TOPIC: Fuck the Titans?
Posted  Sunday, January 4, 2004 at 1:07 AM
Post 1 of 63
Maybe no one else cares, but I just have to express how incredibly happy it made me to see Brian Billick, Ray Lewis, and the rest of that tasteless Baltimore Ravens organization lose on their home field in the playoffs. I'm happy that the Titans won, of course, but I'm REALLY happy to see those assholes lose. Even if we don't win another playoff game, this has made the entire season worthwhile. See me in hell, Billick.

I'm with you, dog. I was soooooo happy to see them beat those fuckers. My roomie also was happy, but only because he's a Browns fan. The Ravens have always left a bad taste in a lot of people's mouths. And how awesome was it when Eddie pretty much tackled Ray on that one rush and then started talking smack!?! Classic.

My roommate of four years is from Baltimore. This was a sticky point throughout our time together. I'm glad it can be sticky the other way around for once.

The Ray Lewis / Eddie George dynamic was beautiful. The Kearse / Orlando dynamic even better. George and McNair playing under counditions that would make most humans lose consiousness from pain was a testament to how badly they wanted it.

Superbowl bound? God I hope so.

Well guess where I just got back from; The very evil in which you speak.
I can't begin to tell you how happy I was to exorcize this demon. Billick has gotta be the most arrogant jerk alive and I'm happy the Titans put an end to his season. I also enjoyed the eddie/lewis hit. Perhaps I'll need to change my avatar from 1 yard eddie to something more appropriate.

On the flip side, the Baltimorons were horrible. The police had to literally escort me and my friend down to a group of titans fans they had gathered at the bottom. They told us that once we left the stadium, we were on our own. Man, i wish us nashvillians could be that "friendly".

I think you could definitely make a case that Orlando Brown's temper cost the Ravens the game yesterday. While his first Unsportsmanlike Conduct penalty in the second quarter was pretty inconsequential, the second one near the end of the game was huge. It made the Ravens punt from their own 20 instead of their own 35. This caused the Titans to get the ball at their own 37, instead of their own 22. This gave us a much shorter distance to go to get into field goal range. And as we know, little Gary only made that field goal by about 6 inches... So thanx, Zeus! Have a good offseason with that on your shoulders!

one of the guys I tailgate with bought two tickets off ebay and the person that had planned on going with him couldn't get off work. Anyway, he said if I could pay for my airfare I could have the extra ticket.

I honestly dunno how many more games are winnable now. Indy is killing the broncos and the Pats have looked incredible lately.

The Patriots are really the only team that worries me. They are very damn good. Beating them will not be easy. But if we can (somehow) get past them, I assure you that Peyton Manning and the Colts will fold like the weak bitches they are, and we will be Super Bowl bound.

1. Baltimore Ravens - check
2. New England Patriots
3. Indianapolis Colts

I'll admit that the first one this year was an ass-kicking.

But concerning what happened on December 7, let's be reasonable. I think you can hardly call that a "manhandling." We lost by 2 points, and essentially gave the game away: 3 unforced special teams fumbles, including one with 50 seconds left. To say that we gave the Colts an early Christmas present would be a more accurate description.

Listen, I think Peyton is a great quarterback. But let's face it: he can't win win The Big Game. It was that way in college and it's been that way all through his pro career. Whether it's against the Titans or not, when the AFC title is on the line, he will choke just like he always has.

Maybe I'm being too hard on the guy, and if he proves me wrong this year, I'll admit it. But for me, the best predictor of the future is the past.

A lot of that is the coaches doing. I mean millions of dollars are invested in a quarterback, and for many teams their chance of winning is intertwined with the health of their star quarterback. If he stays reasonably healthy they go to the playoffs, if he blows out a knee, the coach gets fired, ahem Dan Reeves ahem.

I wanted a team besides the titans who I could say I have been a fan since the beggining. The texans was the team for me. I also think that they have potential through the next few seasons. And no I am from Georgia.

my friends and i here in wv theorize that ray lewis, rather than talking trash, threatens to murder players on the opposite side of the ball. "i'ma kill you and drive away," or something along those lines. ray carruth would be even worse, touting both homicide and infanticide.

with that in mind, i say fuck the nfl for criticizing playmakers.

Our favorite thing to say when Ray Lewis is mentioned or shown is, "I'm gonna stab you" or "I'm gonna stab somebody" or "Somebody's gonna get stabbed". It never gets old.

I agree with you on that, Damon.

A few weeks ago, LT said in an interview that back in the day, he used to sometimes smoke crack before games.

On our very own Titans, Albert Haynesworth sucker-punched a practice squad guy, then got into it with Fisher. I've heard an unverified story that in college, after a very similar incident, he left practice and came back carrying a 2x4, looking for a fight.

And we all know that Jeff Garcia is a closet homosexual.

But the NFL says Playmakers is a "gross characterization."

I'm starting to hate the nfl too. Don't get me wrong, I love the Titans, but the "NFL" as a front office is full of way too many people with no sense of humor, excitement, or reality. Playmakers was an awesome show, perhaps is was too dramatic and focused on the bad, but aren't almost all shows nowdays? Besides that, SO what if it is, I don't see the NFL hurting for money. and the fines... They are going overboard on the fines !!! how they justify fining someone for highfives and not fine an entire dancing special teams unit is beyond me. I remember they even once had an excessive crowd noise penalty.

I think the Paul Tagliabu(sp) thing was really more of a suggestion. Playmakers was a huge hit for ESPN and I doubt they'll cancel it just because some rich guy thinks it hurts his organization. I've heard some say that espn is only hurting itself by presenting the NFL in a bad light.... Give me a break, they are only making a show about things in the NFL that were in a bad light to begin with.

well, it would have been only a suggestion if it weren't for gatorade. from what i've heard, gatorade is pulling sponsorship of the show because they don't want to piss of the league - mainly because their deal with the nfl is up for renewal soon.

I don't consider myself very savvy, but I will say:

Titans 10
Patriots 34

I think the Patriots will be fired up, and will jump out to at least a two touchdown lead in the first quarter, and the game will never really be close. Like Joey, I hope I'm wrong. But in Foxboro, in the playoffs? I just don't see it happening.

In other playoff games this weekend, I think that Indy will beat the Chiefs, St. Louis will beat the Panthers, and Philly will beat the Packers.

Yes, I know that the thread title is a bit crass, but it was a reference to a 2000 Brian Billick quote, and well, he's just a crass guy.

I agree completely! they gave it their all, and came up short. no shame in that.

By the way. Kearse was again a "non-factor" I liked him once, but he must think he's god asking for all that $$$.

Tonight was painful... I watched the first half and had to gamecast the second half on espn.com. What set us back 20 yards in the last set of downs? We could have tied it up with a field goal had that not happened... just curious.

Oh well, we've got an amazing team that played admirably and selflessly all season. We just met a better team, and we all seemed to expect this to be the end of the road anyway.

To next season!

Now call me vindictive, but I'm actually glad the Titans lost. Here's why...

Last night I went out to eat with my family and we were at an establishment that has 15 TV's. They were all tuned into the Rams-Panthers game which was a nailbiter. Well near the end of the first overtime during that game, all of the TV's magically turned to the Titans game, which meant I missed the end of the of the other game. Now I can understand the fact that I'm in Tennessee, but leave a couple of the TV's on the 2 overtime game. When I tried to explain this to one of the employees, he blew me off by saying "the Titans game is on."

God fucking forbid anyone miss the first 2 minutes of the Tennessee game, even though noone would have missed any of it. They would have just had to turn their head a different way and look at a different TV. I would have been willing to get up and move for a little while, but I wasn't presented with that option. Instead, I had to wait for ESPN to tell me who won. Bastards.

Why don't you just never go back to that establishment? Jeff Fisher didn't change all of those TVs.

Dropping George would be like benching McNair... there will be a time, but it hasn't come yet.

Kearse is another story.

Kearse should be let go, He isn't worth what he wants and his absence won't make that big of an impact. Lately it seems the other team's QB has had plenty of time to throw the ball anyway, so why pay him a fortune when someone cheaper can do the same?

Eddie needs to take a huge pay cut and I think he will. He already said he'd do whatever to remain a Titan. George isn't near the back he has been in years past but he nearly single handedly took the team to the super bowl in '99. They OWE the starting job to him for at least this next year. That being said. It'd be nice to see much more of Chris Brown next year. Off and on, he's been showing signs of greatness

Is this even an issue? I thought it was already pretty much a done deal that he's gone. I heard Floyd Reese on the radio a couple of months ago talking about all of the great players they would get to keep as opposed to paying Kearse's proposed new salary. It sounded to me that he'd already made up his mind back in October.

I'm not a fan of Football. But seeing as how most of my family has been watching all of the games.. and stuff I could even see that they needed to send Brown in. dry.gif

I'm sorry, but I don't drop Eddie George for at least two more seasons, because he is a damn good blocker. No running back that Tennessee could possibly bring in would be as good of a blocker on passing plays or any other for that matter. Chris Brown will have to learn a little bit from George before I'm willing to hand the reigns over to him. Meanwhile, keep alternating George and Brown in games, because it seems to be helping them both.
