So the Features looked/sounded really sharp for the most part, after such a long break.  There was a good healthy size crowd that was ready to rock.  A clever introduction by an audience member, then GSRnR to open.  What a great, high-energy opener.  From there, it was a typically solid Features show.  Highlights: all of the new songs, Parrish's shaved head, Blow It Out, Circus, Rollum singing, and Harold.  I was so very happy to see Harold return, as it has always been one of my favorites.  It was slightly re-tooled, but still had that incredible bassline after the chorus.  All in all, a heck of a night.  I can't wait to see the Features kick Dancin in the District's ass on July 3...

As I was packing my things earlier on Friday, I said to myself, 'I'll only need one mini disc: when was the last time the Features played more than 80 minutes?'  D'oh.  We missed a bit of the encore.

I fell asleep during the Obscure, a good habit I've developed while watching bad opening acts.  All I need is a chair.  I awoke during the second band, and Jetpack wasn't sucking as much Jetcock as times past, but it still wasn't all that enjoyable.

I thought GSRnR was a high energy opener, and this perhaps one of the best places for it in their set.

I'm keeping an eye on the sets for the shows they'll be playing during the next little bit.  I can't help but think they'll be indicative of what the new album will include.  They played my standard favorites.  I thought Thursday sounded extremely boring even to them until it ended with speed metal.  (Now I'm waiting on the country version).  I could also hear the keys a bit better, perhaps because I was right in front of Parrish.  I really enjoyed the moog part for 'Moonlight', which I never could hear before.

Dancin in the District in 11 days.  Keep your fingers crossed that some tragedy will happen and keep all the skanks and wankers away for a night : )

Random observations from last night:

-Any show that opens with GSRnR and closes with Action is a good show.
-Matt definitely said 'Cattle and Robin Hood' in Buffalo Head.
-Jetpack wasn't bad at all, ya' know, if you aren't one of those people who won't give opening bands a chance.
-With that said, I missed The Obscure.
-Cool new parts added to Harold and Leave It All Behind.
-Harold!
-Serious! (And I believe in an earlier topic, Rollum was blamed for not wanting to play this song. That wasn't the case last night...cough...Parrish...cough.)
-It does seem like they get more and more tired of Thursday at every show.

Fuck Bonaroo.
I TOTALLY AGREE!

I thought it was a really great show.  I, too, enjoyed the speed metal version of 'Thursday.'  I also noticed a couple of other small changes to old favorites that I thought made a nice change of pace.

The show was very, very long.  Twenty-five song sets seem to be normal now.  They're adding new material but not taking out any of the older stuff.  I think it's great!

From my vantage point, the crowd did not look as if it was really into the show.  Some of the songs got them going, but for the most part, the people towards the back were just standing around.  After about eighteen songs, the place really started to clear out... which I had never seen before.

My little helper monkey and I shot some photos during the show.  There aren't any great shots, but I thought some of you might enjoy seeing them anyway.  I posted them at ofoto.com.  To view the pictures, you have to sign up.  If you don't want to (and who would?), you can just use 'tomfoolery@thefeatures.com' as an e-mail address and 'slw' as the password.  The last picture may be of interest to some of you...

I apologize for the fact that ofoto.com begs you to buy prints of the pictures.  Just ignore all of the shameless marketing.

And, what's that password stand for TF?

What a perfect end to my long first week of work. I thought the show was great and stood in a decent spot, considering the amount of people there. ( I actually was standing with the people in that picture, somehow I was left out though). I have always considered encores to start after Thursday ( I know they didn't take a break till one song after) and If i have a perennial encore favorite it's circus. Other songs I always yell for are stagecoach and action. It would have been perfect if they had played the design as well. Dug the new songs, especially the one after 33 1/3. Ditd here we come!

It's a very cryptic message intended for a very select audience on this message board. I'm confident that they will understand its meaning.

SERIOUS!!!!!!!!!
matt def. said cattle and robin hood
rollum was extra cute last night
i was right in front of parrish so i could hear the keys really well and that was way cool
they def. don't like playing thursday
the new songs rule

im pretty sure i was surrounded by people from the board.
i really wanted to ask some people in the front row with me if they are on the board, but i got shy. i did hear someone standing 2 people away from me say 'this is going on the message board' right before they played serious. i really want to know what you kids look like and stuff.
just in case you're wondering, i was wearing a white shirt and i had pigtails and was right in front of parrish.

That was me, referring to Parrish claiming that he didn't remember how to play it (which he proved wrong). I think I know who you are. At one point (after Harold or 2X2?) you said 'that's the best song ever.' Anyway, yes, you were surrounded by message board people, but I'll leave it to you to figure out who was who.

It was an awesome show. They played 25 songs and I was still ready for more. I also saw one of the jetpack guys video taping the Features set. I've got to get my hands on that!

SOS: How did you get in? Did you have to use the ol' fake ID?

mooggirl: Did JetPack buddy tape the whole show or only part of it? He was near me for a while, but then he left. I don't know if he kept taping or not.

hehe, I think I know who you are as well, SoS.

This has got to be getting infuriating for you.

Many thanks to whoever was working the door last night. I'm a very young-looking 18, but they just checked my ID, marked an X on my hand and let me in anyway. Hopefully this means no one else had any problems.

I enjoyed Jetpack (well, the 15 minutes that I saw) and DEFINITELY appreciated the long Features set and the re-appearance of Serious. We need some height restrictions for the front row though. 6 foot tall men, friendly as they might be, do not belong in front of my pygmy self.

I have no idea how much was taped. I just knew that at one point I saw jetpack's lead singer taping the show. I'll send an e-mail to them and ask how much he got. I'll let everyone know my findings.

I wasn't in the picture because I was taking a leak. I always run for the bathroom immediately after the Features leave the stage because I have stood there for the whole set processing numerous drinks, not wanting to lose my spot.

Have any problems with bonnaroo traffic wrangler?

as far as taking leaks...
i have an unusually small bladder so i always have to take two to three pisses during a normal set. i usually have no trouble getting back to my spot. i just use my god given charm.
