A film by Zach Braff of "Scrubs" I love the show, Braff, and Peter Sarsgaard (especially in "Shattered Glass")

Check out a pretty amazing preview here.

Good soundtrack too...Shins, Iron and Wine, etc.

Bill, it was a different time. It was back when we didn't know the Russians were incompetent.

Yeah, I'm really excited about this. It really looks great. And try to watch the original teaser trailer, too...I almost like it better than the new one.

I agree, I would classify her more as pretty. She's to modest to be 'hot', but hasn't the debate over the definition of this word been brought up once before?

You must choose. It is like that movie "Sofie's Choice" only it is Nathan's choice. Do you know that movie, "Sofie's Choice"? It is like that. Only it is this.

to me, she's pretty and therefore hot. they are not interchangable, though, because a girl can be hot without being pretty. i don't really rate that kind of girl...i prefer prettiness--so i think my use of "hot" is fairly self-explanatory...it simply expresses that i fancy the lady in question, more or less. arguing whether she's pretty or hot is rendered meaningless to me, since i only dig pretty girls in the first place. i also don't think modesty really comes into play--hot doesn't mean slutty, does it? i think modesty, in fact, can be very hot...so i think it's all in which perspective you ascribe to.

um... she's hot.

and i really want to see this. from the preview, it looks like a very beautifully shot movie (with some great music). i remember reading the plot is about the main character coming back home for a family member's funeral, i think.

when does it come out?

I thought it looked cool too, but it ended up being really cheesy and preachy. However, the humor in it is great. If the sentimental stuff was on par with the humor it'd be perfect. The "movie" parts of the movie kinda make it uncomfortable to watch, though. Peter Sarsgaard is great in it.
Why would you do that?

I kind of wanted to see it, but the cover art to the soundtrack looks really cheesy and stupid, and that kind of makes me not want to see it. I admit I often judge books (or movies) by their covers.
But what will happen to the boy when the circus comes to town?

I agree, the original teaser did not fit the poster at all. I did see it, however, and thought it was pretty good. Lots of big laughs, dark/subtle humor, and great non-verbal communication.

i don't feel like giving a proper critique but i'll write a few blurbs...

First of all, Natalie Portman is definitely NOT hott in this movie. You guys can have her.

I like where the script came from, but I don't think it was completely realized. In other words, I think the picture, up until the last 15 minutes, was pretty good. Definitely funny. I think that is the film that Braff had in him. Then he got all mopey-dopey on us and it turned into a fucking weepy chick flick in thrift store clothes.

It just seems that the ending doesn't match what he was trying to do in the preceeding 90 minutes. Its almost as if he was trying to stay witty and unique while being heartfelt throughout the whole movie, but the challenge got the best of him and he lost at the last second. Which makes one wonder if this (the sappyness) was the artist's true intention, or the result of a great script just not having enough tricks to cover up a so-so story. I think the reality is somewhere in between.

I think the actors did a pretty good job with the script. Sarsgaard stands out. Everything was really well timed inside the scenes. On the other hand I got sick of all the fucking close-ups of Braff's (and everyone else's) face after about 5 minutes. Dude needs to learn how to use a goddamn master shot. The hardware store, for example, looked like a really interesting and fairly unusual locale. However all we got to see of it was the 2 feet to the sides of the actors. Same thing with the quarry. All we get is some cheesy digital fly by?? I got no feel for the magnitude of this amazing quarry they were going on and on about.

Don't get me wrong, the picture is better than most of what is out there, but I instinctively judge every movie I see against the best of all time. Nevertheless, I still think Braff has some great work ahead of him, and I'll look forward with a fair amount of interest to his next film. Hopefully he'll cut most of the bullshit.

I agree 100%. I was pretty disappointed by the ending.

so i finally got to see it... and... yeah. my exact thoughts (although everyone was with said i was a sourpuss).

everything up til the scene with his dad was great. after that it just... turned into a different (crappy) movie.
