster. after all the stupid fees, a pair of tickets came out to $31.99*

Remember when Pearl Jam tried to take Ticketmaster down because of monopolistic practices. $12.00 fee on top of a $20.00 ticket order seems fair (and that's 2 tickets), doesn't it? Right.

I have never heard this band but I guess they are awesome. I have that kind of money I might go.

I have "Everyone Who Pretended To Like Me Is Gone" and have only listened to it a couple of times. I need to listen to it again, but at this point, I don't see what the big deal is to everyone. They're good, but nothing on the album really jumped out at me. I think I'll give it another whirl tonight and get back to you on it.

I enjoy the songs smee included on my mix CD (thanks again, smee - you rule), but I think my money would be better spent in purchasing an album of theirs at this point. I generally don't enjoy going to see bands whose music I'm not very familiar with, my first features show excepted.

Maybe I'll catch them next time around. At this point, I am just hoping to make it through the summer without having to resort to pimping out YaDaDaDa.

I'm glad to hear that someone else thinks that, RD. I've heard an old album and the new one and I just don't get it at all. Where are the melodies?
Relevant: Prince, PT Anderson, Punk, Post-Punk, Purple, Party of Five, Peter Swanson, Peter Gabriel-led Genesis, "Peter Panic", Paul's Boutique, Potential Energy, Every Features MB member but me.

I'm the same way. The songs were mixed horribly, and there were not melodies. only good ambience. A cd Full of Ambience.

Hmm, a show I want to see that's actually not at 12th and Porter. I better snatch it right up.

Here's hoping they either (1) don't cancel or (2) move date to 12th and Porter.
But what will happen to the boy when the circus comes to town?

I wouldn't worry about it moving to 12th & P. It has considerably less space than Exit/In, and it does not have the prestige to book many bigger touring acts. It's more of a hub for smaller touring acts and big local acts.

Just because almost every time I get my hopes up about seeing a band, they either cancel or relocate to 12th and Porter (or some other 21+ place) where I cannot get in. Of Montreal was scheduled to play at Wallstreet, but they just announced they've moved it to 12th and Porter. After I got really upset though, they informed Ray Davies that it's a special 18+ show, so I'll get to see them one way or another (if it's 18+ or if I have to get my mom to take me). So, yeah, I've got to where I expect shows to get canceled now since it's happened so many times.

Sweet. $16 is a little much, but I'll most likely be there. I can't believe you didn't mention Andrew W.K.

Dude, you posted the link yourself! It's on May 30th.

Did anyone mention The Von Bondies on the 24th (we'll see if they skip this one, too)?

I'm more excited about an Evening with Clutch on the 27th.

i was very disappointed by this show. dont get me wrong, the band sounded and played really really really well, but i felt so cheated by the setlist. maybe im just spoiled by the features but an hour long show is not enough for me. there were a ton of other songs that i would have liked to have heard.

and the flash photography is getting a little distracting, yall. so to sum the rules of attending live shows:
1) no choreographed dancing
2) no excessive clapping
3) no air guitar, drums, or keyboard
4) no requesting songs
5) no more than one use of the digital camera every minute
6) no buttons
7) no standing still in the front row
oh the drudgery of being wet

the show was really really good, but really really short. 45 minutes just didn't cut it. and there was also about 4 songs that i really wanted to hear that got left out. i guess what i really wanted was for them to play both albums straight through. but the show was by no means a waste and i'm very excited to see them again.

sorry about the flash photography. i realize it's annoying, so i tried to do it in clusters (instead of spreading it out throughout the entire show), but maybe this isn't the most effective method. also, i was wearing a pin (it wasn't a button, but i feel it's best to come clean now). again, my deepest apologies. wink.gif

The Walkmen were awesome. The length was a bit short, but then again, I'd be working all day and could've used the sleep, so in a way I was sort of glad we got out pretty early. However, the opener played way too long and were... threatening.

And I agree with Keith on the white boy air guitar/drums.
