Anyone get the DVD? I doubt I'd be able to purchase either anytime soon, but I find the DVD especially tempting.

Yeah, I'd much rather have the DVD. I'm disappointed that there aren't more rairities on the second disc. I realize a lot of it is alternate (aka shitily recorded) versions, but I expected to see more songs I haven't ever heard. There's only 3 or 4 of those. I already have a kick-ass compilation of B-sides, so I'm not really tempted to buy it. And making us buy the Blue Album again is completely ridiculous. Is there at least any new art? (I noticed the cover is pretty much the same.)

For those who haven't heard, weezer.com said that this is what to expect (more or less) from the DVD:

videos:

Undone - The Sweater Song
Buddy Holly
Say It Ain’t So
El Scorcho (directors cut)
The Good Life
Pink Triangle (home made no budget)
Hash Pipe
Island In The Sun (Marcos Siega)
Island In The Sun (Spike Jonze)
Photograph
Dope Nose
Keep Fishin’
Slob (indie style low budget)

Documentary, B-roll, and Live stuff:

Undone - the Sweater song (Alternate version)
"Weezer Goes To NY: The Making of The Blue Album"
In The Garage (live)
Jamie (Live)
"Buddy Holly News"
"Saction" (spring 1995 tour action)
Say It Ain't So (B-roll version)
Say It Ain't So (live - Dave Letterman)
"Weezer Goes To Van Nuys: The Making of Pinkerton"
El Scorcho (live)
The Good Life (B-roll version)
Pink Triangle (Live and Acoustic)
Mykel and Carli (Live)
My Brain (Live)
"Outlog"
"Stoopid Fresh" (green album preparations)
"How Not To Do An Interview"
Dope Nose (B-roll version)
"Eurotrash" (2002 tour action)
Take Control (Live)
Fall Together (Pre-Show Warmup)
Prodigy Lover (demo session)

How long before Sina tells us how gay weezer is?...

The CDs are on sale for 20 bucks at best buy, and the DVD is 10. I plan to buy both. This is great because I was just about to buy the Blue Album, but I waited until the special release.

Also from Weezer.com:

Fans were reporting local sell-outs of the Blue Deluxe in parts of L.A., Cleveland, and even Tennessee. People seemed to be able to find both new releases just about everywhere in the USA, but it seems some Best Buys were running such deep discounts that they were out of stock by mid-day at many stores...

Even Tennessee? What the hell is that supposed to mean?

I think it is a veiled dig at Matt Sharp.

It's hard enough trying to convince people we have plumbing and electricity. And furthermore, the reason I didn't buy the double CD right then was because it was, in fact, sold out.

Does the new CD have "Jamie" and "Suzanne"? I have no b-sides or rarities of theirs, and I'd buy the deluxe edition for those two songs.

Yes. I think there are two versions of Jamie, in fact.

It does not have their best B-side, however. That would be I Just Threw Out the Love of my Dreams.

For those too lazy to go to weezer.com:

1. Mykel and Carli (b-side)
2. Susanne (b-side)
3. My Evaline (b-side)
4. Jamie (originally appeared on DGC rarities)
5. My Name Is Jonas (live b-side)
6. Surfwax America (live b-side)
7. Jamie (live acoustic b-side)
8. No One Else (live acoustic b-side)
9. Undone (previously unreleased kitchen tapes)
10. Paperface (previously unreleased kitchen tapes)
11. Only In Dreams (previously unreleased kitchen tapes)
12. Lullaby For Wayne (previously unreleased pre-production recording)
13. I Swear It’s True (previously unreleased pre-production recording)
14. Say It Ain’t So (original album mix)

I think it doesn't have "I Just Threw Out..." because these b-sides are from the Blue era. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that was recorded during the Pinkerton era.

Yeah, so I definitely won't be getting this. Back when I used to use Napster, I made a CD with all of the B-sides on that list, plus their version of "Velouria" and some other cool stuff ("You Gave Your Love to me Softly," "Devotion," "...Love of My Dreams," "American Girls," etc). Do you think I'm going to shell out twenty bucks for some live tracks and "kitchen recordings"? Puhleeeze.

Even when Napster was around, I knew I should make that CD when I had the chance.

And I really miss Napster.

I went to Hastings today to buy both the reissue (that includes a big honkin' booklet apparently) and the DVD. I only found the DVD and I have watched the first hour of it which covers the Blue Album era. So far it is really interesting and cool to see all of the random stuff. The DVD is worth it for the videos alone.

i did the monday night midnight at tower this week. i smelled many a schwag-smoking hippie as they wiggled by me to get the new widespread panic and/or particle. i was nearly trampled by the masses of thirty-something men with long hair, black tees and combat boots who were air-guitaring their way towards the gunsnroses greatest hits. i counted the knapsacks and velcro wallets whipped out to get the new vines. i stood among the mostly-silent men in glasses who were wringing their hands over n.e.r.d.'s newest. i even talked to one guy who was looking for the new talyor sorenson, but he helped produce it.

but alas, i didn't see too many weezer fans. are we sick of the mood swings? are we saddened with the knowledge that the rivers we loved skips back and forth between selling out and hiding out? dammit, i loved weezer. i think that pinkerton may have changed my life. i think that "my name is jonas" may be the closest thing to a perfect opening song. "susanne" is the closest anyone's ever come to naming a song after me. what do you do when a band that you love doesn't die, but starts to suck its way off of your playlist?

i didn't buy the weezer. i bought the panic, the particle, the n.e.r.d., and the features ep. i already have all of the gunsroses albums.

The first Weezer album I ever bought was Maladroit, and I thought it was "pretty good." "Pretty good" enough to go backwards and buy the other three albums, which were always said to be a thousand times better, and I love them. I can't believe I missed out on these guys for what, a decade?

1990s Weezer rules. 2000s Weezer sucks. Cuomo needs to start writing on a personal level again.

I am a fan of all Weezer. It is all good to me. Of course there is news that Matt Sharp and Rivers have been playing together again. Could this mean that he will return to Weezer?

snacksmilesback is officially my favorite messageboard member I never met. Please keep posting-- about anything.

I can tell you there were tons of weezer fans at the release night of both the last two albums.

I think this time around can be explained by two simple facts: 1) their target audience is approximately 8-12 years old now and all those kids have curfiews (sp?) and 2) the other 5% of their fanbase (all the die-hard old-skool fans like myself) not only already have the blue album, but they have bootlegs of all the live/b-side stuff.
