Bush plan's to speak on this issue at 12:15 today on CNN.. I'll be tuned in to see what he has to say.

I've got to say this is the most surprising twist I never saw coming. I thought he would hav been smart and left the country or at least tried to.

Does anyone else feel sorry for Saddam now that we see him all bearded and tired and sickly-looking?

No. He was too much of a coward to follow thru with his suicide that he declared he would do if he were captured.

Yeah, my mom told me about this first thing when I awoke this *afternoon.* He should have left the country, but I believe a more pressing matter would be for whoever turned him in to take his $25 million dollars and get the hell out of dodge.

I also never saw this coming. I honestly thought he was dead. Well, it won't be long.

I've always wondered if he's seen the "South Park" movie.

I was just thinking about that this morning. If he hasn't seen it, they should definitely show it to him in prison. It'll give him a good laugh...maybe.

This is good and all, but it also may be just what Bush needed to get re-elected.

We wasted billions of dollars to destrot their country trying to find the ruler, when all we had to do was look in a hole.

It sucks to hear that the troops are still going to fight in baghdad. I was hoping this would end it but I guess I was wrong

I love how every single report is that we've finally found him--exactly where we expected to find him. USA USA USA! What kind of feel-good propagandist bullshit is that? If our intelligence is so superb, why the hell are all these civilians dead? I'm sorry, but if it takes US forces months upon months to find this guy, no one has the right to be so cocky to say, "Yep, we found you right where we thought you'd be".

Regardless, I'm very happy we have the guy. Let the torture begin!!!

I know- I hate that I can't feel 100% joyful about the news. I mean, it's obviously a good thing that the bastard is not at large, but I hate to think that it could contribute to President Turd's credibility, when the people that deserve any credit are the people who actually dug him out of the hole. And Carl- I totally agree.

It is strange to me that he has gone from this archetype of evil to just another non-white man in a cage.

It would be kind of cool if they make him cell mates with Manuel Noriega. Think of the stories they could share.

To be fair to everyone involved in the "investigation," "manhunt" or whatever, this couldn't have been easy. I agree that they shouldn't be bragging as though they had known all along, but I don't think it is fair to discredit how hard it must have been to find him... not that you were.


Yeah, it is almost laughable (if humor existed in such things) that they are even trying to make this process look like it was clean and simple. Forget that it was clearly dirty and difficult on the micro scale... it has been pretty evident to the entire world that we've not had our act together over there. To try and put this band aid on it and act like there was no difficulty, tragedy, or loss behind it is absurd.

I don't think this will have any impact on the next Presidential election. It's over ten months away, and Americans have a very short memory. The President can ask his father about that one.

The economy will be the only issue in the election. The Democrats' candidate will, of course, try to make Bush's foreign policy shortcomings an issue, but no one will care. If unemployment falls to about 5%, Bush will easily win.

I don't think that Americans will quickly forget about Saddam. His questioning/trial/etc will probably be very long and drawn-out and will, needless to say, receive heavy media coverage. I think that this story will still be very much in the news late in the campaign season.

I don't think that this issue alone will get Bush re-elected, but this combined with any degree of economic recovery (which we are already seeing signs of) most certainly will.

Remember that resturaunt that was a hole in the ground after someone told us that Saddam was eating some lunch there? Think of all the people that died just from that one strike.

Economy Recovers In Time For Christmas Season

Not exactly...this is more than a Christmas boom. New house starts are up, etc.

We don't get to elect our president. That's way there is no point in voting in the presidential elections.
