I don't like those regulations. Wouldn't that mean that some Limp Biskit album would be in the top 10?

While definitely not a hugely popular or successful album in the grand scheme of things, I think The Postal Service's "Give Up" is a beautiful and well made album. Best of all, it doesn't sound like everything else that tends to be successful, popular, and best selling.
remember that its all in your head.

According to Rolling Stone:

1. Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, The Beatles

2. Pet Sounds, The Beach Boys

3. Revolver, The Beatles

4. Highway 61 Revisited, Bob Dylan

5. Rubber Soul, The Beatles

6. What's Going On, Marvin Gaye

7. Exile on Main Street, The Rolling Stones

8. London Calling, The Clash

9. Blonde on Blonde, Bob Dylan

10. The Beatles ("The White Album"), The Beatles

But yeah, like LaLaLa said, those aren't the top grossing.

The top grossing of all time:

1. Eagles: Their Greatest Hits

2. Michael Jackson: Thriller

3. Pink Floyd: The Wall

4. Led Zeppelin: Untitled (IV)

5. Billy Joel: Greatest Hits Volume I & II

6. AC/DC: Back in Black

7. Shania Twain: Come on Over

8. Fleetwood Mac: Rumours

9. The Beatles: The Beatles (White album)

10. Whitney Houston & Various Artists: The Bodyguard Soundtrack.

So yeah, there's quite a bit of difference. In my opinion, a top 10 without a Bon Jovi album on it is no top 10 at all.

You like Cats better than Kittens?

For some reason, I put in kittens first and was hooked. I just assumed Cats couldn't be any better so I haven't really listend to it... Perhaps that will be in my car tomorrow.

Cats is the non-remixed version, right? Whichever one is not the remixes, that's the one I'm talking about.

Rings Around the World - the Super Furry Animals
That's nice to see. I love Sfa, dunno if Rings would be my choice though, Id probably say Radiator is better. My top 10 would look something like this(purely albums that I personally enjoy);

Love- Forever Changes
Led Zeppelin- IV
The Mars Volta- De-Loused in the Comatorium
Hot Hot Heat- Make up the Breakdown
At the drive in- Relationship of Command/ or In-Casino-Out
Beck- Odelay
Manics- The Holy Bible
Radiohead- The Bends (Hail to the thief is great too)
Radiohead- OK Computer
Super Furry Animals- Radiator

Its pretty hard to narrow it down to 10. I think there's probably about 50 albums I couldnt live without.

You're right. In looking back at my top 10, there are quite a few others I would like to have in there, namely Odelay and OK Computer.

Several of the production choices on Cats disappointed me. Some of the vocals were processed strangely, and some several songs had the keyboards too high in the mix. As a result, I was a little disappointed in how the album didn't represent the band's live sound and didn't live up to the polished EP. Then I put in Kittens, which I didn't expect to like that much. I was wrong.

Anyway, back to the topic at hand, my top 10 albums have already been posted a few times. The only thing that would change is that if the Minutemen's Double Nickels on the Dime wasn't there before, it is now. John Lennon's Plastic Ono Band will probably be there soon as well.

Whenever Yadadada and I first started dating, we were very much like the couple out of High Fidelity. He was always trying to get me to make top 5 and 10 lists, and I was always like, "Why do I have to pick? Can't I just like lots of stuff?" Anyway, here you go, Yadadada. This one's for you. In no particular order:

*Cake Fashion Nugget
*The White Stripes De Stijl
*The Kinks The Kinks are the Preservation Society
*Radiohead The Bends/ O.K. Computer (tie)
*Smashing Pumpkins Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness
*R.E.M. Automatic for the People
*Yeah Yeah Yeahs Fever to Tell
*Self Gizmodgery
*The Beatles The Beatles
*The Beatles Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band

Honorable Mentions:

*The Strokes Room on Fire
*The Shins Chutes too Narrow
*Blur Park Life
*De Novo Dahl Cats and Kittens
*Self Breakfast With Girls
*Oh, and that Features album

I never know whether classical and jazz music are supposed to be included on these lists or not, but to me the most perfect recording that I own goes to Glenn Gould's recording of J.S. Bach's Goldberg Variations. It makes my soul very, very happy to listen to it.

I've been trying to find that for a few months, and it's always really expensive... gah.

my friend just let me borrow Mellon Collie today, i've never heard it before. listened to the first disc, and it's pretty good, but smashing pumpkins have never really been my thing.

top 10? hmmm... my musical tastes have been all over the place the past few years, but i think these will be the albums that i can definetly say i'll at least hold in high regard in the future, whether i listen to them or not. but... in no particular order...

radiohead - kid a (or amnesiac, depending on the mood)
my bloody valentine - loveless
sigur ros - aegatis bryjun
bob dylan - blonde on blonde
the shins - chutes too narrow
U2 - the joshua tree
the clash - london calling
jeff buckley - grace
the beatles - abbey road
arcade fire - funeral

.... that was really hard. the arcade fire record is almost too new to put on a list like this, but even after listening to it nonstop for about a month after i got it, i still really enjoy it. i agree with kezman, narrowing it down to 10 records is too few.

There's no such thing as keyboards being too loud, IMO.

I like the double album much, much more than the EP.

3. Beatles- Abbey Road

5. The Band- Music From the Big Pink
6. Tom Waits- Rain Dogs
7. XTC- English Settlement
8. Neil Young- After the Goldrush
9. The Zombies- Odessey and Oracle
10.Prince- Purple Rain
11. Michael Jackson- Off the Wall

that was very hard and probably will be completely different tomorrow.

Here's a cheap one:

Amazon.com

You're probably only seeing the new 3-disc re-release when you look. I think it's like $30.00, but well worth the money, I hear.

You flat-out cannot find Kinks CDs in Murfreesboro. They don't sell them. I've looked, they ain't out there. I got my "Village Green" from Amazon.com.

Oddly enough, Chapel Hill, NC is Kinks Heaven. The new and used CD store had at least 20 of their CDs and the record store down the street had "Arthur" used on top of a crap load of new and old vinyl. What up with that?

i'm horrible at top ten lists, but i like trying. lately, i've just been hearing so much new stuff and falling in love with it that it's hard for me to place them in a list that includes everything i've ever liked. i also like to keep it to one album per artist. but, in no order:

echo & the bunnymen-ocean rain
the walkmen-everyone who pretended to like me is gone
the white stripes-s/t
brian eno-here come the warm jets
roxy music-for your pleasure
talking heads-77
joanna newsom-milk-eyed mender
clinic-internal wrangler

Beach Boys - Sunflower
Pulp - His 'n' Hers
Super Furry Animals - Fuzzy Logic
Fairport Convention - What we did on our holidays
A Christmas Gift For You from Phil Spector

this is definetly a hard game... even now i'm remembering stuff i should've put down, or at least that would've been close to the top ten. most notably would be pet sounds.

God bless you, jamiecarrol. BWG is in my top three ever, too.

As for Cats, I just got that yesterday, so maybe it needs time to sink in...but I don't think it's a top-tenner. "All Over Town," "Jeffrey," "The Funk," "Be Your Man," and "New Belief" are all classics...but I just think 16 tracks is a little much. A 12 song per CD double album would've been just as ambitious, and would leave less room to trip up...

Haven't listened to Kittens yet, though. Maybe I need to do that first to really get it.
