TOPIC: Dancin' in the District

Well, DitD is the next show up, and like YaDaDaDa said in the review section, we have 11 days until we get to see them again.
I know that the DitD topic was quite long about a month ago, so I was wondering what our plans really were. Are there plans? Are we going to meet up and do something afterwards? Are we going to get together so we can all watch this great band together? I am definitely in for this one, and nothing/no one (work, family, or friends) will keep me away this time.
And yet another question is this: Who is going, and what are we doing (if anything)? I am game for just about anything.
I must also say that I share the same hope that YaDaDaDa mentioned in the Review Section: I hope the skanks stay away this time. From what I have heard from you all, DitD is a magnet for such people. Either way, The Features will rock, I am sure. I just hope that some of you all will be there with me to enjoy it.

Then there's just going to be a handful of people there. I don't know how big the headlining band is, but I think there will be few people other than the board people and their friends. So probably not many skanks. Where are we going to meet? And could someone bring me some Bi-Lo gummy bears? I'll pay you back.

I'm game for hanging out/drinking afterward. I do plan to leave as soon as the Features finish as I have no desire to hear any of the other crap.

OK.  Here's my modest proposal for Dancin' in the District:

We can get together at the show for a 'meet and greet.'  I think we're all starting to figure out who other people are now... so why not make it official?  Hopefully, our combined super powers  will create a 'Wall of Relevance' that will repel any skanks and allow us to enjoy the show.

A very good friend of mine went to DitD a few weeks ago.  He said that even if we all wore similar shirts (which was proposed at one time), we would have a hard time locating each other.  He said a group at that show had a banner which made them easy to spot.  I have access to a nice plotter so I could make a fairly large 'thefeatures.com' banner to help everyone find their way.

If we wanted, we could also make nametags.  We could either use the standard 'Hello! My name is ____' type, or everyone could make their own tags and be as elaborate as they want.  I don't have strong feelings about this part... so I'll be anxious to hear your feedback.

After the Features play, we could move the party to Jillian's at Opry Mills.  We could eat, drink, and play games.  We could even bowl as deevol and blightman suggested in May.

So... there it is.  What does every one think?  Is it time for us to finally all meet in person?  And, if so, do we want to hang out afterwards?

Jillian's would be fun, always is. Tom, I am interested in your plotter access as I would like to print some of my own posters. I still am allowed to use the UT architecture school facilites but that is a long way to go for a few bucks off.

TF, nice proposals. I am going to be with you (as you already know, of course), so I am game for whatever everyone else wants to do. I would love to hang out with you all...that is for sure. So, I hope that as many people as possible can make it. I am anxious to meet everyone from this board that I can.

Picture Ed McMahon (played by Phil Hartman) in that SNL skit of the Tonight Show, saying, 'Yes!'

This sounds like a great plan, TF.  I couldn't have designed it better myself.  I will make a nametag.  I will look for the 'thefeatures.com' banner (in front of Parrish? [plug]).  I will get to meet and greet.  I will get rocked by the Features.  I will have so so much fun and spend so so much money at Jillian's (GOOD call, TF!), especially at the drum simulator and the 18-Wheeler game, while drinking many, many of those blue drinks (look out!). I make a motion that we vote to approve this plan.

It is 21+ after 10pm. Why don't we take stock of how many under 21 are planning on attending this shindig, and if it's a significant number, then we change locations, if not, Jillian's it is. Underage attenders, make yourselves known at this time...

Okay, well, let's just move it to a bowling alley, then.  The only thing that we might run into at a bowling alley is that weeknights are often league nights, and a bowling alley might *close* at 10 on a weeknight.  But we could do some homework and find out...

Anyway, is everyone in favor of the nametags'n'banner method of meeting up at DitD?

It crossed my mind that everyone could buy white t-shirts (or i guess any color t-shirt) and decorate them with assorted permanent markers. Its pretty cheap and allows for a pretty big easel for you creative types to go nuts.

Oh, and if everyone is down for Jillian's, I'm willing to take StephanieW out and entertain her.

I'm thrilled that everyone is so excited about this.  I've been looking forward to meeting everyone for some time.  Now we'll have a good reason to do it.

I was going to suggest that we meet in front of Parrish and establish it as the official home of the message board.  However, I'll probably be there before the band sets up... so I won't know where he'll be.  We can meet up front, on the left side of the stage since that's where he usually sets up.

After the show, we can go to a bowling alley instead of Jillian's.  The Donelson Plaza Bowling center isn't too far.  It's open 24-hours a day, and it has 24 lanes.  I asked if they had league play that night, but the lady on the phone didn't know.  However, she said that if they did, they would still have room for us.

Will this work for us?  Is Donelson too far?  Would you rather look for another place?  I've never been there so I can't really comment on the facilities.

All things being equal, Parrish sets up stage right (left if you're looking at the stage).  We'll meet there.

Donelson Bowl sounds great.  It's not too far off of I-40, and it's never too busy.  Thanks for doing the legwork, TF.

So you've been there before? Will it be difficult for the out-of-towners to find it?

And I'm happy to do the leg work. Some people have expressed skepticism about actually pulling this off. But since we're all resourceful adults, I don't see why we can't.

Not too hard to find. You just take the exit on I-40 that's right after the airport exit. It's called 'Donelson Pike/Air Cargo', but the number escapes me. You take the second half of the exit (going away from the airport), stay on that road (Donelson Pike) for a couple of miles, and the bowling alley is on your right.

You'll recognize me by my ruggedly handsome looks. No nametag necessary.
I TOTALLY AGREE!

Keith, you are destined to rock. Never forget this.

Ahh. Now I understand. Must be nice to stand out like that.
I will have one on for sure, since you all would probably walk right past me and never have a clue if I didn't.

So now we have, for bowling:
Tom Foolery
StephanieW

Due to the overwhelming numbers expressing interest in the bowling, perhaps it should be cancelled.
Relevant: Prince, PT Anderson, Punk, Post-Punk, Purple, Party of Five, Peter Swanson, Peter Gabriel-led Genesis, "Peter Panic", Paul's Boutique, Potential Energy, Every Features MB member but me.

Yes, if that many people do have other plans, maybe we could get together at another Features event or something. I understand that it is the 4th of July and all that the day after. If we don't get to, I say we take a raincheck.

Did y'all hear? They changed the line up. They took out 2 Skinny J's and put in Stroke 9 and Drive-By Truckers. Stroke 9's pretty cool, but I've never heard of Drive-By Truckers.
