TOPIC: Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, KS

The other day I opened up the wonderful DNJ to see that a bunch of protestors had been in Smyrna. They were protesting the funeral of a fallen soldier in Iraq. I think big deal, just another war protest right? Wrong, these people drove from Topeka in order to bash gays under the moniker of their "church". First of all I don't think a soldier's funeral is a place to protest war. Let his family mourn. I don't necessarily support the war myself, nor am I homosexual. I am a supporter of free speech, and I do think some anti-hate speech rules/laws go too far. These people however are extemists with too much time on their hands who have obviously been brainwashed by this "preacher" of theirs, and I could only hope that one day he organizes a mass suicide. I have no understanding or sympathy for these types of groups. This is how WW2 was started.
Here is their website for anyone who saw them or has any thoughts on this:
Westboro Baptist Church
And yes, they do claim to be a real church.

I saw that shit. I think they had a Waco-esque episode with the feds/army, and that's why they feel the need to protest the military. Tear gas is a bitch.
We'll miss you Mr. Hooper.

That first page turned my stomach. I did not want to glorify it with a hit in order to go in to the main site and read more.

It just shows that the Bible can be used to back up almost any opinion.

Apparantly this "church" is made up basically of one man and his children & grandchildren and inlaws.

I actually entered the site, and it really does make me sick, and makes me wish I believed in heaven and hell...mostly in hell, mostly for these kind of people.

I like this part:

If I would've known they were going to be in town that day, I would've packed a paintball gun and a few crates of eggs. I doubt the police would show too much sympathy for these people, but who knows sometimes what the cops in Smyrna will do.

What a perfect example of why people hate "church", God, and religion in general. I have no clue as to how they justify what they do, or how they can call themselves Christian. The Bible can go back on forth on several issues, but it's more than obvious that the central theme of Christianity hinges on love. Even if they feel this way about gays, America, and the military, why aren't they out feeding the hungry and clothing the poor. I'm pretty sure that these people could be in for a surprise one day.
