the title speaks for itself.....

what is the worst rock song ever written?

This is a trickey question. I would tend to put some of my most hated songs down. But are the really the worst, or do they really just get on my nerves? Either way, it gotta be Aerosmith. Anything by them....

Gosh, I'll have to give this one some major thought, but it'd probably be by some bad eighties hair band...actually no...maybe some kind of Creed song...I don't know yet.

I'm thinking of all kinds of songs I despise but wouldn't consider "rock"...such as, "Lean on Me" (absolutely dreadful song).

You're just trying to call me out, aren't you? Phil's songs, while bad, are still entertaining and fun.

I would say "We Built This City on Rock & Roll." That's pretty bad. And "With Arms Wide Open."

I'd say that piece of shit that Fred Durst and that douchebag from Stain'd collaborated on. What was that called? I See Through You? True Colors? Whatever. You know what I'm talking about.

If we were talking about country-related songs, I would say anything that Toby Keith has ever released or the "www." song that Alan Jackson performed. As far as pop, Cher's "Do You Believe In Life After Love" take's my cake. Or maybe the Mockingbird song that Carly Simon sang...

I found a new appreciation for that song when the Luxury Liners did a power-pop cover of it. Outstanding. I believe the title is simply "Believe".

That's ok though, because I think I'm more of a man for not knowing the proper title. Sissy. Nah, I can't say that while Carl is sporting the week-old beard. He can barely go out in public with so many ladies at his feet.

I will start with "The Plantman" by Gary Young....remember the video with Ringo Starr on drums?! Unfortunately I do......

List to follow....so many bad songs that need acknowledgement

With Wild Thing, I'm at the point that too much more overexposure by Oldies 96.3 will cause me to hate it. It's a fun song, but it gets old. There are parts of it that I never have, nor ever will like.

And, I think she means the Troggs version or any in general.

I can't think of "Wild Thing" without thinking of the remake they did for the Swamp Thing cartoon of the early 90s. That was cool stuff...

Already did...it still has the same problem that it does now: it is either a bad rip-off of Led Zeppelin or the Beatles or both. Now it's overly commercial on top of that.

In answer to the question at hand, I enjoy putting collecting the worst gems in history...sort of like when TF used to collect computer visuses.

Anyway, in appreciation of the terrible, the worst songs I have found are

"I Wanna Be Your Man" by Zapp & Roger
and
"Don't Pull Your Love Out on Me Baby" by Hamilton Joe Frank Reynolds

I haven't listened to Bob Seger in about 5 years, but I used to like it. I really don't think it's that bad, there's just better stuff to listen to. And yes, Ramblin Gamblin Man kicks ass. I used to love that song.

Anything that Poison made sucks (I will make an exception for "Talk Dirty To Me"), as goes with most hair-music. I don't like Industrial Metal, or just about any metal for that matter. I think most of this goes without saying.

so yeah, "Like a rock" gets my vote. very close runner up would have to be Nookie by limp bizkit. what a stupid song.

goddamn, this thread is making me giggle. and i agree with all of yous answers.

wild thing is a truly truly shitty song.

american woman gets my vote. although i havent' heard the original in a long time, its got to be the most boring and repetative song ever.

also, ANYTHING by aerosmith. AT ALL. except dream on. i like that song. but only bc it sounds like queen, who also have merit.

we built this city on rock and roll is a TERRIBLE song but i can't vote for it bc it reminds me too much of my childhood and that makes me happy.

and the winner is . . .

"CARRY ON MY WAYWARD SON. THERE WILL BE PEACE WHEN YOU ARE GONE. .. DON'T YOU CRY NO MORE."

2) any rock song that mentions "rock n roll" (INCLUDING God Save...)

There once was a fake commercial on SNL that advertised a CD compilation of "good songs that ruined great artists" including

Rod Stewart - "If You Think I'm Sexy"
Paul McCartney/Michael Jackson - "Ebony & Ivory"
Steve Miller - "Fly Like an Eagle"
and others.

It was really funny.

Nooo, I love that song. It is so excellent. It's on an 8-track compilation that I got the other day. SNL is a bunch of bastards for that. Maybe they should have a segment called "shitty comedians that ruined a great tv show", but I don't think that they'll be airing that 2-hour special anytime soon.
